  1. Interesting views on McDermott expressed in here. I turned to my buddy numerous times last night and said, "well, hard to stop that. Dammit...that kid is good, gotta admit." Seeing him in person, he's bigger than I thought. And what makes him good is that he just seems to intuitively know how to get the ball in the basket. It's not pretty a lot of the times...he scores a lot of workmanlike baskets in the paint. You don't get additional points for aesthetics though. And he's got range, obviously. Honestly, we all know that game was pretty much going one way about ten minutes into the first half. At one point, we were trailing by a decent margin, and someone (Talley, maybe? Who had a tough game, btw) hit a three, and Doug marches down court and IMMEDIATELY drains a three, just steps up and swishes it like he was taking a drink of water. I'm a Husker guy period. From my vantage point, Doug McDermott is the real deal. He might not be a back to back national AA, but the kid isn't overhyped. He's legit. This season will be tough. A huge percentage of our offense is going to have to be supplied by Talley and Gallegos. And when we start playing the really good teams, both of those guys are going to be hot for us to pull out a win. Last night neither guy had his game going, and we see the result. We've got three kids redshirting who would play substantial minutes if they could this season, and we'll be bringing in an upper tier guard next season. Guys....we're gonna have to do our best to force ourselves to be patient this year. But I think we all knew that anyway. EDIT: I didn't mean Creighton isn't one of those really good teams, btw. I mean, that's basically what played out. Dylan struggled offensively and Gallegos didn't do much. (And he was confusingly kept off the court quite a bit, I thought anyway.)
  2. Yeah, what the hell was I reading? I think I was trying to respond to something else, and got screwed up or something. What you wrote was totally reasonable. Haha....I'm an idiot. And that was your first post here too, wasn't it?! God, I suck. Well, welcome to HuskerBoard. We hate everyone. +1 for the horrible welcome. Sorry about that!
  3. There are more inaccurate statements in this post that seem possible within the number of words that you used. Gene Chizik won a NC two years ago, and he's currently out of a job. Bo was brought in with defense specifically in mind, and this year featured some pretty dubious, historically bad defensive performances. (See my past posts about Bo regarding my impression of him. I've been very, very supportive, and remain so.) So please spare me the nonsense about how coaching at Nebraska is like being trapped in a rusty cage with thousands of snarling, starving words surrounding you for as far as the eye can see. Ridiculous, baseless assertion.
  4. I'd +100 if I could on this. These are exactly my sentiments. Yep. I used the only one I could on it too. Could not have summed up my thoughts any better. It would have been like 6 long, dragging, endless paragraphs. And we've all seen enough of those (Unfortunately, there will be more to come. Try as I might, succinct expression just continues to elude me.) *One note: I thought Eichorst coming in could lead us down this path. Wouldn't have bet on it, wasn't even strongly suspecting Pelini may not be the guy going forward after Tom stepped aside...it was more of a whisper in the back of my mind that I filed away. I don't want Bo to leave, but...well...Nexus already said it.
  5. Might as well get it started...unless I'm an idiot and missed another thread already started. If so, delete and disregard. Just like my wife does. I don't know about you guys, but I'm jacked up for this game. The Bob is going to be electric...there will be an awful lot of Creighton fans there too, so the potential for a wild environment definitely exists. (Unless CU comes out and stomps on NU early and never let the Huskers get into the game. Which, let's be honest, could happen.) I don't hate Creighton, and I always bristle at the people who think they get to tell you who you can and can't root for. I have no problem with an NU football/CU basketball fan like Po, or other people who root for both basketball programs. I'm an NU guy though, and I'm hoping (probably against logic) that Nebraska can make this a competitive game, and hopefully even steal this one from their (admittedly) superior in-state rival. Thoughts on the game, guys? Creighton gonna run away with this one? Or can Talley and Gallegos keep supplying the offense and Eche...Eche...Gregory find himself getting neutralized a little bit by Mt. Almeida? (Almeida wears down though. He'll be rotated out a decent amount, and while Ubel has played pretty darn well, Creighton's big man is a handful. Ubel might get out-muscled quite a bit...although, it's crazy how much stronger Brandon has gotten since he came in as a toothpick freshman.) Also, a simple plea from me: Don't be bagging on Po or anybody else pulling for Creighton, please? Nothing wrong with being a Jays fan. It just means you're a Communist and you hate America. (Just kidding!) GBR!!!!
  6. YES. I want Nebraska to become a player on the national scene in basketball SO bad...and these are the kinds of kids we need to commit. Awesome!
  7. Man, that is absolutely ridiculous. I know you can more than take care of yourself, I'm just sorry your kid was there to see it. That sucks. And no...I actually don't think it would've mattered if your kid was in the car or not. I get the sense that had you been alone, your first unedited verbal exchange with this complete piece of garbage would've been sufficient to back him off. I don't know why, but I bet you're pretty intimidating when you're pissed. Then again, this is an Iowa fan we're talking about. Sorry again man...what a sad, pathetic person. I bet his life is miserable.
  8. You don't get slack for your own poor decisions I wasn't asking you, dingleberry.
  9. Bo's been here five seasons. Been to three CCGs over that span. I was talking about his entire tenure. But yeah, 3 in the last 4 is accurate. I misunderstood, but, in my defense, I did drink an irresponsible amount of alcohol this weekend. So cut me some f'ing slack.
  10. If Bo goes by way of firing, you can forget about who you want to replace him because they ain't coming. 3 CCG appearances in five seasons (3 in 4 years as some have described it is murky semantic maneuvering, imo) and a ten win season is more than enough to earn more time. If he's let go, we're pretty much out of consideration for any up and coming or established big time coach. Solich was let go almost a decade ago, but people still reference his record when he was let go to this day. SI had an article on him and Ohio and they hit that angle pretty hard just a couple months ago. Now, if he goes of his own volition, that's a whole different story. And I'm not saying I hope that happens. I'm just saying if he gets fired after this year, get ready to start paying a lot more attention to Darin Erstad and Tim Miles.
  11. Dobson ain't the problem. Slow LBs and middling line play are our biggest hindrances. Not a hell of a lot Dobson can do to make Whaley be not slow, or make PJ Smith learn how to tackle. We need higher caliber athletes in the trenches and at LB. As far as the LBs go, we might have done with last year's class and Santos the year prior. D-Line is another story. I see potential for some mediocre play out of that unit again next year. Martin was the only disruptive guy we had, really. So...sh#t.
  12. Well....that was fun, 'eh guys? I'm seriously debating cracking open a beer. I'm aware it's ten in the morning. What is your point?

I'm drinking whiskey before offseason conditioning. I'm going to die today.

  13. I'm as pissed as anyone here, believe me. But anyone advocating the firing of a coach who makes 3 CCG in 5 years better be on board with NEVER being considered by a coach with any real talent EVER again. People nationally still reference Solich's record. Keep that in mind, during your rage. I'm flat out downing some Benadryl and waving goodbye to this travesty. Ugh..So pissed.

Bo is saying that this loss is on him. IMO he is throwing the defense under the bus and the way they played is on him.

Sorry but Bo needs to go. He obviously can't get his team ready for big games, his team continues to turn the ball over atleast once every game and the penalties. plus he hires his friends as coordinators instead of getting seasoned people. he can't recruit that well and it shows on the field. any competent coach would have fixed these errors but not bo. just ignore them like they never happen. sorry but I thought we were passed the ass kicking stage of Bo's career but I gue...

  15. In answer to the question about a third party, my answer is no. We need five or more viable parties. If that sounds ridiculous, I'll simply counter with what we currently have in place. Having three firmly entrenched parties would eventually get stuck in the same mire of regurgitating the same scripted party line over and over and over again. We need fresh blood, and a lot of it. The old system is stagnant and contaminated with old moldy corpses who are still somehow managing to reach their skeletal fingers into our pockets. We need massive diversity to truly infuse a fresh sense of ideological resurgence in this country. Repubs have a serious, serious problem. They have far less flexibility in terms of their philosophical approach because they have hung their hat on religiously guided moral grounds in numerous instances. This is now killing them. An example is a guy like Dick Cheney, who is not in a frame on my desk. But I do believe he loves his daughter...I've seen him talk about her, and in that isolated instance he came across like a pretty decent guy. But he could never advocate a pro-homosexuality stance while sitting in an active political role. What do Republicans even stand for? I honestly don't know anymore. One of the fundamental defining aspects used to be limited government, but that sure as hell isn't the case anymore. So, are they hamstrung to basically taking a Jonathan Edwards position? I think people are awfully sick and tired of R politicians imperiously declaring themselves the proper judges of morality. They need a brand new approach, and they need to distance themselves from the Evangelical crowd and Tea Party rallies, because that group got hijacked by morons. They actually started out as pretty damn reasonable, really. But...(and this is so typical) they were infiltrated and overrun by the hyperbolic self-aggrandizing type of people who also flooded into Occupy. Somehow the loud idiots in our country consistent;y manage to effectively drown out the reasonable voices. And then all of a sudden Glenn Beck is talking, and you're like, why haven't I killed myself yet? So, yeah, R's need a full on re-branding. WE need a fluctuating base of parties that gain affiliation and support not based off of habit, but rather of ideologies expressed. I am ardently, equally critical of both the Democratic and Republican party. They're BOTH an embarrassment.
  16. Word life, son! Where's the mofuckin Zima? I meant semen. Err, meant peelin? Like, that awful fifth of Chernobyl brand vodka some idiot bought that seems to be the only garbage left around this goddamn travesty of a an early evening? It peels paint, lacerates my organs, and gives daddy what he needs. The Peelin'. And: The anger fuel I need to complete my project in the garage. What project? Secret. Super secret. It involves rolling my own cigarette, but the magic trick is that I have no tobacco, and I don't know how to roll things. (I believe I've found an acceptable alternative.) So, mutation liquor should help shore this thing up. It's running at least as effectively as your average Pentagon project.
  17. I like Imani, I really do. But I'd FAR rather see Abdullah, a healthy Rex, and way more Braylon than we've gotten so far over Cross. Those three all bring extra yardage potential that Cross simply lacks at this stage of his career. But I love seeing him get the ball on 1st and goal from the 2. And he's a pup. Wait till he grows into that frame. Good.....lord.
  18. After Curt Dukes, Sam Keller, Joe Dailey, and Harrison Beck, you'd think we might be more inclined to appreciate Martinez than we do. For a kid who was playing in the secondary until his junior year of high school, I'd say it's pretty remarkable what he's achieved here. It's a testament to the guys coaching him as well. Say what you want about Taylor, but it's awfully hard to argue that he has improved markedly as a quarterback. And before you smirk and reply "that's not saying much," keep in mind that we played for a conference championship his first season as a starter. He wasn't devoid of talent as a freshman. He sure had some holes in his game though...most first year starters do. He's come a long way. And as knapp and other's have already pointed out, he's still got over a season before his total body of work can be accurately perceived. From where I stand, he's a guy that makes every opposing DC nervous. That's something I like our starting QB to bring to the table. The coaches thought enough of his game to vote him 1st team all conference after all. And they've watched a LOT of film on the kid.
  19. Iowa fan's attitude is systemic of unrelenting disappointment. You end up ridiculing or raging against that which you covet yet keeps eluding you. Ridicule is healthier, and endless rage is unsustainable anyway. "Five National Champs, har!" -Any Iowa Message Board Ever When NU Fans are Referenced. Hawkeye fans are relegated to making fun of us for something they'd have killed for. If Iowa could change time and take our years from the 70s to now they would without blinking, but they can't. So they have nothing left but making disparaging comments about...our accomplishments. That's kinda depressing. The anti Black Friday thing is laughable, too. That has to be more about ending a long time tradition for us than about a benefit for them...right? Or do they really not want the heightened exposure of playing on a day featuring few other games, when most people have work off? Don't they want Iowa Hawkeye football in the spotlight? They'll argue the latter...that they want the extra day and the lack of a full week is a detriment. Maybe what they truly want is camouflage. In the form of Mich-OSU, perhaps. Their side supplied the acrimony coming in to our annual game. Nebraska fans haven't thought much about Iowa over the last century or so. It's just the truth. I see the push to move the game to the anonymity that Saturday will offer as basically an admission that this so called rivalry is going to be pretty one sided.
  20. Odd answer for me, potentially. The team I dislike the most, unequivocally, is Ohio State. I was thrilled when they beat Miami for the NC years back, (although everyone knows Miami ate a bad call that left the door open for the Buckeyes.) Since then, I've been ardently anti-OSU. I hate, hate, HATE that team. Conversely: I really like the fans of the program I've come into contact with. They're knowledgeable, approachable, reasonable, and almost noticeably devoid of arrogance. This isn't a massive sample size I'm culling my opinion from, but I actually randomly was in Cleveland last weekend and met a bunch of OSU fans there, too. I made damn sure to wave the NU flag in OSU country, and I was approached by a good handful of Buckeye fans. All of them are unapologetic about OSU, meaning, they know they're good and they aren't afraid to acknowledge that. But it isn't boastful so much as predicated on hard fact and stats and referencing specific games. I'd honestly love to see Urban Meyer get exposed as the self-adulating douchebag he is, and I root against them every single time they play, but their fans are quality people from my interactions with them. Really, some of the best people to talk CFB with, at least in my experience. Iowa fans are a bitter, unlikeable lot. I wish them lots of kidney stones and promiscuous daughters. Unlike the majority of OSU loyalists I've come across, many of their fans are delusional and are seemingly incapable of cordial discourse. Penn State gets a strong nod, too. I'm sick of the makeshift memorial being placed where Paterno's statue was removed. Evidence strongly shows that a pedophile was enabled. It's not Penn State's fault as a community or university. There are bad people everywhere. But the whole, "the world is out to get us" thing is woefully misguided. Really, there was a guy "out to get, meaning, out to abuse children" and someone you all respected apparently did shockingly little to make sure the accusations were investigated to the fullest extent. That's reprehensible beyond description. Defiantly wear your Paterno shirts all you want., but just know that all you're doing is making the scar on your university a little darker for a little longer. Again: Penn State is not synonymous with that horrific crime. A small circle of people are responsible for what happened. You should despise them, not defend them. That baffles me. I'd suggest rallying behind what O'Brien and your boys did this year. They deseve your support, which they do receive. But the guy some (many?) of you still revere? He turned his head, folded his hands, and averted his gaze while the sexual abuse of children occurred. We love football as much if not more than anyone here in Nebraska. I'd honestly bet enough money that would hurt if I lost it that if the situation were reversed, Husker fans would universally denounce someone who didn't do all they could stop a monster that was hunting in our own backyard. I like Michigan. Bizarre. I always have. (Because I see a fair amount of similarities between us, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that '97 belongs to us, which is supported by the fact that we got the real trophy, and they got...like, a gift certificate to Denny's or something. Plus the love of Lee Barfknecht, which is like having the undying admiration of the Jonas Brothers or something equally flaccid.) And to clarify, it's a passive form of "like." I don't celebrate their wins or bemoan their losses by any means, especially now that we directly compete with them for the division. In fact, now I root against them, because a loss for them is a win for NU. And time may change my opinion. Mich fans seem to be unanimously reviled in B1G country. Maybe there is a good reason.
  21. Who has a good book recommendation for me? Specifically, I need to read more American authors. That is, outside of Steinbeck, Vonnegut, any of the Beats, (which doesn't really include Kesey but I've got him pretty much covered too.) I've never really read any Hawthorne, Faulkner, Hemingway...something along those lines. I need to broaden my horizons...enlighten me HB!
  22. Speed...I specifically meant to tell you happy birthday last April, after you set me up with that Brazilian gymnast who had literally NO morals last year, but I missed it. Dammit! (Nah, but you did send me a pm wishing me happy birthday, which I appreciated. I meant to reciprocate, but mission failure. So, thanks again brother, and I'll catch you this time around.) MLB, thanks man! I'd tell you to behave, but that's like telling walks to be timid. Ain't happening. Thanks again! And you too HNNick, thanks for the happy birthday wishes, and the same to you bud! 26? You suck. (Just kidding.) Hope you had a good one. You're young enough to rebound pretty easily still. I...am screwed tomorrow. Thanks again all. My birthday is totally meaningless to me this year, basically has been since I hit 28. (27 is the death year, so I dodged that one.) I care WAY more about Saturday than today, tbh. What the hell happened to mmmtodd, btw? He was a solid poster, pretty funny guy if I remember correctly...
