I saw Thune a few days ago. I wish I would have asked him how he can possibly stand up for Trump like this.

This is a pretty interesting development for me, as I'm really good friends with two of his nephews, and studied theological training under his brother.

Don't take it to mean I know the guy personally. I just saw him in public and could have confronted him had I chosen.

Trump team knew Flynn was under FBI investigation when he tabbed him as NSA

WASHINGTON — Michael T. Flynn told President Trump’s transition team weeks before the inauguration that he was under federal investigation for secretly working as a paid lobbyist for Turkey during the campaign, according to two people familiar with the case.

Despite this warning, which came about a month after the Justice Department notified Mr. Flynn of the inquiry, Mr. Trump made Mr. Flynn his national security adviser. The job gave Mr. Flynn access to the president and nearly every secret held by American intelligence agencies.

Mr. Flynn’s disclosure, on Jan. 4, was first made to the transition team’s chief lawyer, Donald F. McGahn II, who is now the White House counsel. That conversation, and another one two days later between Mr. Flynn’s lawyer and transition lawyers, shows that the Trump team knew about the investigation of Mr. Flynn far earlier than has been previously reported.

Pence took over the Trump transition team on 11/11/16 from Chris Christie.

Gonna be really hard for Pence to show he 1) didn't know this about Flynn, or 2) that he's not incompetent or borderline criminally negligent for not knowing something he should have known two months before inauguration.

Oh but there's more:

Flynn stopped a US military plan against ISIS that Turkey opposed

WASHINGTON - One of the Trump administrations first decisions about the fight against the Islamic State was made by Michael Flynn weeks before he was fired and it conformed to the wishes of Turkey, whose interests, unbeknownst to anyone in Washington, hed been paid more than $500,000 to represent.

The decision came 10 days before Donald Trump had been sworn in as president, in a conversation with President Barack Obamas national security adviser, Susan Rice, who had explained the Pentagons plan to retake the Islamic States de facto capital of Raqqa with Syrian Kurdish forces whom the Pentagon considered the U.S.s most effective military partners. Obamas national security team had decided to ask for Trumps sign-off, since the plan would all but certainly be executed after Trump had become president.

Flynn didnt hesitate. According to timelines distributed by members of Congress in the weeks since, Flynn told Rice to hold off, a move that would delay the military operation for months.

If Flynn explained his answer, thats not recorded, and its not known whether he consulted anyone else on the transition team before rendering his verdict. But his position was consistent with the wishes of Turkey, which had long opposed the United States partnering with the Kurdish forces and which was his undeclared client.

Trump eventually would approve the Raqqa plan, but not until weeks after Flynn had been fired.

If Flynn changed our national security plans because of financial incentives from a foreign power, that's treason. Pretty cut and dry.

They'd have to flesh that allegation out using his records or sworn testimony of those who know, but if they can, Flynn will be going away for a long time.

Pence seems like either a liar or incompetent in this whole situation.

I think this will be really hard to prove unless Flynn admits it. All he has to say is that they wanted to wait until after Trump took office to make a decision.

Flynn's lawyer is saying he won't honor the subpoena.

Michael Flynn refuses to honor Senate subpoena

Trump's ousted National Security Advisor Michael Flynn who resigned over his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak will not honor the Senate Intel Committee's subpoena, per the AP. His lawyers informed the committee of his refusal.

Context: This comes after reports that Trump asks Comey to drop the Flynn probe, and the news Wednesday evening that Trump's team knew Flynn was under investigation before he came to the White House. There is also currently a grand jury investigation into Flynn's foreign lobbying.

So....like I asked in another thread.

Doesn't this send him to jail?

Likely, for contempt. But for him it's probably better to go to jail for contempt than have the rest of his life ruined for treason.

But really, it's more likely that Trump, who has recently contacted Flynn with a "stay strong" message, will just pardon him. I'd expect that to happen sooner rather than later.

Then all the Trumpettes will scream about how it's legal for Trump to do that, and accuse anyone who's not on board with that with "whining" or whatever the term is that Brietbart or Drudge are feeding them that day.
