JJ Husker
I have read so much about this horrifying deal that I'm not sure I can take any more. I read the grand jury report fully. I was quite certain that JoePa would step or down or be fired and that has come to fruition. I realize there are more important things than a football game going on right now and I do not want to gloss over any of the suffering these many young boys have endured. But, I have had enough of this deal and I am sure there are others who would like an opportunity to discuss something other than this topic, at least intermittently. So, I am starting a thread that I really hope stays off of (or at least works around) the Paterno/Scandal subject and gives those of us who have had enough of that another venue in which to interact. My questions are; How does our team respond? What mindset do our players have? Does anyone have any idea how much this circus is interfering with our players ability to prepare for this game? How do we perform on the field? If you do not feel this is an appropriate time to discuss meaningless matters such as a football game amidst this debacle, then please move along and don't read or respond. Thanks. Chaddyboxer
I am leaning towards Bo having this team completely focused. I am counting on Carl and Bo putting the defense in a position to win Saturday. I think Neb is highly focused for this game considering the embarrassing loss to NW. The NW loss just reinforces the focus that was probably generated throughout practice this week. NEB will take care of business in "not so Happy" Valley. Quote Link to comment
JJ Husker
My gut feeling is telling me the same thing. I think our guys will be extremely focused on the task at hand and, if anything, maybe want to make a statement against what has transpired at PSU by opening a can of whoop a$$. I also cannot see how the PSU team will be able rally around any of this or how they can be even remotely focused on this game. But, if my gut was accurate even 60% of the time about the Huskers or college football, I would probably be living in a sportsbook in Vegas. Discounting this sideshow circus, I feel we match up very well with Penn State and I am not overly impressed with how they have come by their record thus far this season. They would appear to be highly beatable. That is why I am curious how our guys may play. If we finally put together a 3-4 quarter effort, I think we win handily. If it is our usual 2 quarter effort it could go either way. If it is a half quarter affair like Wisconsin, well it could be plain ugly (if PSU can manage to do anything in their circumstance). I'm not sure this game could have a result that could surprise me at this point. Quote Link to comment

I also believe that Bo will have our guys ready or at least he better after that turd we left on the field against Northwestern. I also feel that even with the chaos in happy valley Penn state will be wanting to play a solid game to take their minds off what is happening at their school, just don't know if they can make it last the entire game. But make no mistakes about it because of our unexpected loss to Northwestern we can not afford to lose this one or the next two for that matter if we want any chance to play in the BIG championship game. epocSoN
At this point nothing would surprise me. We could lose by 35, win by 35, or go into triple overtime. I will say this. Playing strong mentally hasn't been in our deck of cards all year. 1 Quote Link to comment
lo country
I would be incredibly impressed with Penn State if they actually came out focused and ready to play. Those players heads must be spinning right now. Hard to focus when your head coach gets fired for the reasons coming out, national media attention on the University as a whole and the rioting, news reports about the victimization that occurred on campus etc.... I would hope that after last weeks horrific showing against NW, Bo would have our guys focused. I would also hope that the staff mandated watching film. Ironic that Cassidy stated against MSU they really watched film and knew exactly what MSU was going to do by their formations, routes etc....and then against NW some admitted lack of prep or film work. I really think Bo likes the idea of walking into the lions den. We will be prepared and put together the first complete game from start to finish. Quote Link to comment

Perhaps you're right, perhaps vim does come first. We'll find out on Saturday. Quote Link to comment
