  1. I get the desire to want MR to win and do well here. He is easy to root for and to be proud of, points made by SE. But when it comes down to it, we have been waiting for certain lines of logic, that border on promises, to ring true. MR's record on those things is worse that his won-lost record. We were told that he wouldn't force an offensive system on players who couldn't run it. That was B.S. We were told that he was an experienced coach and said experience gives him a competitive advantage. But we lost a lot of close games where experience, one would assume, makes the difference. We were told that he appreciated the culture here. Then we were told it had to change because it was a destructive culture left by Bo. We were told MR liked the players he had, was impressed by our depth at a number of positions, and thought TA could be a great asset in the run game. Then he said and did things that ran completely contrary to that. Lastly, we were told he could recruit. We were told that he had long standing relationships with all sorts of prospects who loved MR, but simply couldn't agree to come play for the Beavers. We were told that our facilities and support structures would be the difference and we would get those guys. All of that.... B.S. MR did what he could and admirably was able to keep Bo's class together. He added almost nothing to that class. This class lacks star power and we wonder where all those recruits were that he had great relationships with. MR is struggling to sign a class that's as good as what Bo did and Bo didn't exactly set the world on fire with his smile. MR has the Huskers rated No. 8 in the latest Rivals.com ratings.... for the Big 10. Guess we should all thank our lucky stars there are 14 teams in this league. I can see us going up a spot in recruiting, but not much beyond middle of the pack in the league. I look at what Tim is doing for the basketball team. We are in the middle of the pack for the league and, if we can keep our momentum going and catch a break, we might make the NCAA tourney. For me that's high times for the Husker cagers. If we win an NCAA game, that's a bonus. The Husker football team is taking on an image under Riley where a middle of the pack finish in the league and a bowl game of any kind represent high times and a win in the bowl is icing on the cake. Forget the notion of playing for a national title for a second. High times for this program for me represented competing for, but not always winning the conference title, and more often that not, making a bowl game like one of the non semifinal New Year's Six. I am frustrated because I don't think that expectation is going to be met anytime soon.
  2. Can't say this bothers me too much. Although it could be argued that Valentine, more the Collins anyway, is making a decision based on his lack of faith in the defensive scheme. When Suh made his decision to stay and play another year, I think that was mainly a vote of confidence in the Pelini system. And it paid off as Suh got drafted high.

    5-7

Winning teams? 6-6 teams and bad teams from poor conferences are allowed to play. What's the difference between a 6-6 team and a 5-7 team? I would argue not much. Realize that you have to draw a line somewhere, but identifying 6-6 teams as "winners" seems very silly.
  4. Winning is better than losing. And it's Husker football, so it would bring a smile to my face. But a second after that, I would realize that UCLA had nothing really to play for and we really didn't gain much by beating them....
  5. Mobility is very over rated in a passing quarterback... if you're talking about the ability to run when the play breaks down. O'Brien's success depends on a pair of factors. Can the dude make fast reads and unload the ball quickly? Can he read the blitz and climb the pocket? Tommy holds onto the ball a long time. And sometimes, when he improvises, it's because the block can't hold that long. Tommy is also forced to improvise because he can't always see the pressure in pre-snap and adjust the protection or routes accordingly. What is more likely, that Tommy will improve in terms of his mental game (the coaches have to help him there with a good plan) or that O'Brien will come in and pick up the offense fast enough to win the job? If O'Brien wins the job, he's a savant. Tommy has the lead because he's been trying to figure this out longer. If the coaches give Tommy all the teaching they can, and he is open to it, then Armstrong will win the job in the fall.
  6. It would be great to have another QB in the room to compete with POB. If Allen beat POB, then that's fine. If he just pushed POB to be greater, that works too. Here is the problem. Isn't this guy leaving because there was too much competition? Answer: YES Ok, then, nevermind
  7. In the days that followed the Iowa loss, my social media feed has seen a great up tick in the number of posts about how much people hate Iowa. I guess that means there is some traction to that rivalry after all, but it makes no sense to me. In addition, there have been a lot of posts about Oklahoma and how cool it is that the Sooners are in the playoffs. The whole idea of Oklahoma being a respected rival of ours... well, it gives me a headache. At the end of the day, a rivalry, and the hate of another team comes down to what the other team has that your team wants. Take Oklahoma for instance. In the early Osborne years and through quite a few games in the 80s, Oklahoma got what Nebraska wanted, a Big 8 title. It was a killer. We got some revenge late in the Osborne years as we won titles and the cheating Sooners got served. But they came back. Nebraska was coming off a Fiesta Bowl win and had championship aspirations... until Oklahoma beat us at Norman. And the Sooners won the national title in 2000. Bill Callahan had a chance to win the Big 12 title. The Sooners took it from us. Bo Pelini had a chance to leave the Big 12 with a conference title. The Sooners took it from us. They're in the playoffs this year. We are on the trash heap. They keep winning.... conference title after conference title. Ohio State is the Oklahoma of the Big 10. They have what we want. Granted, Michigan State is the champ this year and is in the playoff. But the Buckeyes win and win and win. They cheated, got their coach fired. And then went 12-0. People laughed the next year when they went 12-2, so they went 15-0 and won the whole thing. This year, they are 11-1 and will probably beat Notre Dame. If they do, they'll be 51-3 in four years. They have what we want. When Iowa beat us, I was sad. But when Iowa was picked over Ohio State for the Rose Bowl, I had to laugh. Iowa won't be back next year. They don't have what we want. And so I can't hate Iowa. They don't deserve that kind of attention.
  8. I am a Dallas fan. And, as such, there have been times that I almost wished players, like Jason Whitten, for instance, could go somewhere else in a trade or free agent situation just so that he could get that success he deserves. I find myself feeling the same way about TA here at Nebraska. I think Armstrong would be deady in a system like Oregon. With that talent around him and his speed/ball faking ability. Don't think he'll leave. Don't want him to leave. But man would he be go...

      Apathy

You're a Dallas fan and you misspelled *Witten's* name wrong lol

  9. I hate Oklahoma. Battle of the Big Reds. Now that is a rivalry. Iowa didn't hire Stoops. And Stoops restored the Sooners. So I hate Iowa for being dumb enough to allow Stoops to get hired by Oklahoma. Best I can do.
  10. I have been here the whole time. Most of us have. Otherwise, we wouldn't still be posting. Yes, we complain. We advocate for the coach we like the best. At certain points, I have taken the time to talk about how we shouldn't have fired Frank Solich... in 2003 for God sake! I am sure there are a few VERY few, that think Bill Callahan should have gotten a year or two more. There are a lot more that either think Bo was the best coach to roll with or that Mike isn't. But when the ball is kicked on any given Saturday, almost the entirety of the Husker football fan base rises to their feet as one to cheer this team. Nebraska needs to win just to make it to a bowl. Not a good bowl mind you. Just any bowl. One that we earn with a sixth win. And those are pretty depressing notes. But come Friday, when the chips are down, I want the Huskers to win. Not to spite the Hawkeyes or ruin their season. It's because I want this team to have success. And I want to see them play one more time before the offseason begins. GBR!
  11. Colorado almost, I say almost, beat USC. They are sitting 4-6 with games remaining against Wash State and Utah. Provided the Buffs could upset those two teams... and we beat Iowa, is there a bowl where the Buffs and Huskers could clash. If so, it might be a good luck charm. The last time CU was in a bowl game... Alabama and Saban beat them down... and two years later, the Tide won a national title. Just sayin'
  12. Man, that screen was epic. We didn't gain anything and injured one of our better players, who was already toughing out an injury
  13. Recruiting. We have heard a lot about how Mike can get the best guys and how he is on these big names. Just be patient. Then I read Three Point Stance by Rivals Recruiting guru Mike Farrell and I am less than impressed. He calls it... a Swing and a Miss. https://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1820437 Mike Farrell National Recruiting Director
  14. Trolls used to tell me... Nebraska will never be "back" and I laughed at them. But the last time I felt we had the ability to compete for high stakes and win... 2001. That's 14 years on now. And I look at where we are at... that troll is starting to look smart.

  15. I listen to him and, even though he sucks up to his superiors, (let's face it, most of us do), it is still hard not to like the guy. And to want to believe in him and to want him to do well. And that is part of being a fan. I cheered Tom's Huskers because that's what I do, but when we beat Miami, my joy went beyond the game. Coach was such a good guy. And to have him win the National Championship, well, I thought it was deserved and I was OVER THE MOON to see it come to pass. In the last days of Bo, I really think that if he would have won...we all would have known what was going on behind the scenes. And that would have tainted the whole experience. He would be holding up the trophy in the locker room and saying.... HERE'S YOUR F%%#ing conference championship Nebraska. Now ram it up your a@@. I hate our record. But it is nice to be able to truly like the coach again.
  16. In looking at the many topics, statuses, some linked articles and other places, Facebook, etc., people have spoken about fan apathy.. like it really exsists. It does not at this point. We are all on the Huskerboard talking about it. We all care. We can't stay away. We are all pationate enough to make threads like this one. Matter of fact, people will probably not like this thread because there have been others that touch on some of the same points. It sounds repetitive and they know. They've been reading all the threads. So, if this isn't apathy, you might ask, what is? Look at the baseball forum on this fine site. On the first page of threads, THE FIRST PAGE, you can see a thread about the 2015 baseball schedule and the 2016 baseball schedule. The second of which has ZERO, that's right, ZERO comments, and just 98 views. The Illinois baseball game had 103 comments and 1,763 views. The game thread from Purdue has 1,815 comments and 31,055 views. I can guarantee that before we get halfway into Michigan State week, the Purdue discussion thread will have been pushed to the second page of the forum because people, like me, continue to post new topics. Note that I said the 2015 baseball schedule is still on the front page of the baseball forum. Want to know where the last game of the 2014 season for football is... out bowl game. Well, you'll have to scroll to page 36 of the forum as of right now to see that topic. And, desite the coaches being lame duck and our chances of beating USC seeming slim ... there were 1,655 comments and 30,023 views. The baseball page shows apathy. The football page shows passion. There are a lot of us here that care even if we say we don't care.... even if we really wish we didn't care. So please stop with the apathy talk because until those forums go quiet and until the stadium clears out at half of the football game, apathy doesn't exist. it's getting bad, and I for one know its hard to keep the faith, but, at this point, we are still tuning in and showing up. I hope it never stops. But I also hope we have more wins to encrouage fan devotion. And soon.
  17. Me too True. If you think about it, Bo didn't even have that. He had to replace Sanders and Eckler on the defensive side and revamp the offense by getting rid of Watson etc.
  18. Trying to syay poitive, but Colorado, 4-4, Nebraska, 3-5. That sucks

  19. Lots of negativity right now. And with good cause. Here's a different spin on this year though. Maybe Riley came here hoping to adapt. Maybe he just doesn't know how to change his well established style. So we run with his offensive strategy and his defensive strategy ... even though we lack the players for it. The difficulty of adaptation has been aggravated by injuries throughout the roster. Still, we are so close in so many games. Maybe we upgrade our talent through recruiting. Maybe Coach Riley starts to see big time development next year. With everyone starting "the sky is falling" threads, can we just acknowledge that it could go the other way?
  20. Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions (No. 54) Throughout the preseason, Abdullah was lauded as this tremendous steal who would immediately emerge as a star in the NFL. Some even compared him to Barry Sanders. While his Week 1 performance gave fans reason to be excited, it’s been a completely different story since. So far, Abdullah hasn’t lived up to the hype. http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2015/10/01/20-nfl-rookies-who-are-already-looking-like-disappointments/?utm_campaign=RantSportsFB&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral Ameer by the numbers 14 for 48 6 for 16 13 for 33 8 for 23 6 for 9 7 for 50 AVG 9 for 29 Granted, those numbers are not what Ameer would like to see, but he is a rookie for the love of football. JEEZ. Rookies, as a rule, can not be counted on to be major players. Those who step up and play great their first year in the league are the exception, not the rule. This same web site said that Winston is a bust because he is throwing too many picks as a rookie. Every rookie does that. Also, speaking of QBs, the Detroit attack has always been about the forward pass. For the first three games they have attempted 41, 70, 35, 45, 53, and 30. Really Detroit ... 70 passes in a single game. Not being a Detroit fan, I can’t say for sure, but I am willing to bet a modest amount of cash that Ameer isn’t getting carries in a bunch together over a number of drives. The numbers alone bear that out. And that means that Ameer isn’t getting into any sort of rhythm. If Detroit hates Ameer so much, he can gladly come to my NFL team. And a lot of other fans would say the same.
  21. On a total aside, Seventh Day Adventist is Mormon? I did not know that. Learn something new everyday I guess.
  22. I thought I heard something about Bear Bryant too. Still can't say for sure what Woodlawn is about. Only watched a 30-40 secs of the trailer. The only thing that sprung immediately to mind on just hearing the title was the references to Woodlawn in Live Free or Die Hard. I was pretty sure that didn't have any part of it. LOL So the Woodlawn movie is probably not for me. That's the bad news. Good news...I can still cue up Remember the Titans. For my money, that's probably one of the best football movies of all time.
  23. I didn't realize that until the trailer started to play ... that it was Pure Flux ... When I looked it up, all I knew was the title and that it was about football. As soon as the Pure Flux logo came up I pretty much knew what was coming
