Don't tell ESPN or the National Media, because they have their specific agenda to prop up Wembanyama all day and night long, but....

 

The Dallas Mavericks rookie center Dereck Lively stole the show from him, Luka Doncic had a triple-double, and the Mavericks beat the Spurs, Popovich and Wembanyama in the season opener.

 

Lively - just 19 years old - had never scored 13 points in a game during his one year playing center for Duke last season. 

 

However, the 7'1" rookie center for Dallas outplayed the Spurs rookie center Wembanyama, who is being hailed as the greatest rookie since LeBron James.  

 

Stat sheet: 

Lively 16 points (7-8 shooting), 10 rebounds (5 off/5def), 1 block

Wemby 15 points (6-9 shooting), 5 rebounds (all defensive), 1 block

Historic achievement for Luka, becoming the third NBA player in history to record a 30-point triple-double on opening night.  Joining Giannis, and Oscar Robertson (who did it in 1961 and 1968).  

 

Just think of all of the Hall-of-Famers that played in the NBA since the 1970s (and current guys) that never accomplished this feat before - LeBron, Jordan, Bird, Magic, Curry, Durrant, Jokic, etc, etc

 

Spurs coach Popovich called it "average" lol

Lebron dropped "ish" twice last night after the Suns/Lakers game.  Two nights in a row, I'm betting we will see Silver drop some fines today to prevent this from becoming a regular occurrence.

Speaks to how much is expected of Luka, dropping 30 point triple doubles is just ehh, routine for him.

Technically correct. Jokic did put up 29-13-11 on opening night the day before…on slightly better efficiency….against a better team.

Not sure if yall seen this, but FORMER NBA player Kenyon Martin doesn't think Luka Doncic is the best team on the Mavericks.  He clearly says it's Kyrie Irving.    Loonie Tunes

56% shooting from the field, 48% from 3pt line (12.6 shots per game on 3's)....... ......  36 minutes per game

 

Kyrie Irving

19 points per game, 4.5 reb/game (yep they are both guards), 6.0 ast/pg (both guys are guards), shooting 39% from the field, shooting 16% from three-point land...........   35 minutes per game
