  1. Awesome view of the play, Knapp. Thanks for posting! Boy, Tommy really got wiped out right after he threw. I found a segment that the DB had his left arm up in front of Reilly running towards the sideline at an angle. The ref felt that the DB made contact to the WR towards the sideline edging him. The first view they give is from the camera from behind, replay about the ten yard line it seems that he went out on his own and Rilley comes back to the field of play. Then in the same video the next view is from the sideline camera, notice where the arms of the DB is positioned to keep contact with Rielly, contact established. The DB did not know where the ball was at any time. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/11/nebraska-stuns-unbeaten-michigan-state-on-controversial-final-play Scroll down and look to your right for the first video............................................. The headline says MSU loses on "controversial final play" It wasn't the final play. It was second down. Poor reporting on that fact. I know the headline was misleading by USA, they duplicate what they get through the sports wire. My main objective is to let others know of this angle view of contact for that play. Thanks for sharing that angle of view. My seats are in the East Stadium, so that was a view I didn't have access to at the stadium. The replays in the stadium picked up the play after Reilly had gone out of bounds. I don't read USA Today, so the comment on the headline was just an observation on the perception that this was the final play and the Huskers only chance to pull off the victory.

  3. Looks to me like they were a top ten team last week. Where is your poll posted? AP Top 25 RK TEAM REC PTS TREND 1 Ohio State(39) 8-0 1465 — 2 Baylor(6) 7-0 1408 — 3 Clemson(6) 8-0 1381 — 4 LSU(5) 7-0 1346 — 5 TCU(4) 8-0 1336 — 6 Michigan State 8-0 1249 — 7 Alabama(1) 7-1 1160 — 8 Notre Dame 7-1 1019 1 9 Stanford 7-1 1014 1 10 Iowa 8-0 954 —
  4. The rule doesn't say pushed out, it says forced out. I'm guessing the pass pattern on the play in the playbook doesn't show the receiver going out of bounds and then coming back in. The db forced Reilly out of bounds but he came back in. A receiver loses his eligibility by leaving the field of play unless he was forced out by a defensive player and immediately attempts to get back inbounds (Rule 7-3-4). By the way, this was a second down play. If they call the pass incomplete, we still have 17 seconds and at least two plays to get the touchdown.
  5. Purdue isn't as bad as people would have us think, and I'm sick of hearing all the talking heads telling us the Huskers are more athletic and talented than our opponents. Although the Boilermakers were beaten by Minnesota, they played the Spartans to within a field goal. But what about the Huskers... Who are our play makers? Do we have an offensive lineman who could even block an artery? Can we get one turnover in a game like this?
  6. Those losses are to many of the same teams we lost to this year. Was Iowa State in 2009 a powerhouse? Was Northwestern better in 2011 when they ran it down our throats than they were last Saturday? We beat Wisconsin by 3 in 2012, then lost to them 70-31.
  7. Just an observation: This season we have 5 losses by a total of 13 points In 2014 we lost 4 games by a total of 47 points including a 35 point blowout In 2013 we lost 4 games by a total of 68 points In 2012 we lost 4 games by a total of 84 points including 25 point and 39 point blowouts In 2011 we lost 4 games by a total of 79 points with 31 and 28 point losses In 2010 we lost 4 games by a total of 25 points (7,3,3,12) In 2009 we lost 4 games by a total of 25 points (1, 21, by 2 to Iowa St, and 1 in the last second) In 2008 we lost 4 games by a total of 80 points with 35 point and 34 point blowouts The way I feel right now, I guess I see us as really close. We aren't getting blown out (yet),
  8. The Huskers had more success with the screen pass against Minnesota. Against Wisconsin, there was a screen with three blockers and only two Badger defenders. The only block was by the referee! The 3 Husker linemen all whiffed. Also Tommy's passes in the screen game were better. Hope this improvement continues.
  9. Chatelain from OWH on Sunday pointed out the improvement by NU from the past two games against the Gophers: "The past two years, Minnesota exposed Nebraska for what it was: a team too soft to win the Big Ten West. Sure, the Huskers had playmakers, but when it came down to crunch time and they needed to push the line of scrimmage, they couldn’t. In 2013, Minnesota rushed 54 times for 271 yards against NU. It held the ball for 35:37. It sacked Taylor Martinez four times. In 2014, Minnesota rushed 53 times for 281. It held the ball for 34:39. It sacked Tommy Armstrong four times." As for all the talk about not fielding a punt; the sun was brutal. Better to let the punt roll than try to field a football you can't see. Even though the Gophers downed the ball at the 1 yard line, the Huskers reeled off a 99 yard scoring drive!
  10. clock didn't start on the onsides kick, even though it was touched.
  11. I was also disappointed that the Cougar receiver, Nick Kurtz (5), was not flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after his catch in the first quarter. I believe the WH had a photo of the exchange in the paper on Sunday. Seemed the officials were not in mid-season form for this game either.
  12. I've missed the past three because I'm coaching HS sports on that Saturday. I wasn't too disappointed the past few years The red/white, white/red, white/white uniforms and divisions of the teams was disappointing. Would love to be there this Saturday, but coaching duties again stop me from attending.
  13. Tim Miles gave a talk, I think it was at a coaches' clinic, or a booster meeting. He said "Sometimes you just gotta flush the turd, or it will stink up the whole place." He was talking about a certain player on the basketball team. Dropped the kid and turned the season around. SE had to flush the turd. The toxic environment was too much. Maybe Bo was an energy vampire?
  14. There might have been an In and Out in Omaha years ago. Every burger is made BEFORE you order it. You can't get one without mustard. My son hated, (and still hates) mustard. They couldn't make one without it. Jumped the curb and drove away in my Jeep when they couldn't get me a burger without mustard. Not a big fan of the actual Runza (meal in a bun-za) but their hamburgers and onion rings are the best.
  15. Husker football connects generations in my family. My grandfather fought in WWII, and went to college on the GI bill. Became an accountant, and bought season tickets in the East Stadium in the early 50's. My dad went to NU on the GI bill in the late 50's. He got his own season tickets in the North Stadium when it opened. I went to my first game before I was born. I started going to games before they were the "Big Red" before Bob Devaney and the sell-out streak and NC's. Sitting with my grandparents in the East Stadium is one of my most treasured memories. I remember taking a nap on the wooden ramp cover above our seats. The first game I clearly remember is South Dakota in 1964, 56-0 Huskers. I also have a degree from NU. I now sit in the same East Stadium seats my grandfather used 60 years ago. My wife and I go to games and sometimes take my son and his wife, or my daughter and her husband. I look forward to taking my granddaughter and grandson to their first game in the next few years.
  16. Is it just me, or does the constant pressure, and pushing and slapping and shoving just numb the officials into not calling the contact by Cincy? We used to play a team in HS that pressed the entire game. Their coach said "the refs just can't call all the fouls we commit."
  17. It's not on the Husker website yet.
  18. Don't forget Bruce Mathison, spent 5 years in the NFL. Also current Roncalli coach Ed Burns, played for the saints
  19. As much as we got beat on the edge this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3-4 or a 5-2 alignment, at least against certain opponents. We gave up too many plays where the DE got pinned inside and we were trying to set the edge with an undersized corner.
  20. The part about playing favorites is interesting. I agree that the kids that aren't starting many times feel that the coach is playing favorites with the starters. The thing I noticed over the past 7 years was that when a starter made a mistake, got a stupid penalty or got burned, there seemed to be no consequence. How many times did Jake Cotton come out of the game after yet another false start? Bo seemed to keep Martinez in the game no matter what. As a coach, if I see a guy not doing what we need, I sit him down. I don't scream at him for 15 minutes, but at some point, if and when I send him back in, I give him a little pep talk about playing smart, or not repeating the same mistake that got him yanked in the last series.
  21. At least now I can get back to work
  22. Nothing to see here, move along. Usually it's way easier to apologize than ask permission.
  23. Bo did turn things around after BC. My best Bo memory --- I was eating dinner with my wife in a restaurant at 84th and Van Dorn in Lincoln a couple of months ago. Bo and his family were also there. A little girl in a Steelers jersey asked Bo for an autograph. He was very gracious to the girl. I overheard him say he was a Steelers fan growing up. Nice moment. The owner of the restaurant came up and talked to Bo for a few minutes, and then the Pelini's left. I asked for the check from our waitress. She said Bo had paid for everybody's dinner! I guess the owner comped Bo's meal, so he paid the favor forward.
