  1. Kind of odd that when he red-shirted and was on the practice squad, the staff and the starters said he was ready to play, but now he is not good enough. Davey was good enough and then he wasn't. Wilbon was good enough and played, then he wasn't good enough. Everyone was saying Taylor was a perfect fit for the Husker offense. Riley comes to town and all of a sudden he is not good enough. You can call me butt hurt or what ever you want, but things just don't add up as to why Taylor never got any meaningful touches in practice or in a game. Only thing that changed was Mike Riley came to town. The same things apply whether it is High school or college ... the difference is in college ... the players are bigger and faster. You need to come to grips with the fact Mike Riley is not the type of coach that should be coaching the Husker football team. Riley coached a team in a town where on Sunday morning 90% of the people in that town had no idea who won the game on Saturday and didn't care enough to find out.I'm not a fan of Riley at all. But that doesn't take away the fact that you seem like some delusional Texas High School football fan that is all butt hurt because a former Katy player isn't getting any snaps at RB at NU.
  2. I know I'm kinda pathetic because I waste so much time caring about 18-22 year old young men playing a sport, but the people who care so much about 15-18 year old boys playing a sport are super weird to me. Friday Night Lights and Varsity Blues weren't so far off in terms of crazed fan bases and high school football in Texas.
  3. I will excuse the missed PAT by Brown. I think it was his first one of the year, and that field at Levi's Stadium is terrible for kickers and their plant foot. However, 2 offside penalties on opponent PAT's is in-excusable. One of them allowed UCLA to kick the PAT after they missed the first attempt. That 1 point could have been a huge difference in the game.
  4. For this offense we also need a high quality passing qb and high quality receivers. If we had all of that, this offense would be very exciting. See, that's the problem with the pro-style offenses. In order to be great, it requires great talent across the board at every position. It can work at schools like USC or Alabama or Florida State, where it's easy to recruit to. But, spread and option offenses don't require amazing talent up and down the offensive roster. Colorado ran a pro style offense in the early 2000's under Gary Barnett and they whipped us in 2001 62-36. Wisconsin/Bielema ran a pro style power run offense when they destroyed us in the B1G 70-31. Bielema continues to use a power run pro style offense. So, I disagree with you that it can only work at schools like USC, Alabama, Florida State. Nebraska has to get better up front and become a more physical unit in that regard. Nebraska can be a physical team like Stanford, Alabama, and others if it is the mentality they acquire and work their butts off. I see a difference in Colorado's offense in the early 2000's and Wisconsin's/Bielema's offense with the others that I mentioned. I shouldn't have included Alabama in with USC and Florida State. NU doesn't need to be all spread all the time, I just think it's difficult to run a pass-heavy pro-style offense like USC/Florida State/UCLA without great talent across the board. UCLA looked great at times on Saturday night, but also struggled with pass pro and didn't run the ball all that great because their o-line wasn't up to snuff.
  5. 2nd round. He has the athleticism to play any position other than NG on an NFL DL and a tremendous motor. I'd have to look at the list of DTs who are going this year, but physically, he must be among the top 5. There was a scroll during the NU-UCLA game that showed Collins as the #5 rated DT by Todd McShay. The DT from UCLA was listed as the #6 rated DT. Collins will go in the first 2 rounds for sure, and I would think he will be in the bottom of the 1st-early 2nd round.
  6. Illinois' and Purdue's coaches say hello. What else did they say? yup 1-0 is good number to go off of PS your boy Bo was 0-2 against Mora Bo is not "my boy". I can be critical of Riley without being a Bo-lover!!! The coaches are mutually exclusive. Get over yourself.

  8. Agree with everything on the list except for Utter. Watched him get blown up/not block anyone all year long. Very doubtful he'll be a starter Utter is also being mentioned at the center spot next year. Hopefully there are some young guards able to come in and start ahead of Utter next year.
  9. Might depend on his pro day. He could be a a good free agent pick up after the draft.Glad he had a decent showing at the end of his career...he stayed with it and proved his loyalty to the Huskers! Cross's future in the NFL will depend if he can play on special teams. Backup RB's and the last guys on the roster have to be able to contribute on special teams. I don't know if he has done much special teams coverage at NU, but he will need to do that in the NFL to make a squad.
  10. Maybe we go out and hire another Co-OC to coordinate the run game then if Langs' emphasis is on throwing the football. IF Riley is not using PC speak, then he truly gets it that at Nebraska, you've got to be successful running the football. I'm not 100% sold on it yet though. I think the bowl game was just simply attacking a glaring weakness against UCLA's 88th ranked run defense. This formula should have been used against teams we lost to (Illinois and Purdue) and then 8-5 looks much better than 6-7. This formula should have been used all year, regardless of the opponent. I agree that NU wins at least 7 regular season games, and probably 2 more to go 9-3.
  11. biggest difference was him not throwing off his back foot and into triple overage. That's on him, not the coaches. But it is on the coaches to ask him to do things that he doesn't excel in. Tommy needs to be involved in the running game and be used in a lot of play action passes. Also, focusing on the run game brings an extra defender out of pass coverage and makes it easier for him to read coverages. Having TA drop back to pass and read multiple coverages 40 times a game is just stupid. exactly.......MR told a damn lie, he forced TA into a pro style passing role......yeah, its his dream, when POB gets here he will soon be the man, because MR wants to run that style......but why piss away a season, trying to get TA to be something he is not?....... And will MR try to piss away another season next year? Will he take a senior QB, who is a very well-liked leader of the team, and tailor the offense to him? Or will he force his own offense to TA. TA will most likely fail, and then MR will turn the reigns of the offense over to a true frosh and the team will struggle again.
  12. The biggest lesson that the coaches should see is that they need to bring in better talent. I think the coaches cost the team numerous games with poor decisions and game management. NU was better than a 5-6 win team. This team should have been at least a 7-8-9 win team. But, to get NU to a 10-12 win team, NU needs an upgrade in talent.
  13. Langsdorf is a QB coach. Most QB coaches want to throw the ball on offense, especially if their experience is in the pro-style passing game. That's where the dichotomy comes into play.
  14. #3 is pretty much key to how this season went, IMO. Part of an OC's responsibility is to call plays to put his offense in the best position to succeed. Yet, a lot of fans wanted to put all the blame on Tommy. I'm not saying Tommy is the perfect QB, but he can look good when put in better situations. Having him drop back 40 times a game and read defenses is not the best way to use him.
  15. It only took all year. Now, if we can just get our defense up to snuff...and Langsdorf can learn his lessons...Riley may actually be successful next season. Question is--why the f*** did it take them all this season to learn these lessons? Old, stubborn coachesBS. UCLA stinks against the run. So we ran. Go look at our running stats against Iowa. We ran there too, but not for a lot of yards because their run D was better than UCLA's. Run D is their weakness and we took advantage. That's it. That game plan doesn't work against everybody.I seriously don't think anyone understands this. Be prepared to hear for the next 8 months "We should have run the ball all season, derpity derp. Hopefully the coaches learned from the bowl game". Keep fighting the good fight but it's a lost cause IMO, LOL. Why is it a lost cause? Running the ball, especially in college football, makes the offense a lot easier to be effective. Why was Tommy able to throw to single covered guys and hit open receivers on play action passes? Because UCLA had to commit an extra safety to stop the run game. Going back and throwing the ball 40 times a game is foolish, especially in uncertain playing conditions that NU often sees in the Big Ten.
  16. The game plan was to run the ball against UCLA. I applaud the coaches for sticking with it after NU fell behind 21-7, but UCLA still hadn't stopped the offense, except for one drive. Yes, there was Tommy's fumble, but that was after a clear face mask that wasn't called. Langsdorf has been very quick to move away from the run game when it hasn't worked consistently. He doesn't have the patience to stick with it, play after play, and drive after drive.
  17. The problem with the WCO and pro-style offenses is that the coaches generally want to tailor the game plan to the specific weaknesses of the defense. They allow the defense to dictate what they want to call on offense. There is nothing wrong with being able to do multiple things, but there are times when the offense has to have a strength that should be relied on. Most of us want that strength to be the running game, and have the offense run the ball until it's stopped for multiple times in a row.
  18. This. 20, 25, Not sure what the right number is, but it is far from 40! Will never happen. If anything, they will add more. so true, it is all about the money to be made. ESPN owns most of the bowls, especially the minor ones. They need live game inventory to air on their networks. Football is the biggest ratings sport, so ESPN wants to air as many football games as they can.
  19. I was hard on Imani for being too limited in what he can do in an offense. He showed that he can have a positive impact on an offense. Good for him, and I was wrong.
  20. MR also prefers to "trick" the defense, too. Some coaches just want to show how smart they are.
  21. I doubt he would play football at NU. It's too much of an investment to play both football and baseball, especially at QB. Erstad only played football for one year, and that was as a punter/kicker. That position was more "do-able" since he doesn't have the need to practice full time at kicker.
  22. Illinois' and Purdue's coaches say hello.

  24. Just shut it and enjoy the winIt's a fair comment. This was the offense most of us waited all year to see. It helped that UCLA was an undersized defense, but it was the best the offense looked all season, in terms of efficiency.
  25. Smart move. Go have a long career in the NFL and get paid.
