  1. You answered your own question: the playoff has left out two teams that have, throughout the season, proven that they can be champions of a Power 5 conference. If you look at the SOS from last year, Alabama was ranked #6. Now, this wouldn't be an issue, if Ohio State (Big Ten Champ) wasn't at #3. I would enjoy the hell out of it, but there would be serious issues of legitimacy if a 12-0 Alabama team loses to that 8-4 Florida team in my previous example.
  2. You get into issues of dilution when you get past 8, but I agree with the sentiment. I ultimately think 8 is the way to go, but the argument for 6 is very compelling.
  3. You can't win it unless you're in it, and 8 makes it easier to get in.
  4. I don't understand how adding four more deserving teams to the playoff devalues the regular season? You still have to be in the top 10 to have a realistic shot at making an 8 team playoff. Conference champions generally don't have an "average/poor record", due to the fact that they would have to either win a division plus a CCG, but that is accounted for by adding 3 at-large teams. So, if an 8-4 Florida manages to beat 12-0 Alabama, there's room for both teams. You answered your own question: there will always be an argument for the first team left out, whether it's #3, #5, #9 or #17. #5 has a much better argument than any of the others left out. Each conference goes back to 8 games, and you add a second bye week. Bowl games don't mean much of anything anyways. And, you would actually add value to 4 more bowls if you make the quarterfinals take place at bowl sites/games. This has never made a difference in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, College Basketball, College Baseball, or anything not named College Football. 8 teams means that anyone that the general public thinks is overrated has an opportunity to either prove them wrong, or prove them right. And, the prestige that comes with making a playoff would benefit up and coming programs (imagine what it would have done for TCU a few years ago, or UCF last year). Again, this isn't an issue in virtually any other sport. Besides, the likelihood of that is slim, and as there are contingencies to account for this in the NCAA Tournament, one could assume similar contingencies could be made to stave off a third meeting between teams until as late as possible. College football isn't the same as college basketball; late season momentum doesn't matter as much, particularly in the case of a football playoff. Generally, the best teams are going to be present at the end of the year. The obvious argument is UCF/Auburn from last year. One could imagine the tone and tenor of that game if it were a CFP quarterfinal as opposed to a Peach Bowl. "Oh woe is me; I have to watch more football" is something I don't think I've ever said. Fans will travel, ESPECIALLY Nebraska fans. I would like to see quarterfinal games be played on the higher seed's campus, though.
  5. Downloaded "Enter the Gungeon" last night on my Switch. It's a load of fun, but holy hell, it's hard.
  6. He's not on a D-1 roster this year; LCU probably has little to do with that, but clearly his reputation precedes him.
  7. In a lot of ways, I enjoyed this season more than seasons 1 and 2. For as blustery as Coach Brown is, it's easy to see he cares much more about his players than Buddy ever did. That, and I actually wanted Independence to win, as opposed to wanting EMCC to lose. Malik Henry, though....I think he's going to come out worse for wear from this. Throughout the season, he's incredibly petulant and disrespectful, but there's a scene in the last episode that gives great insight into exactly who he is: an immature kid with a man's talent for football, unable to handle struggle and failure, being pushed into playing football by a father living vicariously through his son's right arm all while not having the self confidence in himself to do what he actually wants to and quit.
  8. I've helped that group out from time to time keeping Nebraska updated. Their rosters are great, but for some reason they think Tristan Gebbia is faster than Adrian Martinez this year.
  9. Confession: I don't get how people enjoy the game of golf.

Watching golf is a good excuse for a nap. Playing golf is good if you've got way too much time and money and you want to get rid of both.

Let's call it what it is...fetch for rich people.

At least it's dying out somewhat. It got a bump for a while back when Tiger Woods was on top of the game, but it's been on the decline for the last decade or so. Wouldn't break my heart in the slightest to see some urban golf courses closed and the land put to better use.

  10. You have spectacularly missed the point.
  11. The first Ant Man was funny, but there wasn't enough balance to Scott's humor; AM&TW (and Lilly, in particular) fixed that.
  12. Are we sure this doesn't go in the "Bump when drunk" thread?
  13. Ant Man and The Wasp - 8/10. Solid plot and action; a nice "palate cleanser" of sorts for the MCU after Infinity War. I liked it better than Ant Man; AM and Wasp work better as protagonists together than just Ant Man on his own. Plus, it has a better villain. Excellent mid and post credits scenes, too. (I did a couple searches for a topic like this, but couldn't find one; if there is, please merge this with it.)
  14. If you enjoyed old school Sonic games, get Sonic Mania Plus. DLC just came out for it, adding two new characters and a remixed story mode. It's well worth a purchase if you enjoyed the older games.
  15. We aren't taking anything from anyone: he's choosing to transfer.
  16. On the flip side, someone like James Gunn makes off color/blue jokes, apologizes and shows true contrition and growth when called out for these jokes, then up and gets fired nearly 10 years later because some alt-right asshole doesn't like that he tweets at Trump all the time.
  17. Oh FFS, James Gunn.

did Fox post the whole feed to get the context of his tweets or did they just post his "offensive" tweets?

(pretty sure the link said Fox)

@desertshox I haven't seen any reports from Fox, but the person who originally posted the tweets provided no context, let alone proof of Gunn's apologies and contrition since these were posted.

Yeah, the reason the tweets were left up was because Gunn didn't want to hide from his past--he acknowledged it, apologized for it, and moved on. He was (and is) pretty candid about all of that.

Also, there's an online petition circulating to reinstate James Gunn that's at 160,000+ signatures, and there's been rumblings that most, if not all of the GotG cast may take a powder if Gunn isn't involved in some capacity. Plus, Gunn was the one that not only has the first (and only draft) of GotG 3, he was going to be taking on a larger role in overseeing the next phase of Marvel movie development.

Also, Disney is rather quiet about all of this...makes me wonder if they'll walk this back in some capacity--after all, they're still making money off Powder, right?

  18. Dave Heineman is on the team this year?
  19. Even with two 8 team divisions, you would play them every year; you would get 7 division games and 2 crossovers.
