Thats bull, if a recruit contacts fans over the internet, we are in no way breaking an ncaa violation by talking to him, even were we to encourage him to come here, allthough we dont have to since he is already committed. We are not allowed to contact him with the express purpose of getting him to come here, but he is certainly allowed to post on any board he wants, and we can ask any questions that we want as well. The rule is alot less gray than you think.

I never said you couldn't talk to him (and I am not a fan of the NCAA). But my understanding is you still have to be careful what you say to a recruit, commited or not commited. Someone needs to get the NCAA bylaws, so we can read them instead of arguing. The guy who used to post on this board and who worked for a recruiting service, echoed what I am saying. I could be wrong, but I don't think what I'm saying is total bull, Stuckin. But if I'm wrong, I will be the first to admit it. Now can someone find the bylaws? Until then, I discontinue this argument.

Ask and ye shall receive…

According to the Article 13 of the NCAA Division I Manual, a person who is a representative of the athletic interests is governed by roughly the same rules as the school. The definition of a representative of the athletic interest is:

13.02.13 Representative of Athletics Interests. A “representative of the institution’s athletics interests” is an individual, independent agency, corporate entity (e.g., apparel or equipment manufacturer) or other organization who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution’s executive or athletics administration to: (Revised: 2/16/00)

(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program;

(B) Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution;

© Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospects;

(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or

(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution’s athletics program.

These individuals must abide by the NCAA bylaws on recruiting contacts, which are far too numerous to list here – click the link above to view them. This includes student-athletes or even regular students who contact a prospect at the request of the school, administration, or athletic department.

Given that, the general public is free to contact recruits and to discuss, entice, exhort, or plead for a recruit to attend.

However…and this is a big one – if a person (someone who is not a booster or a representative as defined above) does this enough and with the knowledge of the school, they can be eventually deemed to be a representative of the athletic interests. There is no fixed number of calls or contacts that would have to occur, but assuming that the person is not a booster, it would appear that it would have to be substantial and fairly public. This board is not operated by or endorsed by NU, and would not qualify on its face. A member of this board contacting a recruit, or inviting him to the board, would not in-and-of-itself be a violation.

The guy who used to post on this board and who worked for a recruiting service, echoed what I am saying.

Well, not to cast aspersions or anything, but the only proof that a certain former member worked for a recruiting service was his own statements – at least on this board. He was asked numerous times to present his credentials, and never did.

Good Stuff! Thanks for the information.

The question is, Has any of us donated to the R U N program, helping build the Tom and Nancy O complex and if so would this consitute a violation? :dunno

According to the rule above, anyone that has made "financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution" would technically qualify as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests”. Based on that, I'd have to say that contributions to either would qualify.

Like I said, I will be the first to admit when I'm wrong. Ok, I'm wrong. The following Smilie is intended for me -- I'm the horse. dedhoarse

Sorry guys. Sorry Eric.

No problem. Now, let's see...

1. Time spent locating pertinent data - 1 hour.

2. Time spent reviewing said data to determine meaning - 4 hours.

3. Time spent on consultation - 1 hour (sorry - have to round up).

Hourly rate - $250.00.

Please make your check for $1,500.00 out to cash - the bank doesn't recognize "AR Husker Fan" when I sign. Thank you and good night! :lol:

AR Husker, can we agree on the 20-year installment plan? Otherwise, I can't afford the payments. Or I could wash your car for two years. Or I could wash the ceiling in your home? Or I could cook for you, even though I don't know a damn thing about cooking and probably would burn your house down. Or you could sue my co-worker for sexual harassment for patting me on the back for doing a good job -- that way I could come up with the money. How about it?

Anyway, thanks for clearing this up for me. -- Spartness

Excellent job AR! Also a big thanks to Spartness for having the big heart not wanting to endanger the football program or the recruits.

Now where were we?

Paul thinks his team has a chance to win state this year. If he can put the team on his back like he did for track then maybe. But football is MUCH different than track. I'll have to reserve judgement until I see their first game. The Bates to Paul TD combo should be active again this year.

I love this board.... :lol: Thanks AR for clarifying, and thanks spartness for being a classy fan. Get Paul on the board!!!! I want him to be the first to post here after Callahan hoists the sears trophy over his head!!!!! Maybe a little bit hopeful, but what the hell is the point of watching if you think your gonna lose!!!!
