  1. As the posters over on the VT board pointed out, VT opens with Alabama. They may or may not be highly ranked and undefeated when we play them. I think they will be ranked either way, pending another Clemson type blow out, but whether they are a bottom tier top 25 team or upper echelon is yet to be seen.
  2. I couldn't watch the game, live in NY, but was following the game score on ESPN. I was all excited with about 2 minutes to play. I get up and go in the kitchen for a minute and refresh the score and go WTF!?!!?!?!? How the heck do you play a team that well and tough up to the final 2 minutes and then give up 10 unanswered? I didn't see it so if anyone who did could clue me in I would appreciate it. I was pretty high on this team after watching the Mizzou game on ESPN the other day, now I don't know what to think other than STREAKY.
  3. Call BS on what exactly? The stats for Cory Ross or .. ? http://www.nflhuskers.com/draft/2006ross.html And rushing totals .. http://www.huskers.com//pdf7/135025.pdf (Page 4) Cory finished 2 yards behind Diedrick and 34 behind LP on the all-time list. Or are you calling BS on the physical attributes comparison? I mean, if height were such a disadvantage, why was Cory able to progress into one of the best RBs in Husker history? With speed being a disadvantage, why was Ross able to progress into one of the best in Husker history? With strength being a disadvantage, why was Ross able to progress into one of the best in Husker history? You look at Cory and he looks like a pudgy little meatball, but yet he is one of the best runners in our schools history. God did not bless him with great genetics, but yet look at what he was able to do. Again, it goes back to if you are willing to work to do what you want in life. Just because something is harder for you than someone else does not mean it is not attainable. That's just a cop out for actually working that much harder. Ok please you are listing an exception to the rule, just like Mugsy Bogues and Spud Webb I mentioned earlier. How many players are in the NBA that are my height? Can you name another NU RB in the last 20 years that was as short as Cory Ross and started or made significant contributions? How about the pros? I completely agree with you about hard work releasing untapped potential, I have been around athletics enough to see a whole lot of that. It is because of this that I don't put as much stock in the recruiting ratings as some, those rankings give you the current measurables but they don't factor in heart or desire. TO did a better job than anyone in measuring the whole package, so far Bo's staff seems to have some of the same ability or at least I hope. A person with less talent can overcome those with a lot more by simply wanting it more. You cannot deny the impact genetics has on a person's potential. Perfect example that scientists are studying is the phenomenon of black runners who can trace their lineage back to or are from Western Africa are better built to be sprinters vs. black runners who are from or whose lineage goes back to Eastern Africa are better built to be long distance runners. Both groups are genetically engineered different, this is fact. This also explains a lot about why the U.S. is so good in sprint events in the Olympics, most of the African-Americans have lineage back to the Western Coast of Africa. A good portion of the long distance runners in the U.S. are still Caucasion. The African-American has better genetics for quick burst speed, why do you think that the majority of the skill players these days are African-American. They are blessed.
  4. Of the 3 DL's you mentioned, I don't see a current commit among them. We are in it with all 3, but last I checked none of them are a sure thing. However current commit Randall looks to be a beast and a great find. Needs to redshirt and add some size, but will be a force in 2-3 years. Along with Baker and Toailoa being Redshirt Freshmen this coming year and Crick and Moore still having 3 years left to play, the interior D-Line looks like it will have quality depth going forward. I think we will continue to see this staff make getting 1-2 really good interior D-Lineman a priority each and every year. They are so important to the success of a defense.
  5. little disappointed that I can't get his site to register other link hits to see the rest of the pictures.
  6. No, you have the ability to get to that point, just not the work ethic to get to that point. For example -- Larry Bird. A slow white kid who could not jump and even had problems reading. He was not going to win a foot race, was not going to out jump anyone or do anything flashy on the court, but yet ended up being one of the greatest players in the history of the game. With Bird you could find him during the winter shooting jump shots. While most kids were inside during the Indiana winters, Bird was shoveling snow so he could get space to shoot a basketball. It's dedication like that which took a meager athlete and made him one of the greatest ever. It would be easy to say that Bird is the exception and not the rule. But Bird is one of the few who actually had the determination to knock down his mental barriers to overcome his lack of physical attributes. Not many have that and it still goes on with so many people when they say they cannot succeed like others. Your body is a science and a complex object that you just need to figure out. And like Bird, if you put in the time to train your body, it can accomplish things no one thought is possible. You are comparing apples and oranges now. I was a pretty good athlete in my day, and I worked my butt off to become good. I continue to be in good shape and can play a lot sports well when I have time. In this you are correct, if I worked my butt off in any of the sports I could play them well. My genetics however do limit my ceiling in any of those sports. I am 5' 5" tall, I am limited in how far I could take my career in many sports. I could not play D1 QB, LB, DL, OL, etc. nor could I play in the NBA. Larry Bird may have worked hard enough to overcome being a bit slow and uncoordinated, but he was also tall enough and was blessed with a frame that once molded by hard work allowed him to play in the NBA and become one of the best ever. Spud Webb and Mugsy Bogues are the only players I know of in recent history that are around my height and played a significant amount of time in the NBA. They were good players for a short while, not great. If Larry was as short as Spud Webb there is no way he is the player he became, hence a person's genetics plays a large part in what a person can ultimately do.
  7. I agree, I think we're gonna have a pretty average offense at best. All the key players we'll have are all brand new rookie players except Helu and Castille. That's going to be a huge problem. Hopefully they are able to get motivated and play hard, but also play smart. Well there are actually a lot of players that have significant playing time already. Holt and Paul, good or bad thing on Paul is up for debate, at WR. Other than that, a lot of players with little playing time. Khiry Cooper looks like he could be special. McKinnie is a JUCO that looks like he could contribute right away. On the O-Line almost all of the non-freshman returning players got a lot of playing time due to the rotation Barney did this year. They have Mike Smith, Keith Williams, Jacob Hickman, D. J. Jones, Marcel Jones, and Javario Burkes all got a decent amount to a lot of playing time this past season. Add to that Ricky Henry who got two years at a JUCO and by most accounts was ready to play last year and was dominate in practice. Ricky by far could be the best of the lot next year. Running Backs looks like a position of strength next year. Tight End also looks a position of strength with McNeil and Young coming back and Cotton looking like a possible STUD who could surpase both in the near future. QB is the wide open question obviously. A lot of talent on the roster. I think there is enough experience coming back along with some really good young talent that will emerge that the offense will be pretty decent next year. Maybe not Top 15 good, but I will guess and say Top 30 is not too far fetched.
  8. He was a 2 in 3 guy so he is now a RJr. with 2 to play still.
  9. Well looking at the QB's on the roster, they are all Jr.'s or younger so I would guess whomever wins should get a shot to play 2-3 years at least. That is provided they don't get beat out later on, which is entirely possible with the talent on the roster and Bo's edict that the best players play.
  10. He came from Iowa whose Strength Coach is known nationally. Bo brought him in last year as a part of the new staff, Bo and Co. want leaner and faster players that are still strong as oxes. Dob's did some great work last offseason getting the players trimmed down and into shape. Dillard lost like 30-40 lbs. Team got noticeably faster and had more stamina. So far he seems like a great pick up for Bo.
  11. Genetics also makes some ceilings higher than others. My ceiling is definately not as high as Cody Green's ceiling. No matter what I do I won't be big or strong enough to play D1 FB. I am a good athlete, but I don't have the ceiling some of these guys have. However to your point, in my athletic area of compitence I was able to get better quicker than some by putting in the same amount of work. When I put in the extra effort I got to another level higher than most and hence I was pretty successful in my athletic endeavors.
  12. You see that as a fan, of course. As a recruit, Kevin Young can see it completely differently. Which is less bias? So either you are right or you are saying Kevin is a little bit stupid in what he saw in relation to how he would get PT. Wasn't there talk at one point that Mangino pulled or would pull his offer to Young if he looked at other schools. The whole loyalty thing that Mangino has stuck with in the past. I guess he was willing to set a whole new prescedent.
  13. 100 inch wingspan is impossible. That is a measurement of his standing reach. He places his hands above his head and it basically means his height (close to 80 inches) plus his arms another 20+ inches over his head is his reach. Not an immensely important measurable. It is a measurable that matters for D-Lineman that have to get their hands up and disrupt the passing game.
  14. Um...what exactly is Potter referring to there??? Getting invited to the Combine
  15. How exactly would Taylor have been great in Meyer's offense? Maybe I have the wrong Taylor. Are you speaking of Zac Taylor or Steve Taylor? Either way, I don't think either Taylor would have excelled in Meyer's offense. If Tebow comes back and makes it to another NC game, he probably surpasses Frazier. If not, he simply equals him. Both have done great things for their respective programs. Tebow has two NC rings plus his hypseman trophy. Frazier has two NC rings. I will say this about the two. Frazier would have more than likely succeeded in Florida's offense more than Tebow would have excelled in Nebraska's offense in the 90's. Tebow is big, but he's not an exceptional runner at all. Ahhhh yes Steve Taylor! Good player, not great though. How about Turner Gill? I think he would be better than both Tebow and Frost in that offense.
  16. If he doesn't declare, isn't the LB Witherspoon back? He is a really good player.
  17. That is what I thought to, AR's response indicated that the incident was his 2nd violation and he was getting a 7 day suspension.
  18. As of right now yes they are. That is what Bo believes in and he has said so on several occassions. He is the one that drives the train on the weekly selection process and all signs point to it staying for the forseeable future.
  19. Really? I'm not so sure on that. Not really an NFL guy. Is he better than Vince Young in college, I don't think so. Now realize that and then look at Vince Young right now. Name me one QB from a spread-type run first offense that has been a success in the NFL. There isn't one, save Michael Vick if you count him. Maybe Tebow can do it, but he doesn't have the accuracy or arm strength VY had in college, so how he could start for any team I don't understand. Yeah most project him as an H-Back in the NFL. And yes he could start for NU over Ganz, easily. Especially the Zone Read offense NU ran this year. Right up his alley as a dual threat. And for the recruiting process, wasn't he the one that had the TV special on him in Florida as a Senior? If so I thought he said in that show that he grew up a Gator fan and his dream was to go to Florida, wasn't really a doubt I don't think in the end.
  20. That is Tuff Tigers description of MU, Tuff as Hurricane! Started out as Tuff as Rain. He changed it earlier this year. Am................ok? TT is a big fan favorite here, to get the whole TAR start you'd have to search TT and go back to last year. He has these great posts trying to explain it. He upgraded it this year to Hurricane, if I remember right, to reflect the awesome play MU was displaying at the time.

  22. ok if you say so........
  23. It is really good to hear this kind of stuff about him. Would be nice to get a nice rotation of Dominate DT's again.
