  1. now at -6. Almost like free money...
  2. Bo Pelini was hired December 3, 2007. Mike Riley was hired December 4, 2014. Today's date is November 3, 2015. How hard is this? Well, you must admit that currently it is the wrong hire, right? That is all we have to go on...and the last 30 years of his coaching career. You don't have to constantly reassess your decisions. Did you think Pelini was the wrong hire when he started his tenure 3-3? Many people think you never judge a coach in his first year. I don't remember...but I probably did want him canned. 2 of those 3 losses were to TOP 10 TEAMS. How anyone would want him fired then... The 2008 season cannot even remotely compare to the 2015 season... We went to a bowl and even won! You can most certainly judge a coach by their first year when they are producing the worst season in over half a century!
  3. You can twist that any way you want. 3-6 is still 3-6 at the end of the day. And if you want to say Purdue is better because they beat a terrible Nebraska team, then good for you. Also Wisconsin was far better last year. No Gordon, and no Clement when they played us last...
  4. So we have 1 losing season and now we're not a winning program? There aren't many P5 schools with the tradition, facilities, fan support, etc that we have that have the upside we have as well. Now I know having a lot of upside isn't a good thing but being able to walk into a recruits home and tell them "you can start for 4 years and help re-establish one of the national powers in CFB" has to be enticing. I don't think most 17-18 year old recruits know about our tradition, facilities, fan support etc. We have been out of the spotlight for too long unfortunately. After Callahan's system was installed with better pieces in place he had us going in a decent direction. Recruiting looked good for several years, even though we really never completely turned the corner. I think the 2nd USC game sank that ship. Bo raised the ship from the depths, but also could never fully turn the corner or recruit as well as BC. 2008 We lost to 7th ranked Texas Tech in OT 2009 Close loss to 13th ranked VT The 1 point 1 second loss to Texas 2010 losing to OK in Big12 CG after going up 17-0 If those were wins, we may have been better than 9-10 wins going forward.
  5. Matthau was the original, and by far the better of the 2 BNB coaches.
  6. Who is the last prostyle QB to light the world on fire at any point, let alone as a freshman? Connor is pointed to as a prototype for Riley and Langs, but he's an average QB at the college level. That's what I don't get about those pinning hopes and dreams on POB, who could just as easily be another Harrison Beck or Hackenburg Jameis Winston? yeah, that's a solid example. wonder if he'd fit what Riley was looking for, though. also wonder if it's realistic to expect that from just about anyone else? That FSU team had a perfect storm going for them. I seem to recall them being utterly dominant on defense and ringing up some huge scores on lesser teams (e.g., 80 points on Idaho). Everything starts with strong QB play. Look at FSU this year and what they are struggling with. If we want to contend with the big boys we have to have a SOLID QB First you need a good offensive line. A terrible line makes even the greatest QB look really bad. Remember what happened to Peyton Manning against Nebraska? His line got whipped.
  7. Yeah, I pretty much agree with everything said here. Had Riley been hired six or seven years ago, he would have been a splash hire. When Rich Rod was hired by Michigan, he was thought to have been a splash hire. We've seen plenty of splash hires not work out. I do agree that there really aren't any available guys out there that would be a splash hire for here. I also hope we don't scare away recruits, but I can't say I'd blame a recruit for keeping their distance from Nebraska. Most recruits will spend four to five years of their lives at the college they commit to. When one looks at our current situation, it would be a bit tough to make that sort of commitment. This is a tough question. Pretend you are a recruit for a moment. If Riley is retained, do you want to commit to NU? If Riley is fired, would you commit to NU? I think either choice has its own set of consequences...
  8. We were being blown out by Miami until Golden and penalties let us back into the game. A well coached, disciplined Miami team would have beat us that day by 6 TD's. 42-16...PURDUE was BLOWING us out until they also let us back into the game. How on earth do you get down 42-16 to PURDUE!!!!!????? 55 total points scored by Purdue as well...55!
  9. Ummm...they were actually 100% correct. It wasn't until we upgraded speed at LB etc. that we were competitive against those southern teams in bowls. You must have missed the 8 consecutive (or whatever it was) bowl losses in the 80's to 90's...
  10. Did you watch the Purdue game? The "S-hole" that this coach inherited was 9-4 (and very nearly 10-3) last season. Even Steve Sarkisian passed out on the sidelines of every game as our coach would be better than 3-6 with this team...and I am not joking.
  11. I don't think anyone would argue if you said that we are underachieving. But 10-11 win talent? Really? I would've thought we fell off just a bit, talent wise, from last year's nine win team. And that was before the rash of injuries. Have you looked at this thread lately? LINK The "fire everyone" crowd doesn't care about facts. "9 wins"!!!@!@?@<>#!@#?! is all they care about. just like their hero Bo. What you don't seem to understand is that this has NOTHING to do with Pelini. He's gone. Get over him. The rest of us moved on last November. I supported him up until the Minnesota game last year when it was clear it was time to make a change. My support or concern ended right there. We don't want him back, because we needed someone better than him. What we got was a "never-was" career .500 coach that brought a poor cultural fit, a bunch of would-have-been-fired buddy assistant coaches, and a lassez-faire losing mentality. Riley only took this job because he was going to have to fire Banker to keep his job...at OREGON F$CKING STATE!!! This is about Mike Riley being completely unfit to be head coach at Nebraska, and a tone-deaf administration that valued political appearance over substance and winning football. Losing this team and putting this program at the bottom of the conference is inexcusable. We WILL NOT recover if we allow this to go on any longer. Inaction is a significantly greater risk than action at this stage. We can call a mulligan and it will be less impact in the long term than than allowing Riley, Eichorst and Perlman to finish off what's left of the program. You don't seem to realize that this is all part of a mistake made in 2003 by an arrogant chancellor and an even more narcisstic AD. At some point, we have to address the ROOT CAUSE, and this program will not be "right" again until we have actual leadership on "high." This staff is already a lame duck. No reason to ignore that fact and make the situation worse. ^100% agree!
  12. We already did. This is what year one looks like coming out of the weeds. No. This is what it looks like when you make the wrong coaching hire. Even with Callahan's first year, I didn't necessarily see bad coaching as much as I saw a different philosophy being taught. I am definitely seeing the former as well as terrible coaching which has at a 3-6 record...which is about to get much worse.

"9 wins"!!!@!@?@<>#!@#?! is all they care about. just like their hero Bo. I care about facts. I care about 9 wins. Apparently you're happy with 3 wins. If you care about 9 wins you haven't been a fan for very long. When did 9 wins become the barometer for success? Its an arbitrary number that the old staff used as a measuring tool and didn't think they had to worry about their jobs as long as they hit it. 9 wins is irrelevant. It is far more relevant than 3...
  14. Ha...They just don't want to work for him! Legit question: when considering how Nebraska has done things in the past, would you consider leaving a stable job and joining Riley's staff at season's end? Keep in mind, we fired Solich after he revamped his staff. Excellent question and it was a terrible, terrible mistake...
  15. Can we all just agree that we aren't going to do this anymore? Canning Pelini, justly, and hiring Riley are two different things. One was a correct decision, and the other was not. I completely agree with you on the canning Pelini / hiring Riley thought. It drives me crazy when people act like we had to fire Pelini or hire Riley. We had lots of options as far as who we hired, but apparently didn't look at any of them. Can we all just agree that we aren't going to do this anymore? 16. Bo as a first year coach took a demoralized team and turned them around right away. There were many opportunities to turn that proverbial corner, but never quite pulled it off. So close...but it unfortunately didn't happen. The expectation that we had this year was to avoid blowout losses and have a respectable season. The Purdue loss WAS a blowout as we were down 42-16 at one point. This season so far has gone far worse than any of the doomsday predictions even the most pessimistic fans had. I'm not sold on Frost being a HC yet.
  17. YES, THEY ARE. The sad thing is, we are even worse.
  18. Want awards and look all conference? Well, you play the 2015 Cornhuskers... Thanks Coach Riley...
  19. Lets go back a few years to 2013. Purdue was 1-4 when we went to West Lafayette. Armstrong threw for 3 interceptions and really struggled. Walk-on Kellogg had to come in to relieve Armstrong. The score 44-7. Purdue's 2013 squad was bad but played MSU relatively close. Purdue's 2015 squad is just as bad and, well...you know what happened. Enough with the excuses. We just suffered our worst loss in 50+ years. Hiring Riley was a mistake of epic proportions. This staff is clearly in WAY over their heads and it is not going to improve this season or the next. There is going to be an exodus of current players as well as commits if nothing is done about this. This year, we had a very easy schedule, but next year things could get even uglier if we retain this staff.
  20. Why limit this to a single player? It seems several of our better players have had a tough year. Collins? Valentine? Banderas? Lewis? Newby?
  21. What did Riley do with his "macy's" staff at OSU? These players won 9 last year. This is a coaching issue.
