  1. This my thought too. I was stunned he rolled out our punter to attempt a long game-tying FG instead of putting the ball in our theoretical best player's hands to put 'em in position to win.
  2. Did you watch Frost's presser? Sounds like Frost agrees with most of the same criticisms.
  3. Normally I'd agree, but this one pissed me off. Never thought I see Frost out-coached like he's been so far this season.
  4. This isn't the Scott Frost I thought we were getting from Oregon/UCF. The play calling isn't aggressive and we still play "dumb" football, akin to what we had the last couple of Pelini's years and Riley's tenure. We may have another Taylor Martinez at QB, and not in a good way. On a positive, the team is definitely better at forcing fumbles/turnovers this season.
  5. The positive take is that next week's betting line should be favorable.
  6. Thanks. I guess if any there's anything new it will come out today. Just seems strange to me that they wouldn't already have the necessary information at this point to make a decision.
  7. Sorry if this was mentioned a few pages back, but what is the game time decision about? Is new information expected to be gleaned between now and game time?
  8. Assuming Hoiberg is as close to a done deal as humanly possible, I doubt he reneges simply because ISU opens up at 11:59th minute.
  9. Any shred left of "we" do things more righteously than they in the SEC, or where ever, would be gone.
  10. Many ways to spin the bowl results, but one I think is close to fact: Pac12 has really fallen off the map. They really need to re-invent themselves or they risk being thought of as more of a G5. USC can't singularly save that conference. Perhaps UO will rise up next season with Herbert.
  11. I tend to agree with this. There's an argument against Saban not being THE best, but no one can state that some other coach is more accomplished. No one has even brought up Meyer based on what he was able to do at Utah (as a mid-major program) prior to having Saban-like success at UF & OSU. It comes down to which data points matter to you. I argue 95 NU is best ever team due to how dominant they were compared to every other team that season. Some say 01 Miami because of the amount of NFL talent on that roster. Some might state this year's Bama if they wallop Clemson. Its all in what criteria is used to define "best".
  12. When a team has 85 players on scholarship, they should always be able to field a team with or without "stars". It does suck, but if you're a fan that subscribes to "college football is a business", it shouldn't bother you that much. I still consider consider college football an extra-curricular activity, but I understand that for many (too many?) of the players, probably getting drafted in first three rounds, school is actually the extra-curricular activity.
  13. No faith all game long in letting Martinez throw past the sticks on 3rd down. Way to conservative that drive.
  14. Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. I didn't think SF would be the type of coach to play call to not lose (which often results in losing). He's been undressed the past 3 weeks. Michigan was understandable. On the fortunate side, I do think he'll get us where we want to be. But at least for this year, I can't put the losses 100% on player talent or football IQ.
  15. I'm not gonna rail on the guy. He is clearly talented, just like Lindsey is. If losing 4-start talents is what it takes to right the mentality on this team, then I"m all for ripping off this band-aid.
  16. If Pelini hadn't gotten fired, I believe NU as stepping stone was exactly what he was hoping for. Have I now derailed it further.
  17. Growing up, the Blackshirts was a term used to describe the NU defense (basically the starters); 'The Blackshirts are taking the field'. Realizing that different packages have somewhat changed whom may be the starting defense game to game, to me, it seems weird to not refer to the usual starting 11 as the Blackshirts.
  18. I remember how impressed I was with Tanner Lee during last year's spring game. Definitely, Martinez and Gebbia looked better than the others, with Martinez coming out on top. Great for a scrimmage without blitzing or having to worry about actually being tackled. Guessing it'll be one of these two, but other than Martinez's speed, I won't take much as gospel from Saturday.
  19. Based on all suggestions I've read/heard, Sirius still works for me.
  20. If I recall, Delany's scheduling model was to get the top teams / blue-bloods to play each other more often, not less.
  21. I would agree that as a pure QB, Gill wasn't just better than Frost and Crouch, the comparison really isn't close. Two of the three, were at best, average passers. Those same two weren't touched by the NFL as QB draft picks.
  22. Those stating that the tradition is the starting defense is the blackshirts, regardless of performance, and the the name is more marketing now, are both correct. I wonder if some of the "luster" thats lost is simply just 'changed times'. It used to be that 11 was the number of starting defenders. It used to be that there were more players (scholly/walk-on) that filled scout/freshman/jv teams (150 players?). It used to be that 99.9% of players stayed at one school and played for a full fpur years, thus requiring a player to wait longer to become a starter, if the opportunity actually ever came (especially considering there were only 12 games tops). And finally, NU used to be one of those few places that could sell a cool tradition like the Blackshirts. All of this to state that it used to be "harder" to get a blackshirt. Now with smaller rosters, more games, more 'starters' and more attrition opportunity, its not quite as exclusive as it used to be. Plus, other schools have come up with marketing/gimmicks, some even in the last few years, that are considered cool. Just another perspective.
