  1. People have blindspots, and being Frost's best friend makes Chin one. As I mentioned in another thread first-ballot HOFer Bobby Bowden promoted his son Jeff to OC, dude was obviously in over his head, but he kept that job for several years. Buddy and nepotism hires always make me nervous. It's a crapshoot whether they work-out and if they don't you can be stuck with them for too long. Not a coincidence that the only quality DC hire we've made since McBride was a guy that had no prior ties to the HC. Bo was an up-and-comer with the Packers that Monte Kiffin recommended.
  2. I wouldn't consider 6-wins a successful season. We would have been there last year if not for being screwed by Akron bolting on our tune-up game and AM being assaulted post-play. For me successful means a grade of A or B, and that's 8-4 or better. I give going 6-6 a D, it's passing but not by much.
  3. I remember when they used to publish testing numbers coming out of winter conditioning. Gold medalist Curt Tomasevicz's numbers would absolutely jump off the page, but he was never much of a LB.
  4. Frost and Chin are best buddies. Given that, there is a considerable question of his objectivity in this matter. Look at when Bobby Bowden hired Jeff Bowden to OC at FSU. Dude was obviously in way over his head but stuck around several years Diaco was just-that, a big name. He had one big year where things fell together, ND had some very nice talent and they got lucky a couple times to play for it all. Dude was loathed at UConn. I wouldn't dismiss hiring a proven DC because Eichorst shoved Diaco down Riley's throat.
  5. IMO that philosophy needs to go out the window with a chunk of our defensive staff. Ohio State is headed to the playoffs because they're nails on both sides of the ball. We won a national championship because he had a defense that allowed us to beat a top10 KSU squad with our walk-on qb. We play against well-coached teams in a quality con with several top defenses. We shouldn't count on getting turnovers and our O lighting up the scoreboard every week. To be a top team we need a top defense, more than just complimenting our offense.
  6. Since Frost and Chin are boys let him stick around coaching LB's(what he did at Oregon). Hire a legit P5 DC. Ditch DeWitt. Not sure if Chin can coach ST's or not but Ruud could stand to go anyway. Could either have Chin in charge of all LB's and hire a good ST's coordinator or find a better LB's/ST's guy than we currently have.
  7. I don't see us landing either of those guys but we can damn well do better than Chin. The sooner we recognize that we have a G5 staff and need to upgrade to a P5 staff the better.
  8. Banker wins the tallest midget competition We win this game with a Banker defense.
  9. We have used 4-man front some this season, it's just a matter of using it more often.
  10. Maybe we should admit we don't have four legit starting LB's and need to go with a 4-man front. IMO Stille should be helping Davis or Barry 'out".
  11. Unfortunately sounds like Pickering won't be helping our struggling kick-off game for the time being but hopefully we can get some fieldgoals out of him.
  12. If you tell me you had great practices then lay an egg in every phase of the game as happened with Minn I'm left thinking that either you're full of it or you aren't practicing what/how you should. Neither is a good look. I agree, just give it to us straight good, bad or meh. If players don't like it getting out that practice was crappy then they should avoid having crappy practices.
  13. It did take way too long to accept that we needed to ditch the 5-2 and get some damn speed/athleticism on D. The best team in CFB history was a TO/McBride-coached squad with stud athletes on both sides of the ball.
  14. Should know way more Saturday night. If we can get it together this week to beat a credible Indiana team could catapult us into a nice homestretch, but if we can't get it together at home coming off a bye we are probably hosed. Hopefully going back to basics/fundamentals and trying to instill more physicality during the bye week will pay off for us.
  15. Ya, Ohio State has dominated the con running a spread O. Being that our D-line is superior to our LB-corps I'd like to see more 4-man front this year but I'm OK with a 3-4 base long-term, either scheme works or doesn't depending on how well you recruit to it and execute.
  16. Always liked old Barnstache, hope he pulls through.
  17. With Wandale out and Washington gone the rest of the O needs to step-up their game and we need to find some O elsewhere. Would like to see Rahmir in there and getting more creative with the offense. Maybe put McCaffrey in at wr to do the old black 41 reverse pass to the qb. Indiana is going to score points, may need to resort to trickeration to keep-up.
  18. Reality is Frost was a rookie HC at a G5 program. What are the chances he put a whole staff together that can win big in the BIG? Not good. Frost said he doesn't like the practice of telling some assistants they aren't good enough when HC's get a promotion but there is a reason HC's typically just cherry-pick from their current staff then take several guys from elsewhere. There is a reason Florida wasn't supportive of bringing the whole coaching staff over plus promoting a coaching newb. He could most likely hire a better staff at Florida or Nebraska than he could at the time at UCF, especially with the benefit of broadened experience/contacts. As-is we're left hoping a good G5 staff will develop into a good P5 staff.

Would like to try Bando at RT and Farniok moved inside.
  20. There are certainly ways Frost is more handcuffed this season but there are still too many calls that are stupid or overly conservative. Bad screens and trying to force Mo to be physical running him up the gut behind a struggling line come immediately to mind. We need to find ways to get him the ball in space. Not just sneaking the ba!l inside the 1 against a gassed D at the end against Illinois was utterly ridiculous, could have cost us the game if our D doesn't step up.
  21. Ya, if staff really felt those frosh would help us win more I would think we'd see them out there. Plus if our upperclassmen are making fundamental/technical mistakes I would imagine our frosh are too.
  22. They said on RSS last week that Cam got some outside help on his snapping issues. Looks like it's working. Now if we can only fix all the other issues with our offense.
  23. Can I borrow it? Want to hit on some massive parlays then retire.
  24. I never wanted us to bring all the coaches over plus promote a newb to ILB coach but Walters and DeWitt were guys I was plenty glad we held onto. Surprised they have been so unproductive.
  25. I was surprised that we took care of the football and snaps were actually serviceable and the O still flat-out reeked against a D we steamrolled last year(granted with a different DC).. Bad line play, penalties, wr's not stepping-up, questionable play-calls, injuries, we have so many damn issues.
