tschu
I'm too angry to put together a legitmate thought right now, but here's a thread to discuss the debacle at the end of the game. GOGOGO Quote Link to comment
OmahaPlaya
All I can say is wow what a ending. Most insane I've ever seen only the Miracle at the Meadowlands had me more in shock then this. Quote Link to comment
strigori
I can imagine that many of the owners are calling Goodell already and telling him to get the real refs back, and give them whatever the F they want. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
sh#t makes me laugh. The NFL is a total joke. The refs are doing their best, I'm sure - it's the NFL itself that looks horrible for letting it go this long. 1 Quote Link to comment
RedRedJarvisRedwine
Yeah, this was the beginning of a bad week of football results for the state of Wisconsin! How do the dual badger/packer fans feel about Russell tonight? Quote Link to comment
ZRod
Just a Packers fan, but honestly it's hard to dislike the guy. He's got a good life story and he's just an all around good guy. *edit* That said, I just heard Golden Tate's post game interview on ESPN and I now have no respect for that punk. Praises god in one sentence for competing for the ball, never admitted that he did or didn't catch it. Then he's asked "Did you push off?" his answer "I don't know what your talking about." Good work there Peter deny, deny, deny. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
Interestingly, the guy they had talking about it in the studio after the fact (I think he was a ref?) said the replay officials couldn't determine possession. Quote Link to comment
Husker John
Packers got jobbed. Quote Link to comment
Enhance
sh#t makes me laugh. The NFL is a total joke. The refs are doing their best, I'm sure - it's the NFL itself that looks horrible for letting it go this long. In some cases they are, in others, not. I think a lot of the heat and criticism they're taking is unfair. Last year, most of these guys were refereeing division two/three games and we're not held to the same standards as NFL refs. It's a damn-near 300 page rule book and even the real NFL refs have trouble remembering it sometimes. Now, you're asking amateurs to fill their shoes? It's no surprise things are rough. That's in their defense. Against them, they've made some very dumb decisions (like the one guy dressing up in Saints gear and taking pictures, bragging about he was going to referee the game). I mean, how thick can you get? All in all, the call at the end of tonight's game was bad, but I think people should have an opinion more like yours - this is the NFL's fault, NOT the replacement refs. They're being asked to do a job that is currently beyond them. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
http://espn.go.com/v...clip?id=8422506 As Gerry Austin says, replay officials can't determine possession. So basically, once that call was blown on the field, it's blown. They can't overturn that part of it. Probably a rule that needs reviewing, but it seems the replay officials got it "right" in that case, since they didn't have the authority to overturn. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
Yes, for the most part the refs are doing their best. There are always exceptions. For anything. Great. The NFL is a f'ing joke. Sadly, none of this will hurt their multi-billion dollar industry, which is all they care about and is why the appropriate refs are not back yet. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Lingerie Football League announces that it fired a couple of crews that are now reffing in the NFL, according to Deadspin http://deadspin.com/5946112/the-lingerie-football-league-announces-that-it-fired-a-couple-crews-which-apparently-are-now-officiating-in-the-nfl-because-of-incompetence Quote Link to comment
CheeseHusker
I've watched it 75 times. I still can't believe that they could get it so unbelievably wrong. Never mind the obvious offensive penalty. Golden Tate never had the ball. Never. F-cking. Had it. Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
In watching the replay several times, it appears to me that the ref on the field side and the ref from the endzone both looked at each other and when the field ref saw the other ref raise his arms, he thought he was going to signal touchdown and did so himself. Unfortunately the endzone ref waved his arms to stop the clock which signals an interception or change of possession. The proper thing to do was to have a conference to see what they each thought happened and when. Then the head ref should have made a decision. I'm not sure if they could have chosen to not make a decision and let the booth make the final call? Quote Link to comment
