***Official Wisconsin Game Discussion Thread***
Packerhuskerfan replied to knapplc's topic in Husker Football
Too many short kickoffs this year. We need one strong leg on this team. -
This is a Gary Barta type move. If Nebraska is still having losing seasons with a year left on Moos' contract, we better can Moos fast or we will end up with a 20 year Frost contract.

ESPN: Is Nebraska football too far gone, even for Scott Frost?

This article was going to come out around this time regardless of the record. She was working on it for awhile. It just has a more negative tone since Nebraska is failing this year. -

If Frost can't do it, we need to go the Wisconsin route (or old Nebraska route). It might not be Florida Fast, but it will get us 7 to 9 wins on a regular basis as long as we can get a coach that can coach up players. Bottomline: I think a mid major coach that adopts a more black & blue Big 10 style could have success here. -
Better coaching and we are sitting at 6 or 7 wins right now.

I hope Frost learns to adjust. Frost really needs a new D coordinator next season and shouldn't be afraid to bench an underperforming QB.

Nebraska will beat Maryland and Iowa in '19
Packerhuskerfan replied to BoNeyard's topic in Husker Football
Taylor got 250 against Iowa. He'll probably at least have that against us unless he is pulled before the 4th quarter since they are up by so much. Illinois getting to a bowl game shows what happens when you handle adversity properly like losing to a poor teams like Nebraska. -
You had me until the last 2 sentences. I'd still rather have Frost than Riley even if he ends up being ultimately a failure, too.
-
I think our RB group is good enough this year. If anything, they have been misused or not used at times. Stanley was a 50/50 jump baller who commanded respect, so also got Speilman open in return. We are definitely hurting not have a 1-2 WR combo. It sucks seeing Martinez overthrow our short receivers constantly, but he also misfires to our tall TEs and doesn't see players streaking wide open.
-
He'll get 4 years at least. Too much money invested. Also, with nice guy Riley getting canned after just 3 years and Pelini and Solich getting canned after 9 win seasons, the admin knows they can't fire one of their past great players after 3 years without taking a hit from national media and coaching prospects.

Iowa is going to kick our butts which really sucks living in Iowa. The local media really loves Nebraska's struggles. One station did a poll this week on which was more of a train wreck, Nebraska football or Nebraska basketball. -
I'd take a healthy Armstrong over this year's healthy and injured versions of Martinez.
-
The Hawkeyes recruiting classes constantly rank lower than ours, but they have developed a lot of NFL players. Better coaching would make a huge difference. We would already be bowl eligible if we beat the teams we have more talent than.
-
We are not going to have a good defense with Chin and his crew around, so it will be up to the offense to make the most of their opportunities. 2 blocked punts and two turnovers should be way more than 3 points. A game like the Northwestern game will be few and far between. We can't win a lot of games ugly like a team with a great defense like Iowa can. Their offense can sleepwalk most games against mid to lower level teams. Most weeks we will have to score a lot of points and not have ugly turnovers, so 1 or 2 good quarters on offense is not enough. Martinez should ride the pine for at least a game. Vedral would gave won us the Purdue game. If Vedral or McCaffrey panick when seeing our defense get killed by Wisconsin or Iowa, he will probably get the job back soon enough or in the early offseason if he isn't fragile and transfers. Martinez is missing too many open players. While he could benefit from someone like a Stanley Morgan Jr, he is still over throwing our tall players as well. Martinez also is not taking off and running when he has sure fire 1st downs. Hopefully, it isn't because of the QB coach being more concerned about turning him into an NFL QB over winning games. Sometimes, I wonder if he tinkered too much with Martinez in the offseason.
-
We don't have remotely the same talent level of Ohio State.
-
UCF fans were happy to see Frost take Chin with him. Frost needs to get a new DC in the off season and have open competition at the QB spot. Also, until Frost is willing to adopt to the Big 10 style of play, it will be tough going.
-
They aren't just ok.
-
Are we mediocre? I would say we are a bottom feeder this season.
-
Scott Frost is stubborn. Teams watch UCF footage to beat us on defense. Martinez should not start. Our recruiting will probably take a hit after this poor season.

How bout we see Vederal 2nd half?
Packerhuskerfan replied to rdwoodpecker's topic in Husker Football
Not worst, but not top half yet. Vedral should have put in at half. -

We need to trust Pickering more to make kicks. Even if he misses, he seems more reliable than Martinez.
