If someone just went around telling people to STFU, I would have a problem with it.

But, I’ve witnessed Situations where some is being a sort of bully with their political opinions and in that situation, STFU, could be very appropriate.

An office can have major issues when one person feels they can bully everyone around and everyone should agree with them on issues that have nothing to do with work....politics is one of those issues.

In fact, I don’t want politics even discussed at work. It is way too divisive of a topic. So, if someone is being over bearing talking politics, then people need to stand up to them and cut it off.

And.....no. Nobody is going to tell me to STFU.....mainly because I don’t discuss politics at work.

Did you fire them both?

On a related note, my boss curses like a sailor and I love it. For whatever reason cursing always cracks me up when it's not done in a mean way, especially if it's from an authority figure. I had a professor once who cursed all the time in front of the whole class and it was hilarious.

Is there such things as warnings in your workplace? Sounds like you have a zero tolerance policy scenario going on

I would be canned and anyone would in my school would be canned for telling another teacher or student to shut the f#&% up...

There is not a profession in the states that has more leeway than a PhD...Those girls/guys have it made...except for the publish part...

Even in the teacher's lounge? I'm not surprised though. That's a unique work environment. And I think it's probably the right thing to fire a teacher who talks that way to a student. It's just not the type of relationship where it's okay.

Sadly the lounge has become a different place....years ago you could smoke, make fun of students and parents...that is no longer the case...It is now more of a "oh really...you mowed your lawn on Sunday instead of Friday?" type of place.

That's sad I always imagined it as a place where you scheme to get the principal fired so you can take his place and then meet the guy you're most jealous of in the almost-afterlife. I'd think it would be hard to have that job and not complain about the students.
