  1. This kid intrigues me because he appears to be a versatile baller that would find a place to play in Bo's defense. Looks like Florida treated him awfully...how about a call to the kid instead of making him pay $ and waste his time? With Tebow and Meyer gone, I would not be surprised to see Florida in the dumps for a few years.
  2. bump...we are up just 52% to 48%. keep the votes coming!
  3. And so where does Michigan State fit? It would have to be east as well...just sayin'.
  4. This is good news for us. This is a So Cal kid and I don't see him interested in USC (rebuilding under sanctions) or UCLA (head coach on very hot seat). This kid is a need and could play a lot in coming years.
  5. Excellent to see him visit which I think gives us a very good shot.
  6. Pretty good film. Gets the ball out quickly. Noticed his WR's got a lot of separation and he was pretty accurate. Looked like he was playing in Cowboys stadium so assuming his HS competition is pretty good and his team wasn't playing a bunch of lower schools. I envision our offense going more this direction...we need a couple more receivers to emerge though.
  7. Latest from Husker Journal: JUNE 7, 2011. ALL TEAMS MESSAGE BOARDS MASON MONHEIM, LB, 6-1, 215, ORRVILLE, OHIO Monheim has offers from Illinois and most MAC schools. Likes Illinois And Facilities “I took a visit to Illinois and I liked it.” Monheim said. “Everything was really nice, for one everything was in one area. The meeting rooms are right by the field, the practice field is in one central location. The weight room was super nice it’s big and all new.” “The head Coach Ron Zook has some history with Orrville; I think it was his first coaching job at Orrville. Ron is straight forward with you he’s such a cool guy.” Monheim said Zook Being Honest With Monheim “Coach Zook said you want to go some where’s you fit. If Illinois is not the place he doesn’t want me there, it’s not going to work out the best. He just said take your time but make sure you are making the right decision when you do.” Monheim said Monheim was referred to Ron Zook by former Orrville Coach Moe Pipton. Pipton spoke highly of Monheim and Coach Zook decided to offer him a scholarship. Academics Playing A Part “Illinois seems pretty big on academics. The staff member with academics met with me, basically all the Big 10 schools really, really have good academics. You’re going to get a great education there.” Monheim said Summer Camps “I heard from the Big 10 the bigger schools; they want me to go to their camps. I’ve taken visits to some of the places. The camps I’m going to are Michigan State and probably Ohio State. Michigan State seemed super interested I thought they might offer earlier. I went up there a week before the spring game-saw everything.” Monheim said Michigan State coaches told Monheim before they came to the school they will let him know either look at other schools or come to our camp. MSU coaches did invite him to camp. Monheim said he’s hopeful for an offer this summer from MSU OSU Fan Growing Up “Ohio State said the biggest thing is coming to camp. See me running and everything see how I work out. My parents went to Ohio State and I grew up a Buckeye fan. I’ve been to a bunch of their games; rich tradition and everything just unbelievable.” Mohheim said “Nebraska came to my school last month. I haven’t heard a lot from them. Max Pirman, I bet you know who that is (NU Signee). Earlier in the fall me and him went to the Nebraska and Kansas game. It reminded me of Orrville it’s all about football, everybody just loved it.” Monheim said
  8. I like this kid's video. Quick and agile it seems for a big guy. He looks like a DT candidate to me. Apparently started playing football just over last couple years after moving from Canada. Lots of offers...I think if he visits, we are Top 5.
  9. Notre Dame, LSU, FSU, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas would all be great for home and home in future.
  10. The only recruiting to be hurt will be at OSU. Top recruits now have to think they may not be eligible for conference championships and bowl games in the future. Same goes for any big name coaches...you really think Urban, Bo, Gruden, Dantonio, etc. would take the OSU job before it is is known what the sanctions and scholarship restrictions are going to be? Not happening...Fickell is the coach for all of next year...at least, if not more.
  11. The pressure was mounting on Tressel so I think this is good for college football (including Nebraska) that Tressel resigned and tried to save some face. OSU is dirty and I'd like to start fresh with them in our rivalry and hopefully this is a step in right direction. The interim guy is going to get his shot this year and I think if he does well and holds his own, they may just hire him if they believe he is clean in all of this. I don't see Bo going there...next coach is going to have sanctions, penalties, schollie restrictions to deal with...who wants that? It should help us recruiting in Ohio as this will definitely cause some guys to want to explore other options. Lastly, we better beat OSU this year...the one thing about OSU now is nobody is going to expect them to be at top of their game this year going through all of this. We need to beat them this year to grab the mantel in the Big 10.
  12. Jamal Turner is my X factor for this year's offense. His ability to catch short, quick route patterns in space is going to be key. If he and TMart can connect on these a lot it will open up the offense. Plus, Rex will need another back to help carry the load...someone will need to emerge. If this ends up being hand the ball to Rex and zone read by TMart, we are in trouble. First because teams have now defended our zone read well and second if we do this we are bound to take on injuries if Rex and TMart are taking hits nearly every down. Hoping Beck has this offense where it needs to be. We'll just have to see when the season starts.
  13. GT and Maryland? Meh...I don't think so. Would be better to take some of the prized pieces of a crumbling Big 12 in a few years.
  14. I would have liked to see Green stay for depth and experience on our roster but understand why he chose to look elsewhere. His style doesn't fit with the way this offense is going. In the spring game, he sort of just looked like he was in slow motion in our offense. We do lack depth now. TMart and Carnes are 1 and 1A. Hopefully we get Bubba on board as he is sorely needed now. Good luck to CG...if he finds the right offense, he can probably do himself alright.
  15. This is from Husker Journal. California recruit is itching to have NU offer him. Kid has some good offers already and seems eager to take visits. MAY 20, 2011. ALL TEAMS MESSAGE BOARDS JEREMY CASTRO, DE, 6-2, 235, MURRIETA (VISTA MURRIETTA), CALIFORNIA Castro has offers from, Arizona, Colorado, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Arizona State, LSU, Ole Miss and Iowa State. Bruins: “Moving Up In My Charts” “Actually UCLA is moving up in my charts right now. Like everything they are doing right now. They are getting more players, improving the coaching staff; the practices are better I like that. I like everything about them right now.” Castro said “I’ve been to UCLA and saw Coach Rick Neuheisel and the coaches. They told me they wanted to see me more and hear from me more, keep in touch with them.” Castro said USC Might Offer Later “I went to USC junior days. I didn’t see any of their practices but I like Lane Kiffin. I talked to Coach Ed Orgeron. I’m hoping I’ll get an offer from them, I hear rumors they (USC) want me to play center. ” Castro said “The USC coaches are real interested in me; they want me to go to one of their camps to see what I’m all about.” Castro said More Scheduled Visits This Summer “I’m interested in Colorado. I need to take a visit up there and see what it is like. See what the weather is like. They will probably be in my top five.” Castro said “Hopefully I’m going to take a visit to Oregon this summer. I love everything about Oregon; it’s kind of close I like that. Oregon wants me as an outside linebacker/defensive end; stand up guy in the 4-3 defense.” Castro said “I want to make a trip Boise (State). I would like to make a trip to Miami. My coach told me that Miami is interested in me. My coach is trying to see how to get an offer from them, things I need to work on.” Castro said “I talked to Coach Jeff Choate at Boise State he wants me to come down and go to camp. I’m hoping to get an offer when I do go there.” Castro said Waiting For The Nebraska Call “I get letters from Nebraska but not much. I love Nebraska I would visit Nebraska if they offered. I just talked to my brother a few days ago about Nebraska. I like what they are doing I know the head Coach (Bo Pelini) is a cool guy. I know their (Nebraska) defense is getting better. They have the black shirt (first team defense) tradition.” Castro said “At our school we give out black shirts, we got it from Nebraska’s tradition. Once we get a black shirt we get to wear it in practice each week. It’s hard to get it, its elite. My offensive coordinator Eric Peterson is familiar with Nebraska he likes the Huskers. He looks up on them and stuff.” Castro said “Bonding with the coaches, how well the team is together, the program really. I’m very interested in academics; I want to see how many players graduate.” Castro said what he is looking for at the next level.
  16. It will really be tough to go undefeated. I actually think we can win both @Wisconsin and vs. Ohio State. I think the Wisconsin game will be a low scoring contest. Our defense can win this game for us. Ohio State is beatable and will be interesting coming off the suspensions and how well they will play. We should win this game. My concerns are in the middle of the schedule as we grind through tough schedule. Michigan State strikes me as a team that will not make mistakes and put up some decent points...classic miscues from us will lead to a loss here. @ Penn State is also going to be tough to win there. So, those 4 games stand out to me...they can go either way and so it would not surprise me to see us win the 2 I think we may lose and lose the 2 I think we should win...just saying undefeated is not likely IMO. I also do not want to see us lose to Ohio State in CCG. I think a likely scenario is we beat them early at home but then they regain full strength and season under them and can knock us off in CCG. I really want to win a CCG as that has eluded us recently.
  17. Latest from Husker Journal: Sounds like a visit is in order if we really like him and want him. Good to see us recruiting this area of southern California...lots of good players around. MAY 14, 2011. ALL TEAMS MESSAGE BOARDS KYLE MURPHY, OL, 6-7, 280, SAN CLEMENTE, CALIFORNIA Kyle has more than 20 offers, he commented on a few schools that he is considering. USC In A Need “USC said they are hurting for offensive linemen right now, guys graduating-leaving early. I can go in there and compete for playing time.” Murphy said “I’ve been up there (USC) a few times. I was up for an unofficial in February to check it out a little bit. I went up there for a spring practice back in March and the spring game.” Murphy said Childhood Favorite “I liked USC since my childhood. I live in Southern California kind of Orange County. When I was 15 I kind of grew up watching them, very enjoyable.” Murphy said Several Trips To Stanford “I’ve been there (Stanford) a couple times. I went to junior days back in February. I went back there early April during spring break on an unofficial visit, to see them practice and stuff.” Murphy said “I got their (Stanford) application if all goes to plan hopefully I’ll be admitted in that school by summer time.” Murphy said “Oregon is a good quality program.” Murphy said. “I hear from them every once in awhile, I talk to the O-Line coach. Oregon has nice facilities the NIKE thing.” Huskers’ Need To Make Up Ground “It’s a school (Nebraska) I haven’t see a whole lot of, there are so far away. I talk to the coaches a little bit, besides I don’t know a whole lot about that school. I need to look into it and check it out.” Murphy said “I haven’t talked to Michigan a lot either. I’m most familiar with the West Coast teams right now. I might visit Nebraska and Michigan, I haven’t decided where I might go to. I’ll narrow my list later this summer.” Murphy said “Lot of coaches say I’m athletic –good pad level. I can bend with my hips and stiff. Kind of like get after it.” Murphy said “All the coaches want me to commit there, but they know I expressed I want to make sure I want to make the right decision. So they are all cool with me to wait a little bit before I actually decide.” Murphy said “I want to go to school with good academics, good solid program. Some where I can fit into team and coach. All that stuff plays in factor.” Murphy said
  18. Comment on Gruden...I generally like him but tonight was moments back to back. He calls Prince a sloppy technician and then the next pick is Clayborn who he says plays every down. These are exactly the opposite! Kiper seemed very quiet...sometimes he can be nauseating but Gruden was just saying whatever he scripted in his notes inmmediately and jumpin' Kiper. Thought there should have been better balance. Ponder was the biggest shocker IMO. Good for Aldon Smith but thought he went too high...Mizzou had 2 in top 10 and Smith was picked before Gabbert. Who knew?! Baylor with 2 picks in first round...good for them. Ravens looked dumb with their brainfart we can't get our pick in!
  19. Nice idea. I think it would work well and add a bit of uniqueness to our cross-over rivalry.
  20. Out here on the west coast and saw plenty of OSU, Michigan, Penn State 9am kickoffs especially with their non-conference games it seems. I don't mind a couple but certain Saturdays was ridiculous with majority of Big 10 teams playing at 9am on west coast. I had like 6 games to watch and usually went with the closest game. I think it is smart to push the times back a bit (we should want that for recruiting visits) or at least don't have 80% of your games over by 12:30pm on the west coast. Why not stagger and rotate a bit more?
  21. Read the other posts. I'll say this is the one I agree with most if T-Mart is healthy. I'll say: 1750 yards passing 13 TDs 7 INTs 1150 yards rushing 13 TDs 6 fumbles lost I do think that if T-Mart is bitten by the injury bug and/or is inconsitent passing, then we will see Carnes quickly. I sure hope he has a good year because if he does that means we are doing well. If not, it probably means we lost to someone we should not have (Holiday Bowl cough cough UW cough).
  22. I look at it this way...OSU was going to be top dog in the conference unless we beat them consistently over several years. Well, here is our chance to grab the top spot early. Keep our nose clean and make sure we beat these guys as the bad press follows them next few seasons. If we rip off a few wins and a couple conference championships, OSU would be knocked down a notch. The same thing just happened as Oregon has now dethroned USC in the Pac 12. We can become the top program in the Big 10 now and earlier than probably most imagined.
  23. Sorry to hear his football playing days are cut short. Best wishes to him.
  24. i am not ready to go that far just yet, our LB's and depth at that position bother me. the physical schedule this season will be brutal as well. Agreeing with Hunter. I'm worried a bit about the DE's as others. Now is the time for Camstash, Williams, and Ankrah. Moving Martin to DE was needed badly and I just want the guy to crush people off the edge. LB's a bit thin too. For DT, I hope Rome is a player but I have just really never seen him play. I'll know if our defense is up to the task for the Big 10 when I see the TFL numbers after a few games. Last year we played a lot of bend don't break and relied on DB blanket coverage.
  25. I'm saying Gomes gets drafted...too good not to.
