I was thinking the same thing. Wisconsin usually plays disciplined, hard hitting football..they just did not match up with the speed last night. 1 missed tackle and OSU goes 60 yards for a TD time and again.

player development has been and is the Achilles heel of this Riley coached team. Stunning to see what little gains have been made across the board (except maybe the WR's...). It doesnt matter what offense is run, if the O line cant block, there is no change of being successful imo

admittedly, I am on the SF bandwagon big time (and have been for 3 years), but Fuentes would also be a great option. However, I highly doubt he leaves Tech for Huskers. I live in VA and they love him here. Great fan support, good tradition, and a legit P5 team. We will know here soon enough I suppose

Tough, nasty lines and speed everywhere else cures most things...we need more of both regardless of what offense we run

I've coached the zone read before. It is gimmicky. Why? Because it all depends on the play of one single player. See - Urban Meyer and Mark Helfrich are doing so well with their respective ball clubs because their QB play has been lights out. Only with Meyer, his QB play has been lights out with three different guys (which is why he'll be the national COY). Cardale Jones/JT Barrett have been successful in the passing game, which opens up Elliott in the running game. Helfrich has the Heisman Trophy winner at QB who is extremely effective and very DISCIPLINED with the football. He's thrown, what, four picks this year? This offense works if the QB is successful, and execution is PHYSICAL at the point of attack. Go back and look at Elliott's long run in the 4th from last night. Receiver got a huge crackback block. Execution and physicality. Tech runs an OPTION offense, not a spread. The option they run is a very physicial type of offense. But yes, if they don't hit the few passes they throw down the field (see the ACC Championship game), then they are behind the 8 ball. But their offense is based on being PHYSICAL at the point of attack. Five turnovers. Bammer scored 14 off turnovers too. Not saying that game in Pasedena would go any differently if they held on to the football, but Free Shoes been playing with fire all year long. See above. Here's my point I'm trying to make here. Urban Meyer can run that offense because he recruits to run it, and he KNOWS HOW TO RUN IT. Huskers aren't built that way anymore, and can't recruit that way. When the Huskers were contending for championships, other teams (that were running traditional offenses) saw something. They said, "Hey - Nebraska has made a living on this...those guys may be onto something...?" So what'd they do? Start recruiting players like that. That's why you have an Oregon, TCU, Florida that are contending for championships. But again, with that being said.....if you're not successful, you can't recruit to that type of player. Look at the goal-to-go situations for Ohio State in the first half last night. Bammer was slamming the door on them early on. If you can't line up and get 3 to 5 yards from under center, it says something. I just don't like the style of offense because if you don't have the hosses for it - it lacks a physicality to it when you need it late in a game. That's all. EDIT: My argument? Baylor, Auburn, Navy, Arizona, Mississippi State, and yes, Nebraska all run a very similar style of spread offense. All 0-fer. Why? When they needed toughness at a certain point, they only had finesse. I like this post and agree completely.

I would like to see an identity established on offense and a reduction in turnovers and penalties. We really need some O lineman to develop (as well as get more depth at D line). LB depth is not good at all...need some difference makers there. I like our secondary, RB's, TE, and WR's going into next year...none of which works real well without mean and nasty lines (and our "hell in a helmet" line was anything but this year)

harbaugh hire will get michigan back into the elite status within a few years imo. They have talent...they have lacked coaching and scheme. Michigan will again become a smash mouth pro style offense under him I think. Everywhere Harbaugh has been he has had success in turning programs around. I think college works better for him and his style (after 3-4 years the players move on and new recruits come in)...can likely only take getting berated and beat down so much....but always having new players coming into the system will help that. No doubt in mind Michigan will be challenging for B1G championships sooner rather than later (2-3 years). As for our Huskers, I think the new hires will prove to be good....biggest thing is recruiting elite talent (aka D lineman) and then molding them...you can only coach up a 260lb D lineman with average speed so much...need a few more of Collins like players...ideally 6 of them or so. I think Huskers go as far as their offense and defensive lines take them...great lines allow you to do a lot of different things on both sides of the ball

I honestly cannot believe 20 people voted the Pelini era as the one to do without. Callahan was a bum (I couldnt stand him when he coached my Raiders either). He didnt care about Nebraska or any of its traditions and storied past. At least Bo righted the ship, got us to 9-10 wins per year, etc. True the us against the world mentality obviously went overboard and a change was needed, but I always liked his fire and emotions. Nebraska needs to move on and has moved on...hopefully success follows as well as success for Bo.

not sure why I am surprised at the amount of venom toward Bo...I think he spoke his mind and bitched about SE and the admin, but oh well..it happened and nobody should really be surprised by it. I personally like Bo..I like his passion and loyalty and have no doubt he loves his players. The man can coach.....he has had very, very good defenses here (yes, with NFL talent in the secondary and D line....no wonder we are only average now...outside Gerry in the backend, who else could start or compete for any of the top ranked teams...none would be my guess). I dont think he had the talent to run his scheme (as CEO, that falls on him after 7 years though). I think our S&C program is to blame for lack of talent or explosion just as much as recruitng success (or lack there of). Lots of blame to go around on why the defense didnt work at times.. I think being CEO of Huskers Inc was a bit too much for him, and I cant fault him for cracking under the pressure. I have no issues with him calling SE a c***t and a p***y...for those of you that are "appalled" by the language...get real...you really think a locker room and ball field is the same work environment as your cubicle at your 9-5 job? Huskers will move on from this and be just fine...MR seems like a good coach and I can only hope has much better success on the field than he has had in the past at OSU. Hopefully he gets along well with SE and they have a clear vision, because I do think everyone needs to be on the same page to get to where they want to go.....although SE gives me the creeps watching him talk...he 100% acts and talks like an attorney...and there are not many I have met that I like

He will be facing different types of offenses in the B1G. I am personally willing to reserve judgment until after year 1.I agree 100%. Whoever he brings over has more experience than what we had before.Experienced doesn't equal quality.I'd prefer quality. Anything is quality compared to 408 yds rushing 5~7 and 3~9 disagree. Compare the talent levels. Nebraska got its wins because it outtalented teams. Oregon State got its wins because it outcoached teams. Now, what happens when you put great talent and great coaching together? agreed, but would replace "great talent" with "good talent". Watching tOSU the other night, they have "great talent" all over the place. They look the part of a top caliber team (not that that always results in W's), but physically, they look a good bit more talented than the Huskers with the eyeball test IMO

agreed...they have gotten a good bit bigger upfront. On both sides of the ball. The young rb they have is a handful..looks like a grown man out there

1's against 1's in practice has proven beneficial in the past...tagging and half pads sounds like an NFL practice to me. No wonder we missed more tackles than most any other team in the country it seemed

700k for a LB coach...I am way anti SEC, but they way they do it (spending the money), it is no wonder all other conferences are well behind (aside from proximity to talent of course). These hires and their salaries will be interesting to see...like noted in another thread Huskers salaries would have been 10th in the SEC or something like that??? Any hopes of getting back into the elite group needs to start with paying people the money to come here and coach (assuming of course a cohesive unit can be had by hiring all superstars????)

The kid has learned and played under arguably, the greatest collection of football minds of the past generation or two...he played the game at the highest level and by all accounts, is very bright and on an upward track. I would love to have him here as OC, but what about distractions (the prodigal son returning home, etc)? It wouldnt surprise me in the least if he ends up HC somewhere sooner rather than later... I think it is a long shot to be OC here unfortunately

good points on our offense likely not reaching oregon status, but defense isnt too far away imo. Lots of talent there and with some good coaching, I agree they can be up there with Bama and Mich state, etc. I will disagree on Gerry though...the kid can move...ran Melvin Gordon down twice in that game...I dont think a lot of safety's in the country could have done that

new coach seemed a bit nervous at first, but who wouldn't be? I think he did well, and hopefully he brings in a quality coaching team...I am sure some from the Beavers come, but hopefully he goes outside to other contacts as well
