Couple other things I noticed

1. Legate needs to work on his blocking before getting too many more carries.

2. Seriously, I can not for the life of me understand people's fascination with the Rexcat. Why in the world would we use that when we already have a QB who can run the ball? No kidding, if someone could answer this for me, I'd appreciate it, because I see it brought up all the time on this board and just don't understand it.

Hercules, I also don't see us using the Rexcat unless Taylor gets hurt. Last year, we brought out the Rexcat only in two situatinos: when Cody Green was QB, and when Taylor was QB but post-injury.

That said, I think there is value in there. Rex and Taylor give us two very different things still, even out of the same play. Taylor's a home run hitter. Rex is a guy who is very reliable at making the reads and picking up the tough inside yards. I would not be totally surprised to see us throw the Rexcat out there at times, when we need to establish some rhythm or consistency and nothing else is working.

It's something that has always worked well for us since it was finally unveiled in the '09 Holiday Bowl. Taylor hit it big twice against UTC, but one of our problems, especially early on, was getting into good 2nd and 3rd down situations. The Rexcat can help a lot in that regard, and get us into 3rd-and-4's or under instead of 3rd-and-10's.

Plus, we seem to like throwing the ball with Rex as a changeup (a la Lucky), and having Taylor lined up on the outside could give defenses another thing to have to worry about.

It has its use.

That's a very, very good question. You see it requested for endlessly here and the other Huskers forums. I don't get it either....

Seriously, I can not for the life of me understand people's fascination with T-Mart's running ability. Why in the world would anyone think that his skills are comparable to Rex. One makes plays and the other makes big runs when no one is around.

If you noticed the entire game was spent running plays they hadn't run in live games before. They didn't run anything they had run before other than a couple dive plays. We saw no deep pass to Reed, no zone-read, no Rexcat etc. etc.

It isn't like they aren't going to run the zone read anymore. Basically the last game was about running stuff they weren't 100% comfortable with at live speed and working on getting them buttoned down for better opponents, it wasn't about running the things they already know they can do effectively. Which is why I'm not nearly as pessimistic as most.

Excellent points. Does anyone honestly think our playbook consists of 25 plays? That's about all we saw on Saturday (if that).

I've said before that I'm not a huge fan of being vanilla or saving your offensive secrets for better opponents, but now that you bring up these points, Saturday's offensive gameplan makes sense. Beck was more concerned with perfecting things we don't do well/are new on offense than he was with hiding our offense.

Of course, time will tell, but Taylor is a zone-read wizard and you have to think that it will be incorporated into our offense moving forward.

Don't kid yourself, Taylor is the biggest playmaker on this offense. And it isn't even close.

I don't know, I think it is close with some of the young playmakers we have there this year.

This offense needs Taylor to be the biggest playmaker which is precisely why you will see something eerily similar to 2010. It's not there guys and it won't be.
