Tea Party vs. the GOP Establishment

Recommended Posts

Can someone provide me with credible links that shed light on the Tea Party? I don't know much about them other than the ideals it was started with which don't really seem all that bad to me.

When it started there was something about it that made me nervous and cringe but the basics they talked about seemed fair. They were all for smaller government, lower taxes and less intrusion into our private lives from government.

From there though, it has morphed into total idiocy. It is absolutely unbelievable how such a messed up group can pretty much take over a political party and throw out the power they do in elections. The absolute propaganda they spew is sickening and certain segments of the population are just eating it up. No longer are they for just sensible conservatism. They are all out lie, cheat, make up crap about the opposition to get what ever they want.

Some day hope history books mention them in a little blip as a fad group that only lasted a short time. The world would be a better place if the vast majority of the population would see these people for what they really are.

Okay well I asked for links because I'm not going to just take your word for it :)

There really should be four parties in this country. Commies, liberals, conservatives and fascists. The extremes could each have their own party and see how well they do on their own.

This is something that I've been hopeful that the tea party would accomplish. Having more than two parties would be really great.

This. People are so up in arms at the rise of the Tea Party and other movements. Why do people want to be so pigeon-holed into two choices? Representative democracy with a number of viable candidates (not necessarily parties) opens up the discussion of many more ideas and makes existing politicians/parties have to work that much harder to convince the masses to vote for them and to continue voting for them.

EDIT: And Knapp JUST beat me to it, although in a bit more detailed and visually appealing manner.

I would love to have more choices and I would love to have 4 parties. However, I don't want the "Tea Party" to be any part of it. They are too disgusting of a group to make me want them to be involved at all.

Admittedly from a TV show but this was pretty good. It basically spells out how absolutely horrible representative they are of anything conservative.

I read the first few paragraphs of this but it seems pretty on par with my views.

Basically, the Tea Party is made up of a group of people who are the result of Fox News/Rush Limbaugh crap. They sit and feed off of the vomit these media people spew and they get crazier and crazier. The problem is, it is no different than any other cult. The comments they make on the surface sound reasonable. However, once they have you in their grasp, they convince you that THEY are the only truth and don't believe anyone else. This is how we end up with a crazy rancher in Nevada thinking the tyrannical government is trying to steal his land when it's the friggen government's land to begin with and then we have crazies with guns out there supporting the crazy rancher.

Just google "What is wrong with the tea party" and you will learn a lot.

I don't understand this stance. If you don't like what a party/candidate stands for, don't vote for them. Censoring the opinions and ideologies of those who we don't like or who we don't want to be involved with is how totalitarian regimes are created.

The trick these devils have pulled is, they sit atop two huge piles of issues, but put one or two at the very forefront (guns & abortion / social programs & abortion), and they blind the populace to what they're really doing.

You go over to Paris or Rome or any major European city and you're going to have these pickpockets swarm you at the squares or tourist sites. They shove a tray of trinkets in your face so all you see are the things you think they're trying to sell you, while with their other hand they're pilfering your pockets.

Well put. +1

By the way, if we need candidates to run on the "Totalitarian Regime" ticket, I'll throw my hat in.

Who is censoring? I'm not asking for a government ban on their party. I'm not asking for them to not be legally allowed. I'm dreaming of a time when these scum don't have political power because the American people have woke up to their act and individually have decided to think on their own and shun them.

I assumed that when you said that you "don't want the 'Tea Party' to be any part of it" that you were implying that they shouldn't be allowed to play ball. My mistake.

I do agree that people thinking on their own is the answer, although I don't think that "shunning" the Tea Party is the way of going about it. Differing opinions.

No, I am not for any type of censorship or banning politically. However, there are some things I wish the general public would wake up to and minimize due to individuals realizing the world is a better place going in a different direction.

I'm curious. Why do so many of you whom disagree with their platform/politics/whatever, think its cool to refer to the Tea Party as tea baggers? Is it some kind of code word for the cool kids club?

Disclaimer: I am affiliated with no political party. I vote the platform, not the party with whom the candidate is affiliated. This isn't targeted at just the libs because I see it on both sides but it is far more prevalent when it comes to the Tea Party.

For all the talk of bi-partisanship (on both sides) by many of you on this board, you may want to check your slip, because its showing.

Juvenile and sophomoric.

Fair enough. But the reason people deride the Tea Party is because it is the most despicable and destructive group of people in modern politics. Their entire philosophy--if you can call it that--is obstructionism. They have no ambition except the prevention of governance. You have an entire wing of the Republican party that thinks voter fraud is a bigger issue than gun control. They think the conservative Affordable Care Act is an existential threat to our democracy, but that climate change is a hoax best ignored. They think wearing a tri-corner hat and holding a rifle makes you Thomas Jefferson.

Who do we have to thank for these people? Mostly the right-wing hysterics in the media. Remember, it wasn't that long ago when Glenn Beck--yeah, that guy--had a huge following on Fox News. It's organizations like Fox and people like Beck, Hannity, Drudge, Levin, O'Reilly, Savage, etc. that feed and sustain the movement with their brand of fear mongering. Say what you want about the Tea Party, it is not a consequence-free phenomenon. Presently the Republican Party is paralyzed by its own disease. And that's unfortunate for all of us, because there are just enough of these ignoramuses that congress is essentially a vestigial organ of government. This congress is the least productive in the history of the Republic. Which is unfortunate for a depression-level economy in the aftermath of two wars.
