  1. You're still ignoring the rest of the post I'm talking about. THIS ONE ^. Reiterating my main point that you seemingly ignored or did not comprehend from my original post. You did however mention a comparison of Rex to Kenny Bell. That is exactly the point I'm trying to get across. No one would say Kenny is just like Rex without the toughness, just as no one should say Taylor is just like Crouch without the shiftiness. Two completely different players and running styles. Somehow this got misconstrued in the following mess. Crouch and Taylor are nothing alike when running the ball was the main point of your conversation in this thread, and because that wasn't responded to we had to have this huge tangent? Allow me to respond to that earth-shattering point - you're right. Crouch and Taylor are nothing alike while running the ball. All better now?
  2. Gonna have to make more room on the poster:
  3. Has anyone purchased those Husker gloves? I checked them out when they showed up at the stores. They look better in pictures than they do in real-life. I wasn't impressed, especially for $45 a pair.
  4. This was your post: This is my response to your post: Yes, there is. Burkhead is a good runner of the football. Kenny Bell is fast. Used properly, both can not only be effective, but make important contributions to the team. And Mike Rozier was miles ahead of Crouch running the football. Rozier was better than Crouch by a greater degree than Crouch was better than Martinez. But somehow, both Crouch and Rozier seemed to have pretty successful careers. It's funny that Crouch is used as a benchmark for Martinez. Crouch was Martinez when Martinez was still in third grade. Crouch was a superlative talent with public relations problems. He had awkward relations with his teammates, he had a weak passing game, but with the ball in his hand he could score from any point in the field. The fans bitched about Crouch every week. He was a ball hog, he was a prima donna, he would NEVER pitch the ball, it was all about Crouch, me, me, me, me, me.... that's all you ever heard. Fast-forward ten years and we're wishing Martinez was more like Crouch. Time really does heal all wounds. My response was completely football-related. You respond as if I'm attacking you personally. I explain that's what you did. You claim all you've done in this thread was talk about football. Here is where the thread got derailed: All you had to do was not go off on a tangent about the person you're talking to, but stick to the subject, and none of this conversation is taking place. But you did, I responded, and now this happened: So, thanks to you, my whiner status has now been elevated and I've been reported to the whiner police. Great. Thanks a lot. And if you think I'm being very serious about any of this, you would be incorrect. It's just a conversation. Nothing serious.
  5. I responded to your points. If you want to act like that's "jumping down your throat" I would humbly submit that your constitution may not be suited to the rigors of a very tame internet message board conversation. If you're going to take part in the conversation, then be prepared to have your statements discussed without complaining about it. I'm not butt hurt, but I've seen enough of your 16,000+ posts to know that arguing with you is like arguing with a brick wall. You refuse to see the other side and you're never wrong. As evidenced by your failure to respond to the rest of my post that you have selectively quoted above. And I've seen enough of your posts to know that you would rather complain about the person you're talking to than make a point. So where does that get us? Do you want to keep bitching about the people in this thread or do you want to talk football? Unbelievable. This is the very definition of butthurtedness. Just freaking get over it.

  7. I just watched the Illinois match last night. It was classic Nebraska volleyball. Big hits, big blocks, tough digs, and a setter that is out-of-her-mind good. Cook (the setter) can throw up any set from about anywhere on the court at just about any time, it seems. She's ridiculous, in a very good way. Werth is a holy terror on the left side. You give her a paper-thin gap and she's going to punch that hit through, and God help your back court if you don't close the block fast enough. Mancuso is turning into the fine all-around player she was billed as coming out of high school. Lots of folks were saying she would be better than Dani, and she may very well be. Dani was a tough competitor, but G-Train seems to have all the tools, the superlative court vision, and she also plays very solid defense behind the block. That kill she had from the back court in the third set where she just ripped it off the face of the blocker – wicked. Nasty. Brutal. But beautiful. We have a LOT of star power on this team. Werth, Cook, Mancuso – they're just the start. Thramer is really rounding into shape. She's improved tremendously on the net, both blocking and hitting. Brooke Delano is as solid as ever, and seems to be building as the year goes on (she had off-season surgery, remember, then spent all summer planking with Zac Lee). Morgan Broekhuis has some moments where she's out of synch, but when she gets going she is a brutal attacker. Her defense is outstanding, she's talented enough to allow Cook (the coach) the ability to pull Cook (the setter) for Simpson to block and let Morgan set. What kind of weapon is that? That's almost unfair from a 6-4 right-side hitter. I am pretty sure we could dig up a thread after the Red/White Match where I was nervous about this team. I came away from that match concerned. They just looked shaky. They looked out of sorts. I thought they should have been in much better form, and I was concerned heading into the Big Ten, which is a tremendously tough conference (not at all like the Big XII). Here we are two months into the season, and things seem to be working out OK. We had one five-set loss to then-#15 Colorado State, at their house, in front of a huge crowd. We were up 2-0 and very clearly started coasting, and it cost us the match. We were middling around through the next few matches, and then came Penn State. Same thing happened that happened against CSU – we went up 2-0, then the opponent came roaring back and forced a fifth game. You could see the surprise, almost shock, on the faces on the bench between Game 4 and Game 5. I was very concerned, and figured we were going to lose to Penn State, again. But a funny thing happened. They found themselves, there on the bench, and the fifth game was a near-rout. That was probably our defining moment from this season. They realized their potential, saw it out there, and went and grabbed it. It's been a tsunami ever since. It seems we keep rolling along, building and building, and we're playing ball at a really high level right now. I doubt we'll go undefeated in Big Ten play. We still have to play at Penn State, at Illinois and at Purdue, and we have Michigan State, Michigan and Minnesota coming to the Coliseum. That's a lot of very tough matches to presume we'll go undefeated. But you have to like our chances in every single match. It's been a fun ride thus far, halfway through the inaugural Big Ten schedule. Can't wait to see the second half.
  8. Husker John, just amend that to SPORTS championship and you're correct. Nothing against the debate team, but that's not exactly what this board focuses on.
  9. Sparty has their own Husker look-alike thread. Love their take on Eric Martin.
  10. Not to mention the fact that they always turn into a Rozier-is-better-than-Crouch argument. I hate it when guys do that!
  11. Absolutely incorrect. Mike Rozier was a BOSS. Eric Crouch was good. There is a very distinct talent gap between the two. This is what I'm talking about regarding time - people forget, or gloss over, the reality of the situation. Suddenly Crouch is this paragon that we just wish Martinez was like. Ten years ago about half our fans couldn't wait for Crouch to graduate and get out of the program - that's how much he was disliked. Suddenly, Crouch is so good that he's on par with one of the single greatest players in the history of college football - and this is a guy who's widely regarded as the worst Heisman trophy winner in the past 20 years. The point you're trying to make about Gill, Rozier and Fryar actually goes in favor of what I'm saying. Rozier played on a team of giants. And among those giants, he stood taller than the rest. Put Crouch on that team and he's barely an impact player.

I thought Hannah had a better match against stiffer competition. Congrats to Gina!

Hannah would have been a great choice, too. I just watched this match last night on DVR, and she was CRUSHING the ball.

  14. If ever there was a game to "release the hounds," it's this one against an immobile Cousins. I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath.
  15. I wish there was a storybook ending like that for every great Husker fan's last game.
  16. That is good to hear. He is a weapon that needs to see the field.
  17. According to multiple sources on Twitter, including the Huskers, Nebraska is #1 in Women's Volleyball after defeating former #1 Illinois last Saturday. Link when it's officially published.

  18. It does fit Martinez to a "T" with the main difference being experience. Martinez has all of last year to draw on, and there were a TON of teaching moments for him last year. When you have a Martinez and a Carnes, you don't simply bench Martinez to give Carnes reps hoping that he'll eventually get to where Martinez is. It's unfortunate for any player to come in and be a year behind a good player at his position. He has to be patient, and willing to be that team guy who bides his time and helps the team while he's doing it. A great example of that is Rex, biding his time behind Helu. You can't take Helu off the field and just give Rex all the snaps, but Rex needs to get his touches, too. It just requires patience being that #2 guy.
  19. In limited action Rome seems to be a good addition to the defensive line. With all respect to Crick, his injury may be addition by subtraction. I believe there was something not altogether right about Crick this season, even before the ear-holing he got against Washington. Rome's personal foul was good fire - although he (rightly) got a butt-chewing for it. But just like Osborne, Smith, Washington, Green, May, Fisher, Compton, Whaley, Ankrah, Martin, etc, it rests on Bo and his staff to properly develop Rome. He may have all the raw talent in the world, but if they're not capable - or not willing - to bring that out of him then he'll never amount to much more than he is today - a guy with talent. Everyone I listed in the first sentence of this paragraph has talent. It's up to Bo & Co. to draw that talent out of them. So far this season.......
  20. But that whole "I'm going to kill you for stepping on the field" attitude isn't Bo's defensive philosophy. We are never going to see those Charlie McBride attacking defenses that we all know as the Blackshirts under Bo, unless he gets another superlative phenom like Ndamukong Suh, whose sheer abilities cannot help but be that way. Bo's philosophy is bend-but-don't break. He wants to force the opponent to grind out long drives, to make their own play beat them. Bo's defenses don't dictate to their opponent, they're a read-and-react style of defense. That's what makes it so much harder to figure out what the benchmark is - they're always going to give up yards, and they're always going to give up points to high-powered offenses. It's just part of the style Bo runs. So if he's waiting for them to shut a team down.... he needs to switch what they do.
  21. Right there with you. It's a dog-and-pony show. Give me a football game without the claptrap of ESPN and I'm happy.
  22. I know the Marlowe catch in the third was a superhero-type grab, but what others were tough catches?
  23. What kind of prizes are you giving out, Landlord? I could grow a fierce beard in a week. I just hate having a beard. Too itchy.
