  1. Under no circumstances should we consider last year a wash. Literally every other program had to deal with COVID. That was not a unique circumstance to us. With as much talent as we have had on the roster, there is absolutely no reason a competent coaching staff should be anywhere near as bad as we currently are. I absolutely understand that this was a top-to-bottom rebuild of the entire program, but to be making the same terrible mistakes we are making now is 100% on the coaching staff. Frost is lost. You can't run an AAC style all offense all the time type of team in the B1G. He has adapted, but his adaptations have not panned out in the W/L column. I see progress, too! We aren't getting obliterated by better teams anymore, but we also can't beat freaking Illinois. Baffling to say the least.
  2. The bulk of the offensive staff needs to go, minimally Verduzco and Austin. You can make the argument for Held if you can get a good recruiter to replace him. I know lots of folks aren't high on Lubick but the changes we've seen since he's been here scheme-wise have been great. I'd be on board either way with him. Bottom line we need a dedicated ST guy and need to break the bank when it comes to the rest of the replacements.
  3. Frost and Alberts have meetings every Sunday according to them. Trev has to be saying: "Dude you gotta give me SOMETHING here." I want Frost to be the guys so much, but it just seems like he is in over his head. Very sad times. We can discuss the likelihood of these all day, but if you're Trev you have to make them say no: Chris Petersen and Bob Stoops. Once they say no, I would go hard after Fickell, Campbell, and Clawson at WF. Clawson has been doing great things in a perennial bottom feeder program. I'm also very intrigued by Lanning at UGA and Freeman at ND. Both midwest guys who can seemingly recruit their tails off.
  4. There are far better games available that weekend with a higher draw. If we had won just 50% of the games we should have this year then I would think this would be a lock, but man I just don't see it.
  5. Pretty much my take. I don't think it's very likely for us to land any of the folks I mentioned, but if you're Trev you absolutely need to see if you have a shot at them. If by some miracle you do, Frost needs to go this year. If you don't, I think he gets another year.
  6. If we played like we did against the Gophers then we aren't winning any more this year. Really depends on which team shows up. Purdue demonstrated they aren't a doormat. Wiscy is down but what's Frost's record on the road? tOSU will do what tOSU usually does to us. Iowa will control the time of possession the entire game and win by 3 as they usually do. If we play like we did against Michigan in the 2nd half I like our chances to win out. That's not going to happen, though.
  7. I want Frost to win so badly. Can't make a real judgement call until the end of the season, but history shows us we're very likely not going bowling. Realistically, barring catastrophe, I think he's back next year. My Realistic Take: Fire Verduzco, Held, and Austin. Maybe Lubick as well. Revitalize the offensive side of the ball and make sure Frost isn't calling plays anymore. He clearly needs to focus on all phases of the game. Go out there and get the absolute best offensive assistants money can buy with a huge emphasis on OL. This is basically the Solich treatment. My Less Realistic Take: I don't envy Trev Alberts, but if I am Trev I am only making a decision if I have my homerun hire in the bag. Who would be a homerun hire at this point? Bob Stoops Chris Petersen Urban Myer Those are really the only absolute homeruns I can think of. I don't care for Urban, but you can't discount his success. We can discuss the reality of either of them coming here all we want, but bottom line is you have to at least put out the feelers and see if there's any possible interest and you likely need to do that now. If either of them bite, Frost gets his pink slip and we move on. If neither of your homeruns bite, then Frost gets another year and if he wins we're golden. If he doesn't, you have more financial freedom.
  8. So far the only demonstrable identity a Frost team has demonstrated is playing just below the opponent; regardless of who said opponent is. Top 10 team? Down to the wire. Middling Minnesota team? Doesn't matter - we'll play just below the opponent. I don't envy Trev Alberts right now. With that said, if I'm Trev the only way you move on from Frost is if you have your homerun hire in the bag. Someone like a Bob Stoops. Other than that, give him another year to lessen the buyout and if he really turns things around you're golden. If he doesn't, you have a bit more financial freedom.
  9. I live in Central Texas and there are 3 other Husker families in my neighborhood. We truly have a national fanbase.
  10. We win 1997-0 running only I-formation power run and a little option sprinkled in. Realistically I'm here, though I think we can keep it within 3. A few bounces go our way and we could head into Sunday with a signature win. -Rahmir should start at RB. -I voted Husker ST, though I do believe offense is equally important. -Michigan by 3, though I hope I'm wrong and we make a huge turn this week.
  11. Oh don't get me wrong Iowa has bad corn and terrible drivers. From a football vantage point it's a giant meh from me and not much more.
  12. I really don't understand why all the hate for Iowa all of the sudden. I get their fanbase is annoying and maybe I'm just slightly older than some who harbor that hate, but Iowa really doesn't mean a whole lot to me. If you respect fundamental football, you should have a healthy respect for what Ferentz has been able to do over there. Outside of that, meh.
  13. Bring Solich back and have him execute brunette Herbie in front of 90k at a sold out Memorial Stadium. Immediately after said execution, blonde overalls Herbie makes his glorious return. There, Trev. I just won the natty for you.
  14. I live in central Texas and there are 3 other houses in my neighborhood that have Nebraska flags. They get a big fat Go Big Red! from me every time I see them.
  15. I want Frost to win so badly. Just imagine an alternate universe where our special teams and o-line play are simply 20% better than they are right now. There's a great chance we are 5-0 and in the top 15. This team has so much potential and it is held back 100% by coaching. People can say that the coach doesn't teach a player to throw the QB down after the whistle is blown, or to miff punts, or miff punt returns, or generally sniff glue on the special teams phase of the game. My counter is that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. We've been down this road for the last 4 years. These are year 1 and early year 2 mistakes that are STILL happening. Don't give me the COVID excuse. Look at Sam Pittman in Arkansas. Frost has no answers. I have no idea what to expect from Trev, but I certainly don't think it's coddling. While Osborne had a calm, straight-laced demeanor, those boys who played for him were not exactly nice. If the axe needs swinging my guess is he won't have problems doing it. Realistically I do think that Frost gets the Solich treatment. He needs to reboot his offensive staff almost entirely. Everyone on defense should stay and get a raise.
  16. The only possible pathway to a respectable game (note: not a victory; a respectable game) is if OU makes an incredible amount of mistakes. Realistically, we will not be able to establish a rhythm in the run game, will continue to have a special teams unit that is sniffing glue in the corner, and our reasonably decent defense will not hold a candle to OU's elite offense. 52-17 OU.
  17. I'm in my mid 30's and one of my favorite Husker memories is black 41 flash reverse.
  18. Very much agreed - I think the hiring of Mike Riley was more of a symptom of our systemic woes than the cause. What we saw last week has absolutely nothing to do with Riley.
  19. Should be a telling night tonight. I don't think Goldie can keep up but stranger things have happened. When we play tOSU they are going to run the ball 60 times and still beat us by 40.
  20. Maybe my scope of view of the Bo situation was skewed a bit, but I remember the overwhelming majority of fans were glad he was gone. Firing Bo wasn't the wrong decision - hiring Mike Riley was. Would I take Bo back right now? Nope. He's proven how much of a commodity he is in modern day. Nearly got ran out of his FCS gig and absolutely got ran out after one year of his P5 coordinator gig. The game has passed him by and he's proven he refuses to adapt. Re: lines out of asscracks. I'm pretty sure we'd all line up our own asscracks for the HC to do lines out of if he's winning national championships.
  21. We have to give Bert some credit. He outcoached us. We have better recruiting classes (therefore better athletes), more consistency in coaching tenure, better facilities, better just about everything. Bert ran a simple yet effective offense, physical defense, and managed the clock better than Frost could ever dream of. I know the season is still young, but I see absolutely nothing positive about last week's performance. The only "positives" I hear are drowned out by: "Not good enough to beat Week 0 Illinois with a brand new coaching staff." Oh, the defense looked much more physical! They held the opposing team to only 21 points and finally got some pressure! Not good enough to beat Week 0 Illinois with a brand new coaching staff. Minimized penalties on the offense! Not good enough to beat Week 0 Illinois with a brand new coaching staff. Only one high snap! Not good enough to beat Week 0 Illinois with a brand new coaching staff. The team didn't quit! Not good enough to beat Week 0 Illinois with a brand new coaching staff. I can't get excited for any game the rest of this year! I hope I'm wrong. I hope I eat crow, but I just don't see any room for optimism right now. The problem is, like the addict we all are, I will be there week in and week out to cheer the team on. Nebraska should look into endorsement deals with heartburn medication. I am no gastroenterologist, but I feel like there is nothing more heartburn-inducing than Nebraska football.
  22. Best case scenario for us is extremely unlikely, but that's Frost finds some way to pull his head out of his a$$ and learns how to be a P5 coach and ends with a bowl bid... Realistically if I were Trev here's what I'd do: -Put as much money as I can possibly find in a dump truck and personally drive it to Matt Campbell's house. Continue to dump trucks worth of cash in his lawn until he says yes. -Repeat that with Fickell but maybe not quite as many dump trucks. Worthy options for us: Jamey Chadwell Billy Napier Kalen DeBoer Justin Wilcox Jim Leonhard
  23. Good thing we're disciplined enough to do that and not... *checks notes*... -Having our best player field a punt inside the 1 resulting in a safety. -Former B1G kicker of the year missing 2 PATs -Having the first 3-time captain in NU history miss wide open receivers and continue to turn the ball over for points in critical parts of the game. -Establish absolutely 0 run game whatsoever. -Have a game-changing interception turned over with 30 yards of unnecessary penalties.
  24. I can't decide if my eyes are stuck from rolling them too hard or if I just don't want to look at this dumpster fire anymore.
