  1. Hard to put recruiting as a positive being that Frost is done recruiting effectively til he produces a winner and makes his regime look more stable. Keeping him means accepting this class will suck and next class can only be salvaged late by either Frost finally turning things around or a new HC creating excitement.
  2. Ya, I don't get it either. I don't see a slow, weak, and/or out-of-shape team. I see a team that needs to be coached-up and run better.
  3. Dawson is fine as a OLB coach, Domann is the best player on the whole team and Nelson has come a long ways, but whether Frost survives or not he should not be running our ST's next season. They still aren't good enough and if anything Dawson will be less effective without the input of Bill Busch. But if we're going to have a new ST's coach we may need to ditch one of our LB-coaches. Chin has the experience, he can take over a group for the most part if the new guy doesn't coach LB's. Some want Mario's replacement to be a ST's guy but we need to hire a legit OC/qb-coach there.
  4. If this were year-one I would totally agree. This is year four. Frost has had plenty of time to recruit, work the transfer-portal, and develop players. At this point this is truly Frost's team, if the players aren't getting the job done at this point that is on Frost and company.
  5. TCU is in the 12 because of Gary Patterson, they could at-least have let the guy finish the season.
  6. I don't think he processes quickly enough to actually make a good read so it's more of a guess. Don't think he's a "fast-blinker" to begin-with and that's exacerbated by being developed by a coach that should have been gone already. Do wonder what AM would look like being coached-up by somebody better.
  7. Oh I agree. The BIG does sandbag us but reality is so-far we've played two teams with more talent than us yet have six losses. We aren't any more banged-up than the next team, we are getting outcoached. Not getting sandbagged for a change in '22 provides an opportunity for the program to have a get-right season. I'm leaning towards giving a new regime the chance to hit the ground running rather than hoping Frost will finally figure it out and fix things after four seasons of not doing that.
  8. We wouldn't be letting go of anything really, Frost is hardly the "bird in the hand" winning coaches like Bo or Solich were. Those guys ya you better have a homerun hire lined-up(which we obviously didn't). We should certainly make a run at a proven P5 coach and I do think we have a real chance. Bill O'Brien, Dave Clawson, or (controversial pick) Hugh Freeze would likely at least consider us. Maybe Dave Aranda would listen. But I can't see having a "proven P5 HC or bust" mentality when you're a(estimating) 4-8 team, the regime has had four losing seasons in a row, and recruiting is absolutely in the toilet. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program and our losing has killed it. A top G5 HC that's won consistently ala a Billy Napier or an elite coordinator ala Dan Lanning would be an acceptable hire.
  9. Plus next year's sched is more forgiving. Sets-up pretty well for a new coach.
  10. This is why you get an early start and contact your list through back-channels. You can afford to be thorough, find-out where both probables and longshots alike stand then whittle things down. Trev may have started already, he should certainly start this week with no better than 4-8 looking likely.
  11. No way of knowing Yant would trip himself up there but that's hardly the only thing that could have gone wrong there. We only needed a foot, put some beef behind AM to push the pile and sneak the damn ball. Getting cute near the goalline is one of the reasons we consistently rank significantly higher in yards than points.
  12. This recruiting reflects Frost's poor record, kids aren't buying-in and how can you blame them? Frost finishes below .500 yet again and we keep him anyway expect more of the same. Won't see improved recruiting til we're a winning team or get a new HC that creates excitement about the program again.
  13. Yes, and the situation was exacerbated significantly by TO hamstringing Frank by not wanting him to hire and fire as he saw fit. When Frank finally did it anyway after the crappy '02 season it was against the urgings of TO and McBride.
  14. My guess is that Frost can still either save or hang himself this season. Surprise with three wins he stays. Disappoint with zero or one he's done. Two wins and things get iffy, if the losses are fairly competitive I think Frost stays as long as he's putting his big boy pants on and making significant changes.
  15. Plus if Dawson was our answer why wasn't he fixing our ST's in 2020? Whether he had the coordinator title or not it was obvious Rutledge and "by committee" weren't getting the job done. Ya our punters/kickers aren't really developing, plus we've struggled to keep them healthy, probably not practicing correctly. Then you gotta question how much of the stuff that has improved was Busch input, his LSU buyout year is about up, won't have him as an analyst in '22. We need an upgrade in ST's coordinator in '22.
  16. Good OC/QB-coach that is somebody that Frost would be comfortable-with running the O with Lubick. Also, given their history may be a guy that would overlook the regime looking shaky where others would take a pass.
  17. I'm not a IMO Dawson is a little better but either way I think Chin taking over a LB group(largely anyway) to make space for a ST's coach is the way to go. Could replace Mario with a ST's coach and have Frost coach qb's but IMO a new qb-coach/co-OC is what we really need to get our O over the hump and allow Frost work on the team as a whole. Agree that Lubick and especially Beckton should be kept.
  18. The time to make changes was after three seasons of disappointment. If Frost had put his big-boy pants on we'd have a winning record and recruiting would be considerably better. Given the state of our program I'm not confident in our ability to hire quality assistants or hold on to what quality assistants we have. But assuming we don't lose any coaches this is what I think needs to happen: 1. Move Mario to analyst. Replace him with a qb-coach/co-OC that would enable Frost to back out of running the O and be more of a CEO type that helps all over. 2. Replace Austin, the lack of development here is staggering, only Jurgens has improved into anything and some guys have gotten worse. 3. Replace Ruud with a ST's coach who may or may-not coach LB's. If new guy doesn't coach LB's we have a DC that's done it. Chin can largely take-over the ILB's and Dawson can certainly help him since he won't be on ST's anymore. I'm not anti-Ruud but as I noted we can compensate for his loss, ST's absolutely have to get fixed. Held isn't a "must go" like Austin but I do think Ron Brown would be an improvement, likely the best coach that would take the job.
  19. Look at our recruiting, not one single 4*. In-demand recruits aren't buying into this program, would 4* assistants be any different? May well have to resort to bribery, pay notably more than the market rate or throw-in an extra guaranteed year.
  20. My answer is the same as last week when folks were so sure Frost was getting it done, let's see how the season plays out. My take is if at the end of this all we can say is that in four seasons we've just managed to be a more competitive losing team that isn't enough. Real progress would be beating the mediocre or worse teams fairly consistently and playing the quality teams close. Are we really better than we were in the second-half of year-one? That team went toe-to-toe with Iowa(only time AM scored on our last drive) and OSU. Beat Minn, MSU, and Illinois.
  21. Guys I don't see taking the job but could always go through channels to gauge interest: Fickell Urban(sketch but if you want the best chance to win he's your guy) Stoops Peterson Campbell(most likely of the group, depends on how he's feeling about the 12 shake-up) Solid guys I could see taking the job: Dave Clawson Hugh Freeze(has a past, we're probably too uptight to take him) Jamey Chadwell. Bill O'Brien Jeff Hafley Bronco Mendenhall Dave Aranda(probably the toughest get of this group) Haven't put any research into it but my faves off the top of my head would be Chadwell, Clawson, and O'Brien.
  22. He's not so troubled, was doing fine as HC for the Texans before trying and failing to be GM too. Do like that he's working for Saban either way, dude knows how to run a program. If Frost does get canned he'd be a perfect candidate for Saban's coach rehab.
  23. I don't see him taking the job either but if Trev has any sense he's contacting Urban or any other prospect through back-channels rather than potentially getting shot-down in public.
  24. Ya, like I said earlier in the thread it's a positive that we play quality teams close but if we can't beat the teams we should be handling that's not enough for being in year 4. Going by talent level we shouldn't be worse than 5-3.
