  1. Got some old Tyson fights in his prime on ESPN2 tonight. Pretty fun watch for somebody who was far to young to remember.

Ha, I watched that as well.  I was falling asleep watching the Bruno/Tyson fight.  I couldn't remember what round Tyson KO'd him but I was snoozin' before it happened.  I remember going over to a friend's house with my dad to watch the Tyson/Douglas fight on PPV.  I think it cost $99.  It's crazy looking back that Tyson was only 23 when he fought Douglas and he was already the biggest thing in the world.  He was almost as popular as Jordan back then which seems unthinkable given how far boxing has fallen in terms of popularity.

Yeah learning Tyson's actual age during those fights was kind of jarring for me. I guess I thought Tyson was younger than he is. I didn't know he was already well into his reign of terror in the late 80s.

Found it interesting how much bigger (4+ in, 15 lbs, a whole foot of reach) Douglas was. See a bit more variability in the heavyweight class I guess. Douglas just had everything working for him that night. Gotta feel like the loss of his mom carried him, somewhat.

Tyson was definitely the last megastar in boxing. Sad to see it go downhill. I try to catch some of the bigger fights (Fury-Wilder II was kinda lame) but find myself watching much more MMA these days. ESPN+ has already paid for itself in that regard.

Yeah Tyson was a total hurricane, he turned pro I think in 85 and fought something like 15 times in that first year alone which seems nuts for todays standards.  Douglas definitely said it was the best he's ever fought and there is a really good 30 for 30 called 42-1 that dives into his story quite a bit.

Completely agree about watching way more MMA nowadays.  MMA/UFC does a remarkably better job of putting together the big name fights fans want to see.  Boxing absolutely stinks at doing that.  We should've gotten a Crawford/Spence fight by now (well before Spence got in his car accident).
