  1. One of my best bike rides this summer, I did an average of 19mph over a 20-mile ride. The dude currently leading this stage of the Tour de France is going 35mph at the end of a stage 55 miles long.

Even low speeds have proved dangerous for me. I once initiated an overtaking maneuver on a six-year-old who was walking on a trail. Got that bike up to about 8 mph when the tire popped off and I fell on my shoulder. Still have a scar there.

Love this discussion!  Fans were the topic of the day on the Tour today. It comes up every year. There is one camp that agrees with you knappic then there is another camp that says it’s just part of the race and you get used to it. I think they should have folks pay to watch the last 5k of the race. That would hopefully weed out the drunks and idiots who are trying to BE the show not watch the show.

When I went down my first big hill I thought my brakes would burn out. I learned very quickly that Speeding down the hills was part of the fun of riding. Coming off of the bike st any speed can be excruciatingly painful. I have scars to prove it as well. But keep riding!

GSG BRAN has rode in the panhandle. I’ve done the ride 10 times and know of a couple of times we hit Gering, Valentine, Chadron.

We would start off in those towns and ride forward. I especially remember Gering.
