“Every snap, every moment that I get out there is a huge deal for me.”

Freedom will take over a major amount of snaps at DE by mid season. Book It.

We need depth at DE. i'm rooting for Freedom to step up as well. Sounds like he had a good spring. Haven't heard anyone calling Freedom "physically limited", a "red flag", or "serviceable". If Freedom takes a lot of snaps at DE that doesn't mean Gangwish isn't good, it means our defensive line just got that much better. We need depth and rotation at DE.

If someone doesn't step up, I could see some packages with Collins moving to the edge with vv and k Williams inside and McMullen on the other side. That's a lot of hamburger on the line right there.

No, it just puts him in a position to start, when he'd be about 3rd string if we still had talent at the position.

There's no way anyone could know that. Gangwish could have beaten out those guys, or he could have been at the bottom of the depth chart. No way to know.
What? They were far better as underclassmen than Gangwish was as an upperclassman last year. It's a pretty safe bet the far better players would have remained ahead on the depth chart.

Is this bizzaro world?

Safe bet? Yes. Guaranteed Gangwish would be third string? Absolutely not.

It's like some of you don't think he can get better with more coaching and experience. Just because other players were ahead of him when they were underclassmen, doesn't mean that will remain true when they're seniors.

If instead we consider the players as it applies to the team, Gangwish > Moss (at least IMO). No matter how talented at football Moss is or was, Gangwish is still the better player for NU since he'll contribute more than a single season.

Nothing is guaranteed, but I don't believe you really think Gangwish would be ahead of Moss and Gregory if they were still here.

I hope he's significantly better this year, but I'm not counting on it. Seems kind of unfair to him. I think he is what he is.

That's exactly my point. He has physical limitations that no matter how hard he works, he will just be a "contributor" as starting DE. Nothing special.

Physical limitations?.......

Yea 280 pounds of muscle. Lifter of the year. Boy, you better be built like a 700hp Peterbilt to be saying this kid has "physical limitations". No, never mind, it s hilarious to say no matter who you are.

I don't think you know what physical limitations means.

It also sounds like you are saying Gangwish is going to be...First Team All Conference?

Moss as a freshman played in 12 games, started 3. He recorded 36 tackles, 8 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 6 QB hurries, and a pick-6.

Gangwish as a Junior also played in 12 games, started 3. He recorded 19 tackles, 4 TFL, .5 sack, 0 QB hurries, and a forced fumble.

That's a big disparity in production for similar playing time.

HAHA! BOOM! Mic Drop.

Now, I am not going to do it but anyone else can if they want...go back and see how many plays a guy like Moss made because he is physically gifted and has a crazy wingspan...

Why cant we just call it like it is and compromise for the love of god? Jack Gangwish is at best an average defensive end for a mediocre Nebraska football team. But as a walkon from Podunk, NE, thats a pretty special accomplishment and we should all be proud of him for being another epitimy of Husker Football. But my god, just cuz hes a walkon thats gonna start doesnt make him the next Mackovicka or Kelsay brother. And saying otherwise isnt throwing the guy under the bus. Hes an average player and a cool story. Dun.

How dare you insult Podunk, NE!

But, honestly, your post pretty much nailed. If we were talking about Jason Hodges from Minnesota that was a low 3 star with offers from NDSU, Minny and NW...well people would be talking about how worried they were about that DE spot.

Gangwish seems to have the kind of mentality that makes not just himself, but everyone on the team around him better. That's great.

He's not really your pass rush specialist it seems, but no matter. We're pretty light at DE anyway and there is plenty of opportunity in the rotation.

That's kinda it. I think people are letting the endearing small town Nebraska kid story cloud their judgement of our DE situation.

exactly zoogs. His passion and mentality are great. I love it. But rah rahs and throwin the bones dont get off blocks and make tackles. Like is said. Its not a one sided argument.

Clouded judgement? Because he's from small town Nebraska. Get over yourselves, delusional bastards.

I said the kid isn't a red flag, and he isn't physically limited. He's 280 pounds, he's an aggressive, physical kid whom, if you watched, was handling those blocks a whole lot better as the season progressed. He's becoming a leader on the field and in the weight room.

Saying the kid has earned his spot, deserves some credit and respect, is not the same damn thing as saying he's gonna be all-conference, so stop exaggerating my side of the argument to somehow validate your bullsh#t.

Also, the fact that he's from small town Nebraska is particularly appealing to me because I'm a small town Nebraska kid who dreamed about playing football for Nebraska. So yea, I root for these types of kids a bit more than maybe some- not all. It doesn't mean I think they are all the next Heisman trophy winner. It means I understand the road they've taken to get where they are (at least part of it) and I think they deserve our respect. The walk-on tradition is an aspect of Nebraska football that I hold valuable.

And again, just because they deserve our respect, doesn't mean they'll be the next 1st team all conference defensive linemen and in none/zero of my comments did I insinuate that.

Oh, I get it.......

Some of you are still hurting over the raccoon incident.

It all makes sense now. We've got a bunch of PETA Activists on the board.FdR6ESq7.png

The raccoon probably would have been 3rd on the depth chart this year!

Nah, that's a red flag......hes too physically limited.
