Scarlet
But let's vote for this analphabetic, witless, callow, philistinic, and perfidious narcissistic sociopath. Not once but twice in some cases and a third time if given the chance. Link to comment
TGHusker
One thing to remember about Pence is that while his statement yesterday was right and needed to be said, he was reluctant to take such a stand and had to be convinced by Dan Quayle to do the right thing - this article from Sept 2021 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/09/14/new-details-undermine-pences-supposed-hero-turn-jan-6/?pwapi_token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWJpZCI6IjM4MzI0MTg4IiwicmVhc29uIjoiZ2lmdCIsIm5iZiI6MTY0NDA2NDc0MSwiaXNzIjoic3Vic2NyaXB0aW9ucyIsImV4cCI6MTY0NTI3NDM0MSwiaWF0IjoxNjQ0MDY0NzQxLCJqdGkiOiIyYjA1Mjc5Ny1iYjAxLTRiZGQtYWE0Ny0xYWQ1YmU1YzI5ZGYiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3d3dy53YXNoaW5ndG9ucG9zdC5jb20vcG9saXRpY3MvMjAyMS8wOS8xNC9uZXctZGV0YWlscy11bmRlcm1pbmUtcGVuY2VzLXN1cHBvc2VkLWhlcm8tdHVybi1qYW4tNi8ifQ.g7IATwRbivaIGdxbqSrtK0_Ml_YfiZ6IEI9S_ZUFHQo Quote The narrative wrote itself. Then-Vice President Mike Pence, who had loyally and often obsequiously stuck by President Donald Trump through thick and thin, suddenly bucked him when his presidency was on the line. Trump wanted Pence to help overturn the results of the electoral college vote on Jan. 6, but Pence refused — even as rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol called for his hanging — all while professing to do so out of principle and loyalty to the Constitution. Quote He was hailed even by some of the administration’s critics as an unlikely hero, the savior of the republic and more. The reality, we’re now finding out, is far from so neat and tidy. It appears less as though Pence said “enough is enough,” and more as though he really entertained doing Trump’s bidding but found that he had no actual authority to make it happen. But perhaps Headline 1(a) involves new details about Pence’s fateful decision not to heed Trump’s calls to unilaterally help him stay in office. And it involves a cameo appearance from a man you might not have thought about for some time: Dan Quayle. From today’s story by Isaac Stanley-Becker: So intent was Pence on being Trump’s loyal second-in-command — and potential successor — that he asked confidants if there were ways he could accede to Trump’s demands and avoid certifying the results of the election on Jan. 6. In late December, the authors reveal, Pence called Dan Quayle, a former vice president and fellow Indiana Republican, for advice. Quayle was adamant, according to the authors. “Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away,” he said. But Pence pressed him, the authors write, asking if there were any grounds to pause the certification because of ongoing legal challenges. Quayle was unmoved, and Pence ultimately agreed, according to the book. Further details from the book reveal that, in the course of their conversations, Pence also echoed Trump’s false claims that the election results in Arizona were faulty. 1 2 1 Link to comment

nic
Not sure where this belongs, but it’s the first I have heard of it. Changing some of the language in the act so the VP can’t discount the vote for example…, basically making it clear it’s a ceremonial certification. https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/06/politics/manchin-murkowski-electoral-count-act-cnntv/index.html 1 1 Link to comment

Scarlet
Long thread here worth reading for anyone who might be losing faith that the DOJ isn't on top of the prosecution of those who would overturn our democracy. Any charges they bring have to be ironclad considering bringing charges against the Trump mafia will inevitably result in some sort of violence from his cult. But why are more Republicans starting to speak out against Trump albeit timidly? They seem to be reading the tea leaves and want to cover their bases when it all caves in. 1 Link to comment

Or, they know it's not a nothing burger and they are scared s#!tless. One of the two. Actually, there probably is a few that are scared s#!tless....like the leader of the party.....and the rest are fighting like hell to protect them/him. 3 Link to comment
TGHusker
One could debate if Trump or Buchanan was the worse president. Buchanan - did nothing to stop the civil war from starting stating that the federal govt couldn't stop states from seceding. Trump corrupted the nation and caused the greatest crisis in DC since the civil war. 1 Link to comment
