Kevin Cosgrove's defense gave up 38 points a game.

That number again: 38 points a game.

Bill Callahan's offense was indeed a paper tiger.

Kevin Cosgrove's defense was still a wet fart.

I you remember those games -- I do -- you'll remember that the defense managed to be perfectly appalling independently of the offense.

Fun fact: one of the reasons the offense got so many points in garbage time is because there WAS so much garbage time. That's what happens when your defense is spotting the offense 30 point deficits.

Maybe if Callahan had pounded the rock a bit more we wouldn't have lost to Kansas 76 - 39.

His 2007 defense was about as bad as it gets, sure. But the reason being speaks more to the fractured, defeated mental psyche of the team collectively moreso than it does toward his specific abilities as a coach.

His 2005 defense was 25th in the country in points allowed, and led the nation in sacks, having only two pretty poor outings against Missouri and Kansas, which our offense managed to score 24 and 15 points on, and gain 279 and 138 total yards in, respectively.

His 2006 defense also 25th in the country in points allowed, holding #8 Oklahoma to 21 (starting the game with a fumble setting them up at the 9 yard line) and #10 Auburn to 17 points. It wasn't elite, but it was a championship caliber defense; our offense just didn't show up when it mattered most.

Callahan sucked. Cosgrove sucked. Frank did alright, but wasn't what Nebraska needed at the time. Riley is nothing like Callahan.

Frank sucked like a cheap plastic beach ball. He was certainly not a P5 Head Coach.

What an odd simile.

It's only odd if you never played with a cheap plastic beach ball.
