--I find this interesting on several levels. Bo Pelini is considering shutting out media access to his assistants, perhaps "permanently" (permanent in college football obviously is a loose term)

The article claims the assistant coaches at Nebraska have been available to the media since the 80's. I can't claim that, I can only go on what I remember. But I sure remember from the 90's on they were. And I also remember how a ton of people wrecked shop when Callahan started closing things off. So I can see the trepidation that the media in Nebraska would have by all of a sudden having very limited access to the most reported on topic in the state.

Of course Bo has had a bit of a year with the media. Getting caught on a hot mic and then getting it sent to Deadspin obviously would make anyone a little extra careful. And of course Bo, like other coaches (many other coaches) understand the importance of controlling the message, and are pretty obsessed with it.

You can point directly to Nick Saban in that respect. And I'm sure many will. You can also point to Lane Kiffin, who famously held self ran press conferences before getting taken out behind the airport terminal and put out of his misery. And I'm sure many will.

But the two thing is take away from this article are this. One of the last lines is saying Bo "has no plans to make any changes in his staff." That's absolutely stunning. And it has to anger the majority of this board at minimum, and probably the entire base. Two, the fact that Bo hasn't seen that he doesn't need to build walls around this program, and that it's the one thing that has probably hurt his image the most, it shows he's either unable to learn and adapt from his errors, or that he truly doesn't think he has made any errors.

And that's frightening.

Remember............?

" I have been excellent in every area"

So it's not like this is new territory.

I believe the problem is loyalty trumpeting performance. At some point stubborness interferes with putting the best work forward. Special teams being exhibit A.

It is odd with all the rumors about the hot seat, being fired etc that he would think of making a decision that would so alter the "Nebraska way". It flies in the face of what the fans (you know you do) complain about. The secrecy, inability to know what is going on in the program, fans feeling the staff doesn't get "it" etc.......

Saban was mentioned above. Get us 3 MNC's and you can get a lot more latitude. Continue to get blown out and you need to improve your PR big time.

On a side note, I watched the Minnie Syracuse game last night and still have no idea how we lost to them. NONE.

Yep. Would anyone actually be surprised if Bo makes these changes with the media and refuses to make coaching changes? That seems to fit him perfectly. Sad to think that we will probably have to endure at least one more season of this.

I was really hoping to see some changes in the off season ie staff, philosophies, even switching of responsibilities etc Even something to solidify the fan base so that it was "unified".

Almost a big screw you NU. Happy New Year from the coach who knows more than anyone.

If he doesn't make changes to his staff he's sealed his fate................simple as that and he'll be gone at the end of next season. He's stubborn and loyal to a fault and he'll find himself without a job because of it. Nevermind the fact that he's destroying his image in the process and no team will want to hire him because him seems to be bi-polar at best when the pressure is on. He's becoming delusional and he's alienating the fan base with his actions, but that's nothing new.

If Bo actually goes forward with this, then this will definitely hurt him in the long run. In fact this move could be the stake through the heart.

Husker fans crave news about their team.. To ban all media access to this with only Bo allowed to give comments is a disaster in the making. Maybe it's his way of showing the big middle finger to the sports writers and the husker fans. He should rather look at it that in many cases he made his own bed and had to sleep in it. Don't blame everyone else and not yourself for the drama that occurred this year. I don't think Bo is capable of that internal self reflection though.

Banning media access will only create more wild rumors and conjecture. It will also put him in a negative light with many more fans and sports writers. I hope he sees the light and doesn't do it. If he does, then it will only substantiate people's belief that Bo thinks he knows more than anyone and is incapable of taking criticism.

Watched the Gophers last night also, that was a very uninspired performance on there part.

On the media thing I guess I don't have a problem with it, but I don't hang on every word uttered by BP or the rest of the staff. One voice is a lot more common than you might think. At most schools the only assistants you might hear from are the coordinaters .

It will piss off the media for sure, but you can bitch all you want and it won't make a difference. I doubt he completely shuts down cases he will just modify it someway.

IMO the big off season story will be whether the OC and DC contracts are re-newed. That is an administrative decision, Bo Pelini does not pull every lever within Nebraska Football to his discontent. However, if Bo confronts AD Eichorst about this topic, I would bet the farm Eichorst will cave in again.

Who is ready for this act again next season???

IIRC our game was the first one with Kill in a limited role - they were playing for their coach and completely above their usual effort

Banning media access will only make HuskerBoard stronger, you cannot starve the beast. Where do you think the media gets their scoops? This is the trough.

How do you know there won't be changes in special teams or assignments or philosophies. None of these things will be discussed with you or me.

To me that is the funniest thing about fans. We think the coach should tell us every thing that is happening when in reality we hear at most 20% of things.

Don't be surprised if the punt return doesn't look different in the bowl game. Everyone keeps saying special teams when in reality the only big problem is punt return. Punt team would be better if the punter was more consistent, but it's not terrible.
