husker B-rent
42 points in regular play is not a sign of good D. or at least not as great as they were predicting. i only watched part of their game and what i saw they didnt look all that great. i would call the illini a good team but not a 9+ win team thoughts? huskerjack23
they put up 52 points themselves. and they can probably shore up those issues in five weeks. Quote Link to comment

Illinois didnt run like last year having lost thier back to the nfl, but juice was burning them deep. mizzu looked pretty damn good. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
I noticed a team that will beat the crap out of us unless our secondary and pass rush improves a ton. Quote Link to comment
husker B-rent
they did put up 52 points themselves, but if they get in a bunch of shootouts they will not win them all. they played sloppier than we did imo. i will say that they may beat us, but it will not be by much IF they do. clearly we have work to do, but they are not as good as most have predicted. Their D was very sloppy, moreso than a first game warrants out of a D that was so good last year and should be good this year. their corners are probably in the bottom of the big12 and their safeties arent much better. unless they get it fixed over the next 3 games then i predict that we can lay 300+yards passing on them. after looking at their boards even their fans thought that they looked bad on D. SkerMin8r
Personally, I think them losing by only 10 isn't a good sign for us. It indicates to me that they (the players) were buying in to their own hype. I fear this might be a wake up all for them. Last year they had something to prove...and played that way. This year they are the "hunted". This MAY be an indication that they are not well equipped to play that role. We will see... Quote Link to comment
hskrfan4life
I was watching that when i got home. Juice Williams could pass all over them and ocassionaly got a good run Quote Link to comment
melscott62
first game of the year... it means almost as little as last year. we just need to worry about improving(which we clearly are) and getting back to level we used to be at (which we clearly arent) Quote Link to comment
jayhawk
It was week 1 and not Western Michigan as their opposition... Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
It was week 1 and not Western Michigan as their opposition... Yeah, that's the thing, Illinois is a pretty decent team. Missouri is going to be good this season. Everyone better keep an ample supply of handy. Quote Link to comment
huskersurfer
Giving up 42 points means nothing in week 1. Some teams come out looking great in week and some teams get it going as the season progresses. By week five who knows how that defense will be. Quote Link to comment
Apathy
It was week 1 and not Western Michigan as their opposition... Or Florida International Illinois is way over rated and I think that Nebraska could've beat Illinois. Quote Link to comment

They did get a defensive TD and returned a kickoff for a TD.. Their offense was still impressive, but Illinois did stop them numerous times.. Quote Link to comment

I am only pointing out that they had a real opponent in week 1, just like last year.... We will find out if Nebraska can beat teams like Illinois soon enough. As a matter of fact, week 5 was pointed out out by someone as a chance to show if there is real improvement. Not that you would have to even win, but to play really well and lose would probably be a nice step, if not a victory. Quote Link to comment
