  1. That was back before Frost started 10-17 in 3 years. There is still hope but I am starting to get concerned about things moving forward if this season ends with another losing record. Can't hang your hat in recruiting on 13-0 anymore.
  2. They already know the QB draw is coming. Not going to lie, I've watched a couple Iowa games and they'll win by 20 if we roll out the offense we just saw. We might not get 150 yards, their D is legit.
  3. I believe what you're thinking about is the under center play action, back turned to the defense. That isn't really a thing when you are in shotgun all the time. You have RPO and the QB can fake a handoff for a keeper but it will never have the same effect if you can't hide the ball with your back turned.
  4. Luke is an upgrade over the current AM yes but it's clear they don't trust him to throw over 10 down the middle or down the sidelines. Penn State was able to creep up and get consistent pressure because of that. For this offense to be good you need those throws and they needed a good Martinez to do so. That didn't happen and we will continue to be pretty mediocre until they figure that out. The people drawing sides of coach/playcalling versus QB are making it too binary. Both problems feed into each other creating what we have. The first scripted drive goes very well because they practice it over and over I bet. After that things are very average.
  5. The only reason there was a lead was PSU mistakes. They haven't done anything on offense after the first scripted drive.

  7. I'm ready for some precedented times.
  8. Have been rehashing all other issues with my college buddies and avoiding QB. One buddy keeps circling back to it and I said I don't want to think about that because that's the one problem that will continue to keep the whole team down. So don't talk about it alright?! Luke could be the answer.....but what if he stinks too when given the full reigns and not just set packages? What if we get all these talented WR on the field and we stink still? (Shivers)
  9. My wife is a nurse, and a good friend is an ER doc in Omaha. While I, and they do as well, fully agree with you that folks are recovering/treatment is so much improved but that still isn't the point right now. The point is not overwhelming the hospital systems and preventing access to beds and treatments for folks with other issues. My wife's hospital is already back to April Covid bed use and they are having to stop most surgeries because they don't have enough beds. They will still do life threatening ones of course but other things get put off. Things like chemotherapy become much more difficult and dangerous in an overflowing hospital for immunocompromised people. If this was just a normal yearly issue at normal levels I would totally agree, let it run it's course like the flu. But when it overwhelms the whole system it causes trickle down issues. The doctors and nurses are more than burnt out by this point as well. This is also about doing our part for those people.
  10. I was gonna make a joke about the rest of us having to watch a funeral also, but I stopped myself. My condolences.
  11. I don't really care if we are or aren't, just wanted to post that.
  12. What do we stand to lose is a great question. A lot of posters have brought up very good points about why certain guys are still playing, knowing the playbook better/blocking etc. I see the points but I also see this: 1-7 in the last 8 games. If we are going to lose the game with the less talented more seasoned kids who might screw up less, what else are we really going to lose by putting younger, more talented kids for more snaps to get them experience and maybe have them make some plays? The game? A couple more TDs? Because we're already doing that right now.
  13. Most of us can see that and it's reason for confidence but it NEVER seems to happen. Ready to turn a corner! That corner hasn't been turned this millennium. So true. I agree with both of you that one big victory might do it but man they've come up short for such a long time.
  14. PSU 56 NU 17 Rushing 148 Passing 89 Hoping I'm wrong! 200 yards passing seems insane. I'll keep making these predictions until they prove me wrong. (I am really just mad that I predicted a big win last week and they failed spectacularly).
  15. Catching them at 0-3 will be a really good thing or a really bad thing.
  16. I wonder the same thing. Are they doing too much tinkering and creating the slow reactions by making them think too much? At some point this is just football, not everyone can be Peyton Manning.
  17. One of those guys is an All American, let's calm it down here. Campbell also hasn't beaten Iowa either.
  18. Oh I fully agree, but right now I am in the weekly 7 stages of grief and the asterisk is helping me along this year. I'll be thinking we can win again this week by Thursday.
  19. I've done my venting for the week. This year has an asterisk next to it anyway, free eligibility, so let's get kids experience and see what we've got in 21. That will 100% tell us where things stand if by then we still aren't showing significant progress. We looked improved versus a far superior opponent whom the kids were excited to play, and looked worse versus a solid/smart opponent we could have beaten where the excitement was less. Let's see how they respond this week at home. If they put up a decent performance and show some resolve there is still hope for a winning record this year and momentum.
  20. This just isn't true in year 3. We don't have enough to beat Ohio State sure, but have plenty to have a winning record. And guess what, if they have a 3rd straight losing record we won't be getting many more of 'those guys' signing up to come here.
