New Trophy Game vs. Wisconsin

Recommended Posts

Where is this Colorado stuff coming from? I am a younger fan and don't give a lick about what they do or how much they didn't like us. They pulled up a national title and kudos to them. They also thought that made them some sort of giant deserving praise and fear. It didn't last long and they fell to an average to above average team after Kordell Stewart left, outside of 2001. It didn't matter what day of the year we played them. We didn't care about them.

The same right now goes for Wisconsin. What does beating them mean? One step closer to a division title. No different than Iowa, Northwestern, or Minnesota. The only conference game that has a extra ordinary significance in my mind this year is playing MSU. They were conference champions last year and are the best measuring stick we have on our season. There is nothing brewing in our conference at this point and for now that is fine. We have to take care of ourselves, play the best we can, and welcome the Rutgers to the conference when they come to town. That is all this season means to me.

I am actually most excited for Miami. My old roommate was a Miami fan and I would love to stick it to him. Ugh!

Manufactured on their side? Manufactured? In what way? You mean manufactured as in a few decades of getting their asses handed to them. Or maybe manufactured as in every time they had a decent season, even top five in the country a few times, there we were to snatch their hopes from them. You call that manufactured? I'd call that a legit reason to hate us. Thats the stuff rivalries are built from.

Bill McCartney got hired, looked at the schedule, circled a date on the calender and pronounced "Nebraska is now our rival". Banned players from wearing red. Mostly it was a motivation move since CU hadn't beaten NU since 1967 and only once since 1961. And it wasn't a conference dictate, just one coach who still wound up with a losing record again the Huskers

So...in your opinion not a rival?

Works for me, I just took a poll in my household 3-0 all voted that Nebraska/Colorado was a rivalry. So my position hasn't, and will not change on the matter.

Everyone in my family seems to think Iowa is a rival, so it has to be true!

I just hope that I'm welcome back at the Eagles Club for Bingo night if Wisconsin beats us this season and I start considering them a rival! They get pissy down there you see. Either everyone considers a team a rival, OR NOBODY DOES! Very strict rules.

I had to jab at your three person survey and I almost puked when my family started talking about Iowa. I don't care and neither should you. But, alas, they have their own thoughts.

Call it what you will. For decades every Husker fan knew that Oklahoma was our rival. There isn't consensus that Colorado was ever a rival. Speaks volumes.

And every Oklahoma fan knew that Texas was their rival. NU-OU was an important game, but a one-sided rivalry.

We didn't realize this until it was too late.

I was referring to the manufactured part. Rivals to me have to be (a) goes both ways (b) poor season can be saved if you beat the rival © LONG historical background. Colorado/ K-State / Missouri were short term (about 10 years or less) so a budding rivalry, if it continued more years it would have been a rivalry. OU had many years, but there was more of a mutual respect between the programs. Aside from throwing frozen oranges, things did not get nasty or testy.

Was in Dallas for OU-Texas game. Parking was tight at a popular bar so a pick up with a tow wrench found a car with Oklahoma plates. Hooked up to the car hauled it out to the middle of the street and took its parking place. Police came and towed the Oklahoma care for being double parked.

Toomer's corner.

Revisionist history. They were fully on board with the Game of the Century, which is why we're playing on the 50th anniversary of the game.

Was Texas their #1 rival? Some Oklahoma fans would say yes, some would say no. I've talked to both kinds. Every one of them considered us a rival, that's a surety. Some considered us the rival, and that's also a surety.

Nebraska, in my lifetime, has never had a true two way rivalry. OU-NU was the closest because the conference championship was often on the line. But OU's true rivalry was with Texas. NU-OU was more of a one way rivalry with NU wanting it more, just like Colorado, K-State and Missouri were one way with NU disinterested.

So not having a rivalry in the B1G will not be a point of concern. Back when NU was a national powerhouse, every team would give us their best shot, but our season was not defined by beating team X, but by winning the conference and the bowl game.

So don't feel sorry for us. Just strap on the helmet and get ready for some football!

I disagree. Living in OKC, I talk to alot of the older sooner fans and they still talk about how they wish we still had the yearly games and rather have it then UT (especially since it was after Thanksgiving).

Also, right now I believe we are to Wisconsin as we were to Texas. They didn't think twice about us and all we think about is hoping that we will win the next meeting.
