  1. As I sat right behind the sideline, watching and listening (when the crowd was quiet enough) to the coaching staff making adjustments, the thing that caught my attention was how often the coaches would come over and say the same freaking thing. Watch for this, call out the Mike, watch for this look, watch for this shift. These are young and inexperienced players. They are definitely trying to learn. They just need to do it when they’re winning too. The focus wasn’t the same for a few of them when they were dancing on the sideline up 17-0. That being said, most do really care. Cam Taylor-Britt was so upset he missed the read for the flea flicker that he was ready to throw the bench. He was also so pissed that he gave all he had left to catch Shenault and strip the ball from him the very next time he was on the field. They have the drive to learn and to improve. We’re in a weird place right now, but I expect this year to be a lot like last year. Every game they’ll get a little better. Honestly, the only game I’m worried about setting us back is the Ohio State game. Those kids can’t suffer a big loss (+21 points). There is a decent chance we’re competitive in that game as well, but I’m worried about a blowout at this point. We aren’t ready for competition at that level at this point this season. Every other game I think we will have a shot in the 4th quarter to win. It’s going to be an exciting and stressful year. Buckle your chinstraps gents. A major vote of confidence: Urban Meyer has had some pretty interesting thoughts on this Huskers team. He still seems to think they can make a run at the B1G championship and is 100% confident in our coaching staff. He said this may be a year early still, but they are much improved from his previous years coaching against them. He talked about how much better they are on defense already. As much as I kind of hate that guy, I respect his knowledge of football. He knows more than the rest of us collectively on the HuskerBoard. We’ve got the right people, we just need to let them work their magic.
  2. This is the dumbest comment I’ve seen on this thread. This team looked incredible in the first half. Better than any team we’ve had in years. There was a major mental collapse to begin the third; some older players dancing, joking around. I was 5 feet from them the entire game. There are still cultural problems created during the worst coaching hire in history (Mike Riley). This stuff takes time. Frost is still considered by all in the media, with way more credibility than you or any other nay sayers on this board, as one of the top 20 best coaches in college football. Get off the bus if you’re not willing to take the full ride to success town. Anyone else agreeing with this idiotic take above can get the hell off the bus too. Go be a CU fan, sounds like you’d fit right in.
  3. Scott is a top coach. There is a major culture change underway. He’s working with a fragile team. The newer players played hard the entire game. The older ones didn’t. I was 5 feet away from them on the sideline yesterday (see the last couple pages on the game thread where I cover this.) Their are still some hold outs from the culture change and it’s obvious. He had some bad play calls, no doubt, but he’s our guy and the best coach we could ever hope to get.
  4. I hope we do get them. You should see those guys up close compared to the other players. The new guys being brought in are HUGE in height. It will be interesting to see how they bulk up. Reps would be good for them though.
  5. We sat right behind the bench and watched the demeanor of the team the whole game. Here’s what I saw on the sideline: - The focus at the start was perfect. Guys looked great. - Mo Berry was exhausted after the first defensive series. He rarely sat with the rest of the defense. He seemed off. - When Huskers got up 17, multiple guys lost focus. Guys dancing on the sideline, guys telling jokes. Older guys effecting newer guys on both offense and defense alike. - When they came out in the third quarter, most of the DBs were laughing and joking with some guy walking in stands behind bench that knew them well apparently. A bunch of non-game related b/s. Major distraction from the game as the offense was on the field. - More dancing and messing around during timeouts. Especially RBs and DBs. - Start of 4th QTR, defense comes off field complaining of holding after longest play in CU history. DBs looked defeated. - After Huskers score, a lot of relief on their faces more than anything. Acted like they were surprised. - Adrian constantly coming off field frustrated and looking like he was at a loss. - Oline looked gassed after first few series and never seemed to recover. - The coaching staff was all over the place in the 4th. Not organized, coaches running around looking for players, and not huddling with groups as frequently as the first half. The good news: - The younger guys we’ve picked up this last year are way bigger than some of the current juniors/seniors. They just look different. - JoJo Domann, Lee Jr., Garrett Nelson, Ben Stille, Sullivan, Daniels Brothers all focused all the time. - The QBs group was always focused, always trying to learn and talk to teammates. 4 great young men right there! - no pi$$ balloons were thrown our way.
  6. Prices dropping more and more as the morning goes on. Get your cheeks in the seats! Let’s make this an additional home game. GBR!
  7. I live in Windsor, CO. It’s a town of about 24k off the east side of the interstate just south of Fort Collins and due west of Greeley. Last night I stopped to get Mexican food and there were 4 cars with NEB plates in the parking lot. As I walked in, there was a couple from Beatrice standing in line to pick up their order for carry out. I was doing the same. I asked if they had family in town and they said “No, it’s the first place we called that didn’t have a 2 hour wait and could keep up with pickup orders.” They also said there were so many cars on I-76 heading south with Nebraska plates that they were convinced we just created another “home game”. Gents, we’re 50 minutes from Boulder. I personally haven’t seen an event that’s caused folks to come out our way due to an influx of people. The estimate I read said 10k fans got tickets. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hit the 25k mark in the stadium today. There are posts all over Twitter of Huskers fans overrunning bars from Denver to Fort Collins. Ticket prices are also falling because CU fans “don’t want to deal with Huskers fans” according to the guy who sold my buddy tickets online last night. This is going to be awesome!
  8. THAT’S AWESOME! IS IT A BOAT WITH A FLEX SEALED SCREEN DOOR FOR THE BOTTOM? BECAUSE, THAT WOULD BE COOL! I’LL HAVE TO SWING BY AND GET SOME.
  9. DID I MISS SOMETHING EXCITING? DID I MISS A BILLY MAYS SIGHTING? I KNEW HE WASN’T DEAD... I’VE BEEN SAYING THAT SINCE THE DAY HE DIED. HE’S STILL HERE. HE’S HANGIN’ WITH US RIGHT HERE IN THE HB. I WONDER IF HE BROUGHT SOME FLEX SEAL, THAT WOULD BE COOL. ANYWAY, HAVE A SPLENDID WEDNESDAY EVERYONE.
  10. I’ve lived in Colorado for the majority of my life. I’ve also lived for 4 years in Nebraska (high school during the 90s when I found my love for college football, Thanks Nebraska!), 4 years in Texas (military), and 10 in Utah (post military job working for department of the army) before moving back to Colorado. Just like most places in the world, the vast majority of people are good people in Colorado. The majority of buffs fans are good people, but there are a few sCUm bags. You see it in the fans of all sports teams. However, I see it much more with CU, Kansas and Texas fans than I ever did with Nebraska fans. Granted, my cousin (from Missouri) got his car keyed in Lincoln when he came for a Huskers/Mizzou game in 2008. There is a chance you’ll get your car keyed. There is a chance that someone might slash your tires. There is a chance that you’ll get a broken window... but they are extremely small. This stuff happens everywhere. However, the stories in here claiming that people in Boulder wouldn’t help them, or “tire stores wouldn’t fix their tires because they are from Nebraska” are total horse crap. Most of the people that own businesses in Boulder aren’t even from Colorado and have literally zero stake in this “rivalry”. Some of these claims are so fictional, it’s just ridiculous. They tell the same lies in Colorado about Nebraska fans, just so you know. It’s just as ridiculous. Just remember that a small portion of their fans think, because of Lawerence Phillips, everyone in Nebraska is okay with beating up women. “It’s just got to be part of their culture.” I’ve heard it from a couple ignorant people before. Don’t be the ignorant Nebraska fan.
  11. Thank you for being so forward. We all have made some bad choices in life. Those bad choices may have resulted in formal or informal discipline, but they don’t define who we are as a person. They may be part of our story, our evolution/growth, but they do not define us. @I am I, I can tell you’re a good person from the simple fact that you felt shame from the couple actions you took that were mistakes and you’re willing to take ownership of them. I’m sure Maurice feels shame from his mistake too. The coaching staff and the administration both see that side of Maurice. It’s a side we’ll never see unless we have the opportunity to meet him. We don’t get to see the fact that he’s a good son, a good nephew, a good neighbor, or a teammate. One day he will probably be a good dad, a good spouse, a good patriarch of his family who helps his grand children work through their own mistakes and take ownership of them to resolve them... the same way we all will. That being said, repeated behaviors that go unaddressed due to a lack of remorse or conscience... that will define you. Maurice is far from that pattern of behavior. Has he done some selfish things? Yes. Did all of those things cause emotional distress for someone else and he continued to overlook and commit those types of mistakes? No. @huskerfan22, you’re not Maurice’s judge and jury now, and you’re sure as hell not the all seeing eye of his life. You can predict his behavior and prejudge him all you want, but you don’t get to define him, or anyone else for that matter. He does not have a pattern of behavior that indicates he is a sociopath. On the other hand, I hope you realize that your prejudgement can cause emotional distress for others as well when it is made public. Hopefully prejudgement isn’t a pattern of behavior for you and those in your life. If it has. been, I hope you feel some remorse from that pattern. If not, that would be unfortunate, and borderline sociopathic. I’ll let you be your own judge.
  12. I’ll answer that one. 49-17 Nebraska - Half the stadium in red. I’ll be there and can’t freaking wait to watch this massacre. It will be 35-7 at the half. CU fans will leave at the end of the 3rd qtr, and we’ll start the Husker Power chant before delving into “Go... Big... Red..... GO BIG RED!!!!” We’ll end the feast with a subtle cheer at the end of the 4th qtr, because we’re classy AF. GBR
  13. Hahahahaha! Good catch. Perennial* I’ll go run some more stadiums.
  14. Undefeated regular season that included a 20-6 win over Tulane in their second game. Tulane went 2-10 that year.
  15. Wait a doggone minute... Bill Callahan and Bo Pelini are not Scott Frost. Bill took over a good team and destroyed the program. Bo took over a terrible team and made them decent (top 40). The guy who shall not be named took over a decent program and made them bake cupcakes. Scott took over a bakery, had 30+ dough boys leave in his first year for other culinary schools, and has so far turned that bakery back into a smelter. The blacksmiths can’t replace doughnuts with iron overnight. This staff had the hardest job of all 4 coaching staffs partially named above. He’s going to need time to win a division/conference championship. What we’re seeing is an actual transformation of a team. Culture changes take time. These kids can win, they just need to believe it. A lot will change by the OSU game, including the tone of this thread. In 2008, Nick Saban’s 2nd year at Alabama, the Tide came out flat in their second game against Tulane. Alabama won 20-6. Tulane finished 2-10 that year. Alabama has 18 returning starters. They finished 12-2. We aren’t going to finish with 12 wins, but I guarantee we’ll win at least 9 this year and have a chance to win the division. Frost took over a much worse team than Nick. We’ll look back on the first 3 years under Frost as clear building blocks to rebuilding a perineal power house.
  16. 100% correct. However, I’d call that vanilla. Frost hates CU, and I guarantee they will be utilizing 85% of the full playbook this next weekend, ahead of where they left off last year. This man knows how to coach, and all of the questioning of this coaching staff after this game, a game we all knew we could win on talent alone, is ridiculous. They weren’t prepared for this game because they’ve been preparing for Colorado. Now enjoy the Kool-aid and the a$$ whipping they give Colorado next week. Colorado will think they have an easy win. Mission accomplished. I’m going back to my regularly tuned kool-aid channel... games from ‘97 on YouTube. Get your red drink on!
  17. ‘Twas the hours before kickoff, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The huskers flag was hung outside with care, in hopes that a Husker victory would soon be there. The children are nestled, all safe in their beds, visions of fast touchdowns dancing in their heads. And the dog in his collar, and I in my red cap, drinking far too much coffee before the first snap. When all of a sudden, I remembered the news, that Adrian Martinez had new boys in new shoes. I got so excited, I danced and I sang, and I yelled out wildly with a confident twang “The culture is Frosty! You heard what I said! Time for a victory boys! Go. Big. Red!!!!”
  18. We lived in Utah for 10 years. It’s been a pretty darn good series for years and I had no idea until we lived out there. Every game seems to have some crazy storyline too. I wish they still played every year.
  19. It’s been shocking to say the least. It doesn’t look like the same team that pounded finished the year strong last year. Something is off with their run defense. It just looks bad for the B1G West.
  20. Hahahaha! You caught a big ol’ fish today. I’m a sucker. I’ll leave my previous post up unedited as a way of doing the right thing. Off to the high school to do my stadium steps.
