This is "off-topic" but since it has become part of the thread, I kind of agree with Junior....Florida didn't really stop OU..... OU's wr dropped passes, tipped to ints, Brown destroyed Florida when OU ran on 1st down instead of 2nd or 3rd and short...... OU had a great opportunity in the 1st half, but a holding and personal foul basically stopped a scoring drive....along with the goal line stand and int at end of half....

 

Plus.....showing Florida's SEASON STATS is irrrelevant, since the conversation was how they could stop OU's offense and the type we see in the Big 12, not what they played against the entire season....

 

But, Reed will probably be a great asset to the D.......welcome to the blacksirts Kyler.

I assume he is going to be at strongside? From what I have heard Washington doesn't really like to hit as much as the coaches would like him to, so to speak. Reed will probably be right behind fisher next year with compton and dillard at mike and lawrence (who really impressed me late in the season) and whaley on the weakside.

Showing the season stats established that the Florida defense was good. That was the point. On the flip side the Oklahoma offense came in as one of the most prolific in history and made a very good defense look sub par. Having a month to prepare gave the edge to both defenses going in. Oklahoma just made too many mistakes to oversome.

 

When he was recruited I named Reed as my sleeper pick and I think he will get a chance to shine on D.

Very nice move by the coaches. He could end up being a Travis Lewis just bigger and more physical. Very athletic guy

This is really exciting. He is big, yet fast. Hopefully he picks up the defense quickly and can contribute sooner rather than later. He will also offer the physical match up with an opposing TE. Most of the time a TE on a LB is a prestine match up for the offense, but it would seem so in this case. 6'3" 220 with wheels, i likey.

This is a great move. Just to prove the point... before he was suspended from the team Cody Glenn was the 2nd leading tackler on the D and was improving every game. Using that H-back kind of speed and athleticism pays off. Plus we are pretty stacked at H-back with Q, Helu, Mendoza, Okafor, and Lester Ward. We also have incoming recruits Dontrayevous Robinson and Lex Burkhead. Should be enough to keep us going!

No one ever posted about it, so thats why I was confused. I liked the idea of having that kind of athlete at LB. It seems that we have enough TE's.

He's a big guy who looks very athletic. Definitely has the frame to play LB. Good luck to him there.

they were always high on reed as a tight end/h-back....the move was made easier with the emergence of mcneill and dreu young plus the promise that ben cotton have shown....it's no secret that wants pelini wants to be faster and more athlethic on D....reed fits that mold as a LB

I think Florida showed what a fast athletic D can do to the kind of offenses prevalent in the Big 12. Guys athletic enough to keep up with their WRs and TEs, batting down balls, and making tackles after the catch instead of 10-20 yards down field. LBs that can blitz with incredible speed so there's no time to dump the ball off.

 

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Florida's D wasn't really very good. If OU wouldn't have beat themselves, they easily would have won the game. Bradford laid the ball in there pretty good. His WR's are the ones that stunk up the place. On his two INT's, both of them were caused by his WR's not catching the friggin ball. OU should have scored in the 30's as they were down there in the redzone only to beat themselves. Their RB was running through Florida's D like it wasn't even there. The WR play for OU was down right terrible. Bradford made some beautiful throws, but his WR's didn't catch them. OU's D leaked like a sieve, but so did Floridas.

Um, yeah those are very nice statistics over the course of the season. However, I was talking about just one game, and that game was last night. Brown or whatever the name of OU's RB was just ran all over Florida. On one drive alone he had like 4 consecutive first downs all by himself.

 

Florida:

Florida's DBs were able to stay with Oklahoma's WRs and their pass rush was able to hurry Bradford. DBs have to make the plays to get those 2 INTs. Oklahoma did choke the game away, but the end result is Florida D held them to 14 points. That is good defense.

 

Bradford threw a ball 40 yards downfield where his WR was a step and a half ahead of the defender. The ball slipped right through the WR's hands. If the ball was caught, it was a sure TD. The first INT occurred because the ball bounced off the WR like a pinball before being eventually grabbed by a Florida defender. The second INT occurred as the DB was like a yard or two behind the receiver. The receiver had the ball slip right through his hands into the DB's hands. Both balls should have been caught. During the regular season, both balls would have been caught. The OU WR's just weren't playing their game last night. It wasn't like Florida's D knocked Bradford out of his rhythm because that just didn't happen. I'm rather of the opinion that OU's offense is what help them to 14 rather than Florida's D holding them to 14 points.

The Florida defense was MAULED by the OL and Chris Brown. OU wins if Murray isn't out. OU also ran very little hurry up, even when they were down in the 2nd half.
