OTOH maybe he won't be a QB eventually:

Kevin Newsome has the frame and athleticism to play almost anywhere on the field.

Linebacker, running back or quarterback?

While Newsome was a bit late to the party as he was originally just slated to participate in the Elite 11, when he decided to join the NFTC midway through the drills, he looked like anything but a quarterback. In fact, if you saw him and Dorian Bell side-by-side, you would have thought Bell was the QB. Newsome isn't quite as tall as some have projected him, but he is a well put together dude and is a great looking athlete.

He showed some flashes of becoming a solid passer but has a lot of mechanical and technical glitches to work through. He is very inconsistent with his accuracy, but when he is fundamentally sound, he delivers the ball with nice zip and good power on the deep ball. With his frame and athleticism, he is definitely a candidate to be moved to tailback, safety, linebacker or wide receiver. This is not to say he can't play QB because he can, but nonetheless he has some physical prowess when he steps on the field.

Apparently, he just found out the Michigan is recruiting QBs (Forcier, Beaver, etc.) like crazy as he has now decommitted according to ESPN:

ESPNU 150 athlete Kevin Newsome decommits from Michigan

ESPNU 150 Athlete / quarterback Kevin Newsome of Hargrave Military Academy, Va., has decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines and re-opened his recruiting.

Newsome, originally from Chesapeake, Va., had picked the Wolverines over offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Penn State, Wake Forest, West Virginia and North Carolina, among others. He is still considering Michigan.

Newsome rushed for more than 600 yards and passed for over 1,500 as a junior.

Michigan already has a commitment from Rider (Wichita Falls, Texas) quarterback Shavodrick Beaver and plan on taking at least two quarterbacks in Class 2009. The Wolverines are also recruiting two other ESPNU 150 quarterbacks in Tate Forcier of Scripps Ranch (San Diego, Calif.) and Eugene Smith of Miramar, Fla.

Momma wants him closer to home, so I have to assume he is going nowhere but Tech.

UNC has Renner. West Virginia has Boyd. UVA, they couldn't land a big time QB if they were handed to them. Penn State would seem to far even for mom as well.

I'd full expect Beamer to lay it on thick to keep another guy in-state, which he is great at.

I wouldn't count out Penn State simply because they really need a QB in this class (after blowing it with Pryor) and only have Newsome and Forcier on their list. If a guy wants to start all 4 years, he should probably look at the school that did not sign any QBs the last 2 classes.
