Sports Journalism hits a new low.

Who cares?

Man.. you guys bring homer and butt hurt to the whole next level. Who cares if they want to write a negative story about Bo. He hasnt really done much to deserve glowing words. He has this program at a middle of the pack level and his attitude makes the program look worse.

I swear some husker fans get so butt hurt if any journalist says a negative word about the Huskers. IT IS TEHRE JOB TO GIVE BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN! Dirk, Kugler and many others are Husker fans but they arent going to blow smoke up everyones backsides.

Do you really need to create a thread saying journalism is negative cause it isnt all rainbows and ponies?

freaking homers.

So, in your world, Dirk Chatelain is writing articles based solely on truth, he's a Husker fan, but he's doing what he does out of a desire "to tell the whole story."

That's a fairly significant level of denial you're living with. Good luck with that.

For the record....our AP writer for Nebraska football along with another OWH reporter are wanting to write a negative story on Bo in the up coming days. I say wanting because they are calling boosters and asking loaded questions that are in a negative slant to serve the purpose of the story. One guy is already stating he was not asked a single positive question about Bo in the 10 minutes he talked to this reporter and he pointed it out to the guy. I can't believe these guys call themselves reporters doing that crap and I wish UNL would set up more Randy York stuff and send it out daily to the news papers to counter act this type of crap. They are being very specific and trying to generate a negative response. As a former journalist, stuff like this pisses me off. These two guys are going out of their way to try and create hate for a public individual that can't even legally protect himself. And they wonder why they get short, sh#t answers when they ask them.

Please remember this when you're reading the "spin" from a couple of guys with no journalistic integrity what so ever.

Whats your point? The two major papers (well 1.25) should sunshine pump the Program at all costs? Bo has issues, maybe those need to be talked about, the public mind set a little riled up right now, and the OWH is going to feed into that. Both the LJS and OWH have been (rightly) accused of eating out of UNL's hand, maybe the OWH wants to change the status quo a little...

If you are connected as you claim to be, you know the media has sat on at least one story about Bo's behaviour off the field, and ignored the 500 pound gorilla that was Carls home life, that was the worst kept secret in Lancaster county, and not one word from either. In the end people should be able to understand a hit piece, if that is truley what it is. Should the OWH go out of its way to bash Bo, no, but if a negative article can create usefull discussion, then it might not be a bad thing.

Why is Carl's divorce anyone's business? If one of us has marriage problems it isn't for public. It shouldn't be any different for a coach. So I don't see how that's a gorilla for anyone. And Id have to know which other rumor you're addressing. Bo's done everything from punch his kids coach to destroy TO's office. I would hope you're not that dense.

Sam does a fantastic job of finding balance. He brings up issues an debates both sides. The guy has perspective. He's probably brought up the best critisms of Bo in the past year and he didn't have to create any of them. I don't expect reporters to be homers. I hated the OWH when BC was here because until the last half of his last years they regularly choked because his nut sack was so far down the staffs throat with all the love they gave him. At the same time they can't invent crap.

OWH does seem to have it out for Bo, which is disappointing because I usually like to read their stuff.... One of the few that I don't care for as a writer is Lee Barfknect; here is a nice shot that he took at Bo and/or Raymond in his blog....

Agree with you on Barf-knect. Of course, he has been easily disagreeable since the formative years when he sported that David Niven style replica of a 'stach.

On the other hand, I'll give props to Sam McKewon who seems to know his stuff and constantly approaches topics from a differing angle than the standard boilerplate.

That was a nice breakdown of the situation.... The OWH should be careful how they handle the Pelini situation, because it could hurt their credibility, and Pelini won't be any easier for them to deal with in the future....

Nice article. I have noticed the way the media chooses to portray Bo as the bad guy for quite some time. I just don't pay attention to it any more.

No doubt that McKweon and Shatel set themselves apart....

Last line of the Cornnation blog/article/thing da skers linked:

The loss to South Carolina will stick with Husker fans over the course of the offseason. That's a long time for thing to fester. What'd I like to ask is this - are you really upset with Bo Pelini's behavior at the bowl game, or are you completely disgusted with how your favorite team played and you need a place on which to focus your blame?

Someone get this guy a press pass. This is fine journalism. And the sad thing is, it's rare. Very.

In a country based on free speech and free will it's amazing how much the media can influence the entire nation. Nobody has their own opinion anymore. Hell, Bo Pelini himself has come out and spoken against the Husker fan base. Why? Because he has been influenced only by the majority of what he has heard or read. Just because he only hears the negativity does that mean that is the majority? I know for a fact it is not the majority. Yet he takes on this us against the world mentality as if Husker fans are out to get him. The media are scumbags. All of them. Journalism has no honor anymore. The sooner everyone learns that, the better.

I think that Pelini's negativity is directed more towards the media then the fanbase.... As competitive as he is, sometimes I wonder if he really understands how much we (Nebraskans) want to win, but then again who does outside of our great state....

They write this crap because it is what people want.

"People" are stupid. "People" are the lowest common denominator. "People" will eat a sh#t sandwich and smile if it diverts them from their daily lives. Writing to please "people" is why we have tabloid journalism rather than actual news today. It's why ESPN is rabidly consumed by the masses as if it's real sports information.

Journalists are supposed to be like offensive linemen - you either never know their name, or you learn their name because they are 1) Superlative at their job, or 2) they are horrendous at their job. We have examples of both in Nebraska sports journalism. I can guarantee you that nobody who fits description #1 is going to write the alleged article coming out.

Why exactly? I can only think of two possible reasons you would say this: 1) you either know that their article will be false, or some details in it will be false, or 2) you don't think a good journalist would write an article that would shed a negative light on the Nebraska football program.

If there's a third, let me know what it is. I don't know much about journalism, but if someone is writing about all facts I have a hard time believing they are doing a bad job.

Why do you guys get so riled up over this sh#t? Most of these scrawney-ass journalists never played sports. Do you form your opinions on the state of our team based on their articles or based on what you see when you watch us? Because I know I go off of what I observe. I really don't care what that little weenie Dirk thinks or what Shatel thinks. Everybody needs to chill out and enjoy the last part of recruiting and hopefully some positive stuff coming out of spring ball.
