Gabbert the Recruiter

From the Lincoln Journal Star:

Gabbert comfort

Anybody worried about heralded quarterback recruit Blaine Gabbert ever reneging on his verbal pledge to Nebraska might be comforted by his relationship with current Husker quarterback Sam Keller.

“I’ve become pretty good friends with him — we text (message) each other a couple times a week,” said Gabbert, a 6-5, 230-pound player from Ballwin, Mo. “He’s had a big influence on me.”

Among the high school standouts Gabbert has been calling on behalf of the Huskers are Deion Walker, a five-star running back from Christchurch, Va.; Spencer Ladner, a tight end from Kansas City, Mo.; and Sam McGuffie, a speedy all-purpose player from Cypress, Texas.

is it legal for players to talk to each other before a letter of intent is signed? didn't reggie bush get in little trouble for talking to that back out of mississippi? or is it former players can't talk to recruits?

Former players talking to recruits is almost the same as coaches visiting recruits at their schools during an evaluation period. They are not allowed to speak to them, but if that very 'lucky' moment happens and you run into the recruit, you can speak to them as you pass by.

A former player can't go out of his was to get up with a recruit, but if he happens to 'run into' a recruit, then it falls along those same lines.

It's former players that aren't supposed to talk with them. Bush had already left school when he had that trouble at USC.

What if the former player sucked...does the NCAA care about that? Say, if Blake Tedke was talking to recruits would the NCAA care?!?!
