"Nebraska's 11 graduates from the football program include All-Big Ten defensive back Dicaprio Bootle, who earned his management degree prior to entering his senior season in 2020. Junior defensive line starter Ben Stille also earned his degree prior to his senior season on the field. Stille, a nutrition and health sciences major, was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2019. A third junior, Deontai Williams, added a bachelor's degree prior to his senior season as well. Five 2019 seniors, including Isaac Armstrong, Alex Davis, Christian Gaylord and Jackson Walker, were joined by Tyrin Ferguson, Pernell Jefferson and Jacob Weinmaster as Husker football graduates"

So you're saying we should get rid of Bootle, Stille, and Williams who will all be starters next year?

Did I say that, I believe I was pretty specific on “non contributors”. Reading comprehension is key, don’t you think.

And the coaching staff should do that for him? Wouldn’t he put himself in the portal?

The coaching staff should have a conversation with all players in Pernells position and help them decide what is best for everyone involved. I'm not saying dump him at all. I'm saying some of these players do want to see the field and some want to move on to their careers. Sometimes people don't want to give up on the team on their own for various reasons but having a conversation about the players standing on the depth chart and likelyhood of playing time can change someone's perspective. I don't imagine our staff will do kids dirty in this regard or force them out. It's not like that, anyone who wants to stay on the team is welcome to stay.

This is all I’m saying.  I know many don’t like it but don’t understand why it’s seen as controversial at all.  I don’t want to use a scholarship for a 4/5 yr locker room cheerleader or court jester.  Btw, while somebody mentioned PJ first, he’s but one example of many that could use a nudge in a different direction.  Had some 5th yr guys this year that would fit that criteria too.

“Non contributors” is pretty clear.  You think the guys you mentioned fit that definition.

That's pretty subjective term, as evidenced by the debate by some in the thread over a player like Jefferson.

I get the sense you'd rather be short with me than provide anyone you're specifically talking about, so I hope you have a great day.

I think some guys contribute in more ways than the stat line or playing time. I would assume if they've graduated and aren't contributing in any manner that the coaches/program are already trying to help them move on. In fact it's kind of ridiculous to think or expect anything different. And really, why would a graduate who pretty much knows he's not going to see the field want to stick around? I guess I don't see this being a problem that needs a different approach.

From what I hear football is quite arduous. Not sure why anyone would stick around if they weren’t going to end up seeing the field or getting some reward for their efforts.

my guess is they bring something to the team that can’t be judged by a stat line

Cool, yes pernell Jefferson is one, a very Anderson, diashon Neal another.  I guarantee can find others with a quick roster search, certainly on the oline.  It was actually worse with other coaches.  It’s really not that subjective, stat sheets are pretty easy to look up.  I get that guys contribute in other ways.  If your not in the 3/4 deep as a jr/sr, specifically a RS, you’d have to prove a new body couldn’t do the same or better.

Not sure as well, however it happens somewhat often as indicated by several examples

Nobody suggested that.

I think you did-graduating Jr’s with no stat lines, being moved on. And then wouldn’t mention a specific player so I interpreted that to mean all graduating Jrs with no stat lines should be removed from the roster.

You nor I are not privy to know what’s going on within the program. But for the record,  I do not support having to renew players scholarships during their eligibility.

I’m still confused. They’ve graduated so the university has provided what they promised.

I also don’t see any juniors that graduated that I would want to cut.

Jefferson is also a senior that graduated so I’m not sure why he’s part of the conversation.

I’m so confused.

That's not what his roster profile says but that was just an example of someone who hasn't seen the field and likely won't
