Popular Post Cy the Cyclone
The 2010 football season is upon us and with it comes another record breaking appearance of Cy's amazing game day predictions (calculated to be 99.5% accurate) This year may prove to be quite challenging as every team in the Big 12 has at least one difficult non-conference game (okay, maybe not Oklahoma State but they need all the help they can get this year) but, rest assured, that Cy will be right all of the time so don't even bother to argue with him by using facts or figures because those are irrelevant where predictions are concerned: Week One Northern Illinois at Iowa State - Once again, Iowa State will be the only undefeated team in the Big 12 and will be the sole holder of first place in the North division for two whole days since they open the season on Thursday night...and you will all be forced to watch it on national TV as this will be the only show in town. ISU has an experienced offense that should score a lot of points against NIU...and their defense is so inexperienced that they won't realize at this point that they are supposed to suck. Iowa will teach them that lesson in week two. As for Northern Illinois...they are located in the northern part of Illinois and that's about all I know about them, therefore they get the lose by default. Winner - Iowa State Sam Houston State at Baylor - I contacted Rand McNally and they assured me that the United States does not contain a state called Sam Houston even if Obama did visit it during his presidential campaign. This leads me to the conclusion that if the state doesn't exist then the football team that represents that state must also be mythical. Therefore, Baylor will continue their tradition of playing with themselves during the first week of the season. It's time to start up the Robert Griffin Hype Machine as Baylor rolls over nobody in the first week. Winner - Baylor Colorado State at Colorado - Actually, they're playing in Denver as the stadium in Boulder was being used on Saturday for a Legalize Marijuana rally...one of the few events garuanteed to sell out at CU. Last year State surprised the Buffs (but no one else since we all knew Colorado was going to suck) with a win. This year Colorado will probably pull this one out as they need at least one victory before they sneak off in the night to join the 12 PAC...which is what you had better bring to the game if you want to enjoy watching Colorado play as, contrary to the predictions of the pundits, they are probably going to suck worse this year. Winner - Colorado North Dakota State at Kansas - It's nice that Turner Gill will get one victory this year as he's going to need it. Kansas, after a steady diet of cupcake nonconference games that vaulted them to a pretender spot in the top 25 for a few recent years, has got a pretty nasty schedule to contend with this year. At least with Mangino gone, the team will actually get something to eat at the pre-game meal. North Dakota State is pretty good for a Canadian football team but they will have to play a few games before they figure out the American rules of football so Turner and Kansas should have an easy time of it. Winner - Kansas UCLA at Kansas State - Hey! Who scheduled a real team for the first week? This might be a hard one for the Bill Snyder in Bill Snyder Statium (as K-State continues the tradition of naming school buildings after famous dead people). The Purple Kittys have no defense to speak of and unless Coffman has learned to throw the ball to his own teammates instead of the guys with the other colored uniforms. I'm predicting the entire K-State offensive plan is to give it to Thomas...every down, every play...even when they're on defense. That MAY get them close to a win...but not close enough. Winner - UCLA Illinois at Missouri - Again...another game that is not actually at either school but in St Louis. Illinois was relevant in the Big 10 about 15 years ago but ever since that mascot controvery when the Indian casinos threatened to close if they didn't change their mascot from an Indian to a...uh...Illinoisian, they have played like, well, a typical Big 10 school. This should be an easy win for Missouri as they are still pissed off for being played like a fiddle during the Big 10 expansion talks and made to look like a bunch of the biggest gullible hicks west of the Mississippi. Winner - Missouri Western Kentucky at Nebraska - The march to a Big 12 title begins against another directional football team. Where is Western Kentucky besides obviously in Western Kentucky. Kentucky was neutral during the civil war because they didn't want to get beat up on and this tradition continues with the fighting Western Kentucky Neutrals. Lee should be able to lead the high powered offense to at least 10 points versus these guys. The bad news will be that Nebraska will be probably be flagged at least 10 times for flagrant stat inflation... Winner - Nebraska Utah State at Oklahoma - An in the South, yet another march to a Big 12 title begins as the Sooners rout the OTHER team from Utah...the one that's not very good. Does the state of Utah actually have enough people in it to support three college football teams? Well, I guess BYU doesn't count when getting state funding for their school but then again, Utah State doesn't count when it comes to getting victories for the state either. But at least they will be on TV since they are playing a contender for the National Championship which may help them get those big time recruits from Nevada and New Mexico. Notice that Utah State was the only college west of the Rockies that was NOT considered by the PAC 10 during expansion talks. Winner - Oklahoma Washington State at Oklahoma State - Unlike Utah State, Washington State WAS considered by the PAC 10 when expansion talks began. Unfortunately for them it was while they were considering how to replace them with a real football program. Okie State has a pretty easy schedule coming up for them and should be able to go 4-0 against Washington State and the rest of the junior colleges they have on the schedule. After that...it'll be fun watching them get pummeled by real football teams Winner - Oklahoma State Texas at Rice - This is a pretty interesting match-up at Texans hate Rice. They prefer potatoes. It would actually be kind of fun if the schedulers at Texas could find four teams that represent different food groups to play during the non-conference...for instance follow up the Rice game with a game versus WHEATon college....or maybe MILiKan University. Hmmmm...I wonder if it's possible to do that. Actually, it takes more brain power to figure that out than to figure out that Texas is going to stomp Rice into cakes in the first week. Winner - Texas Stephen F Austin at Texas A&M - How nice...a Texas school beats up on a little school named after one of Texas' heros. Hell, there isn't even a guy named Austin on their team. The real Stephen F Austin would have just shot them with a muzzle loader and been done with the damn thing. As it is, A&M should win this one handily. They are just lucky that they aren't playing Stone Cold Steve Austin University or it might be another story. Winner - Texas A&M SMU at Texas Tech - Does anybody besides me remember when SMU used to be the best cheaters in the nation and always cheated their way up into the Top 10 rankings. I mean, they outcheated everybody...even Switzer! I used to love SMU back then because they not only violated every NCAA rule in the book but then they even told you they were going to do it before they did it! Now though...they just kinda suck. They are Texas' version of Hawaii without the questionable team name. Texas Tech is lead by Tommy TUBERville which means they could be used in the search for food group teams that play Texas. Other than that...Meh. Winner - Texas Tech There you go...everybody wins except Snyder...and he has a stadium named after him so who cares. Feel free to argue or disagree all you want but I can already tell you that you are wrong and I am right...as it should be. 10 Quote Link to comment

UGAHusker
I like how you really went out on a limb on some of these picks. Really ball-sy to predict that EVERY game between FBS and FCS will be won by the FBS team...I mean, what are the chances of that? Quote Link to comment
sd'sker
i would bet on csu over cu, but cu needs it a lot more, so who knows. Quote Link to comment
