Player tweets on Pelini firing

Recommended Posts

Fan adoration and $ is very important to heavily recruited players named Johnny Manziel

I fixed it for you.

Seriously, do you think a deer hunter, golfer, or sandlot player needs (or even wants) a roaring crowd to make his sport more enjoyable?...then why would a linebacker or tight end need you? It's exciting whether your seat is filled or not. I know that's a harsh reality to those of you who say "we" when a Nebraska football team takes the field, but do you think the players play with less emotion and enthusiasm at Northwestern, because there are far fewer fans and the are much less vocal?

...or do you "die hard, lifelong fans" need 90,000 seats and cable TV to try to make yourselves part of Alex Henery's kick against Colorado or Ron Kellogg's Hail Mary pass? Making college football a huge spectator industry gives you all a chance to buy into the excitement and make yourself part of those epic games and plays?

How many more times are you gunna say this stuff?

There is a lot of anger from the team towards the fans in these tweets.

You can really see the wedge that has been driven between us. They definitely feel like its them against us.

This has to be healed.

Finnin is displaying another one of the major issues that developed under Bo. We have all seen the disdain that players had towards fans, with a belief that alot of us fans were against them. But that wedge wasn't just driven between players and fans, but also players and the administration.

This, and this.

This split might end up being a sharp contrast to Will Muschamp's classy exit from Floirda where his parting message to the players was -- hey, you have to produce in the end. I didn't, and that's what happens.

This ugliness was inevitable but had to happen sooner or later. And it will pass.

Agreed.

I also don't dig the disrespect for the AD. It's understandable that the players would adore Bo (what player doesn't love their head coach?) and be sad to see him leave. But I think it's unbecoming of an athlete at Nebraska to call the AD out in social media.

In that same vein, I would question the motives of any player who wants to transfer. I could understand it if they were transferring to a school where Bo was coaching, but that's quite unlikely. Thus, if losing Bo is your concern, what good is leaving one program not coached by Bo Pelini for another program not coached by Bo Pelini? Unless, the move is just to spite the university for firing Bo, in which case I'm not sure that's the type of player we want in the program anyway.
