  1. I understand your concern about Frost maybe being "too similar" to Chip Kelly in terms of offense system. However, I think Frost is his own coach, and will be able to mold his offensive beliefs to his roster, his opponents, and other factors. I think Frost would be smart enough to say that he would say that he couldn't run the same thing at Oregon, UCF, or Nebraska. They are 3 different schools, in 3 different conferences, with 3 different pools of available talent.
  2. All that communication can be done by Moos and Frost's agent. Frost's agent wouldn't be doing his job if he weren't taking calls from various schools on behalf of Scott.
  3. Either way, it's not a good statistic for Riley.
  4. Spielman would be a pretty darn good slot-receiver in a spread oriented offense. Not that he’s not good now, but if he was able to operate in more space it would be pretty special.
  5. Weekly positive reinforcement time:  NU can't lose this weekend!!!

Just wanted to add a little extra to your cereal.

Somewhere, Mike Riley just read this statement and asked someone on staff to hold his latte.

“Can’t” lose this weekend? Me thinks somebody is way overestimating this staff’s clock management skills.

  6. To be fair, I understand it's not a "requirement", but unless you can recruit top linemen, top WR's, and top RB's, it's pretty much a requirement. The margin for error at the other offensive positions with a statue QB is so slim.
  7. Alabama also gets the most talent in college football every year, and they have switched to a dual-threat QB when they could pretty much get any QB they want to.
  8. I wish I could give that 1,000 plus 1's. I think we can use Rileyed as a synonym for Munsoned.
  9. I think there were other candidates interviewed, but those candidates were kept confidential to protect them in their current job. With the help of a search firm and Bounds & Green knowing what they wanted, it's not hard to have a few key candidates identified quickly and go through the process in a few weeks. The timing of the hire gives Moos a little over a month with the Athletic Department before he will (most likely) fire Riley and bring in the new head coach. I am sure Moos is already working through agents of coaches he would like to hire.
  10. Those promises are made to be broken. Unless it’s a national championship game or playoff, Frost isn’t staying to coach in a meaningless bowl game.
  11. They won’t wait until after the New Year to hire Frost. They will have Frost (or any other coach) hired as soon as they can, and have that new coach come aboard to start recruiting, especially with the early signing period now available in December.
  12. Are people trying to downplay Frost so he doesn't come to NU and fail, and then we would be like "now what"? As numerous people have pointed out, Frost appears to be in the generation of coaches in their 40s who are ready to be the next group of good/great coaches over the next 10-20 years. He has the pedigree, has the assistant coach experience, and is now getting the head coaching experience.
  13. While UCF wasn't a typical 0-12 team, that is still a really bad team. Plus it's not like UCF is head and shoulders more talented than other teams in their conference, but Frost has them kicking team's asses. That includes a Big Ten team (Maryland) on the road. Frost is getting that team to play with confidence and swagger which goes beyond the talent.
  14. I don't have an issue with not redshirting guys, but just use them once the redshirt is burned. I am sure that most of them are used in special teams, but if the top units aren't performing, then the coaches might as well use the true freshmen in regular offense and defense.
  15. I have finally watched the Ohio State game.  Wow, I didn't expect it to be that ugly.  NU offered no resistance on either side of the ball.

They treated it like a scrimmage, we treated it like we were an FCS Patsy that just got mad paid.

At least now you can see how well Spielman played and what we were all talking about in the 200 yard thread.

Correct, @HuskerInLostWages I did like how Spielman played.  He seemed like the one player out there who was giving a f*ck about the game.  I was wrong about my "garbage time" stats comment.

  16. Patrick Witt? He had already redshirted in 2007.
  17. My roster mismanagement issues goes beyond wasting redshirts. 1. In 3 years at NU, there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason on the RB rotation or who gets bulk of carries 2. I have accepted that Cav won't rotate linemen, but why did it take injuries for Decker and Jamies to get the starting jobs at linemen positions this year. I think there have been other years where Cav hasn't always played the best linemen. 3. In correlation to #2, there doesn't seem to be any danger of starting players to lose their job due to poor performance (especially this year) 4. Riley has had opportunities to over-sign recruiting classes to get closer to the 85 scholarship limit, and he hasn't done so.
  18. Again, Riley was brought into IMPROVE things, and this is one thing that Bo kinda struggled at due to his inexperience, and Riley is having the exact same issues as Bo.
  19. He may not be any worse than Bo, but I thought that Riley was supposed to be able to improve roster management because he has so many years of coaching experience.
  20. The way Riley and his staff have managed the roster the past 3 years is one of my biggest criticisms I have for them. They manage the roster like it's an Oregon State roster.
  21. Yep, Barrett was starting MLB. Adam Carriker was also a freshman DE who would be brought in on pass situations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Nebraska_Cornhuskers_football_team
  22. This is just my guessing, but I think Diaco doesn't like to blitz because 1) it can create big plays for the opposing offense and 2) he's not confident with the secondary that NU currently has. That's just a guess, but Bo's D from 2003 had future NFL guys in the secondary (Bullocks twins and Fabian Washington). That enabled Demorrio Williams (another future NFL player) to be used on a variety of pass rushing areas.
  23. Parrella is being told to coach the DL the way the DC wants them to be coached. In Diaco's 3-4, the D-line isn't expected to make many plays. It's expected to take on blockers, and create seams for the LB's to come in and make plays.
  24. One of the things that NFL media guys point out is that the college offenses are making it harder for NFL coaches to find and develop offensive linemen. There just aren't enough quality linemen to play in the NFL. If NFL coaches are having issues finding these guys, how do we expect college coaches to do it?
