Fightin' Erstads @ Big Ten Conference Tournament

Recommended Posts

Single, strike out, and a stolen base....

Fly out for the second out.

Sharpe and Grindle talking how this is an indication of the season. 7-3 lead going into the bottom half and with the bullpen and you would definitely take it.

Grounder ends the inning.

Heading to the top of the 9th, 9-7 Michigan State.

So let's ask the question, where do we go from here?

Obviously we lose two starters, Kubat and Sinclair.

Lose our closer, Roeder

Lose Darby, Cox, Headley, Lubach.

Burkamper will probably stay in the weekend rotation

King may move in as well.

I liked what I saw from Schreiber in the tournament, hit the ball very well.

What do we need to become what we want to become?

This will be unpopular and popular...

DE stays for the long haul...we need to understand that Dave Van Halen (joke) was just really that special and that Husker baseball is what it is.

Fire DE would be fine but to accomplish what? Keeping him is fine but to accomplish what?

I get your point of view, but I think Nebraska can get back to the College World Series. Indiana can do it, so can we. We have resources and the facilities.

I don't want to fire DE and would like him to stay until he wants to retire and I won't have problems with that if we are winning Big Ten conference titles, regionals, winning the super regionals and maybe a couple CWS games here and there.

I do not agree with a firing, but feel both games had some issues with poor coaching decisions. There were some good performances this year and some bad and the coaching was more to the bad than good. New coach, so hopefully he can learn from his mistakes.

Not trying to be a dick but, I have heard this somewhere before.... :ahhhhhhhh

DVH was a great recruiter and did a great job building the program, he has continued that type of coaching at Arkansas. Rob Childress was able to continue that for a few years, and he was helped by some amazing local talent being on the team. The 2005 CWS team had Gordon, Chamberlain, Deunsing, Kroenke who were all in-state guys who ended up playing in the majors. That is once in a generation or lifetime talent coming through the state. I want Nebraska to be great at baseball, but it's a tough proposition. They have great fan support and facilities, but fan support and indoor batting cages don't win baseball games.

I understand the reasoning to a degree, but Erstad seems to overthink himself with the Right/Left hitting lineup cards. He needs to just start his hottest/best players and then make switches if necessary.

On a pitching note, both C. Howell and Chestnut have a chance to be drafted late. Do they stay or go?

(Last year it was a little more clear that both Kelly and Bummer were going to get drafted and go - the same next year with Boldt and Burkamper)
