NORMAN – The status of Oklahoma starters DeMarco Murray and Jonathan Nelson remains uncertain as the Sooners prepare for their Big 12 championship game against Nebraska Saturday night.

OU coach Bob Stoops couldn't make a definitive statement about either player during his Big 12 teleconference appearance this morning. He said he hoped to have an update after tonight's practice.

Murray left OU's 47-41 victory over Oklahoma State last Saturday with a knee injury early in the fourth quarter. He rushed for 80 yards and caught six passes for 41 more before leaving. He is the Sooners' leading rusher with 1,053 yards and has exceeded 1,000 two of his past three seasons.

Nelson, OU's starting strong safety all season, fell hard while tacking Joseph Randle on the first play of OSU's second series. He was replaced the rest of the night by Javon Harris.

Nelson was second on his team in tackles heading into the Bedlam game.

if murray doesnt play that puts more pressure to get the ball to broyles. without that pass receiving ability out of the backfield a large part of OU's offensive game plan is gone, and if jones tries to force the ball to broyles i see him throwing a couple pics cause prince will lock down broyles and players like haag and gomes will have a hay day in the secondary. either way i think it will be a close hard fought way GBR!

NORMAN — Oklahoma expects to get back its leading rusher for the Big 12 Championship.

The Cornhuskers may have to wait to see if they'll have one of theirs.

Sooner coach Bob Stoops said following Monday's practice he has a “positive outlook” that running back DeMarco Murray will be able to play Saturday, despite suffering a knee injury that sidelined him during most of the fourth quarter at Oklahoma State.

“DeMarco is much improved from (Sunday),” Stoops said. “We'll see as the week goes. I don't want to say something until it's for sure.

“But it's looking positive right now.”
