NU v. Colorado

Recommended Posts

If Toney McCray continues to play at the high level he is on right now, 18 tonight, MAYBE this team might crack .500 in conference.

In all honesty even if he doesnt play at that level we should be able to win 8 anyway. We have other guys that can step up and we can play with anyone in the Big 12. some very winnable games on the road and we will be very tough at home even with the Kansas' and Mizzou's of the league.

For those who watched the entire game, what did you think of Diaz's night? I saw only about 10 min of the game (real time, not game time) on the eliptical at the gym tonight. He had quite a few "finesse" points that required decent skill, and looking at the box score, he wound up with 14 points. Not a bad night. We all know power ain't his game, so maybe we'll have to settle with those finesse points from him. Better than nothing.

I will say one thing, the bigs rebounding really is atrocious. Those who started a thread about it earlier in the season had fears that were entirely founded. Ubel, Almeida, and Diaz combined for 41 minutes and FIVE BOARDS. That is absolutely terrible. I haven't watched enough to know whether the system we run is part of the problem, but it can't be that big of a problem. Diaz should have 5 boards automatically just by virtue of being the tallest guy on the court. What do you guys think of this?

Damned good win. As I was perusing Yahoo's scores page I saw an article about major conference "little fish," teams that you didn't want to play. Nebraska wasn't profiled in the article, but CU was.

So what are we? Killer minnows?

I don't think Colorado is a little fish. They've already taken down Missouri and Kansas State, to very good ballclubs.

...

Nebraska's bigs have shown steady improvement since the Missouri game, hopefully they keep it up. As far as Diaz goes, he does get finesse points, and he could get away with that tonight, but he's got to finish strong. He just needs to get in the mindset of, "I'm taking this to the hoop, and i'm going to slam it home right in your face." Otherwise he's going to keep getting blocked or stripped like he was against Kansas.

As far as rebounding, we still need way more aggression from Diaz. Ubel and Almeida both played more aggressively tonight, but it's nothing more than a step in the right direction.
