  1. This may be one of those kids we have to trust the coaches on. I'm guessing we knew of him and just decided to offer this weekend. Perhaps the coaches are tired of the games a few of the other recruits are playing and wanted to make a statement. On the other hand maybe a few recruits said no to Nebr and we took Leroy to fill a need. I don't think he is a kid who can come in and play this fall from looking at film, but he has the measurables to be good. Tall with good speed, if he has the heart he'll do well.
  2. He is being recruited as an athlete but expected to play DB. The link: http://rivals.yahoo.com/nebraska/football/recruiting/player-LeRoy-Alexander-119127 It would appear he has some speed at 4.42. I believe Vince Marrow coached him in high school in Toledo.
  3. This is a most interesting thread with lots of good info. My history of exercise was mostly running for track and cross country. Weight lifting wasn't a part of any routine in my high school in the 60's. (Graduated in 1970). I started playing basketball in college and became addicted. I've been fortunate enough to play BB in leagues then at the local Y (3 days a week). I started lifting in the late 80's. Nothing heavy, just enough to shape up some middle age spread. I recently had foot surgury that will keep me off the BB courts till at least summer and not really sure I'll ever play again. Are ellipitical machines the best source of cardio exercise for this situation? I don't enjoy swimming at all. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs now and would like to keep my girlish figure. Any tips would be appreciated.
  4. My condolences for your loss Husker 37. May the Lord give you peace. Let the great memories comfort you in the coming weeks and months.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIXAywCS5Vs Joe will be in Omaha in April. I may have to see this one!
  6. Any pics of the socks? It didn't register with me during the game.
  7. I remember seeing Derek Slaughter's HS tape and was excited by his speed and ability to find the ball. I know it may not have been the best of competition. I'm pulling for him to do well.
  8. It's great to see the west coast Husker clan still out in force. I don't have your info but wish you the best of luck and hope you get to make many good memories. I did look at Huskers.com to see what info they have. They still have last years schedule up it appears. Their number is (402) 472-3111. They might be able to let you know when away game tickets might go on sale. GBR!
  9. My thoughts aren't so much about Fuller. I wonder if ND will make another run at Westercamp and try to sway him again now with this new 5* Qb. I really feel like Jordan likes Nebraska and wants to be here. His mom, like Kiels mom, wants him at ND. I hope she understands the Huskers will be making lots of trips east so she will be able to see him play relatively close to home.
  10. ESPN is reporting that former Indiana commit, who then gave a verbal to LSU, is now leaning to the Irish. Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/58404/video-qb-prospect-reportedly-picks-irish I'm not sure this affects the Huskers greatly because we were never in the running for his services. I hope all our commits are locked in.
  11. I have my time machine working again so we could go back and try to talk to our past coaches and a few players into becoming Huskers. Who wants to go with me?
  12. NU had his LOI signed and delivered. The draft came afterwards. Can't really see how this was a failure when you look at the career he has had in the MLB to date. I do agree with you that if Carl had chosen football, the Clownahan era never occurs. Carlyle Holiday is another tough one that NU lost to ND. He could have been a very smooth option QB here I didn't realize he had delivered the LOI. I knew he chose baseball instead of football and Frank knew his job just got tougher.
  13. None of us knew for sure when he committed that LD would be the linebacker he became the last two years. If our new crop of recruits bring anything close to what he delivered in talent and smarts we'll have a solid class at that spot.
  14. The failure to obtain Carl Crawfords LOI was something that probably changed Husker History for years. Had he come to play QB under Solich he would have been the QB after Crouch and Jamal Lord could have been the D Back he was intended to be. I'm not saying CC would have guaranteed us a top 5 finish but we'd have been better no doubt and might have saved Solich's career here......so we could still be debating that!
  15. Figure the number of snaps or the time of possession our defense (09) was on the field compared to other top ten teams and our defense looks even better. Our offense had trouble moving the chains and only Alex Henry's punting kept other teams from having better field position.
  16. As far as Jim Rome....the guy is irritating! I can listen to his "clones" verbiage for about 5 mins then I have to find something to cleanse my ears.
  17. From what we've seen of other juco Db's in the past, while they may be extremely gifted, it takes about half a season or longer before they adjust to the speed of the D1 game. Having him here now to workout, get stronger and watch film will be a good thing. The coaches will get him ready to play as soon as they can.
  18. In a head to head matchup of NU 95 vs Alabama 11, it might have been a pretty good game for 1 quarter. I doubt Alabama would have scored much more than they did in their game with LSU. They wouldn't have had much success running between the tackles. They wouldn't have been able to get outside our DE's either. Our DB's would have shut down their passing attack for the most part. On the other side, while Alabama wouldn't have seen our option game during the season, Saban would have had 50 days to prep for it. LSU's efforts at the option were weak at best and the Huskers would have been a much better test of their defense. By the middle of the 3rd qtr I think TO would have found the chinks in their armor and conditioning would have been a factor. I'll say the score would have been 27-17 Huskers
  19. Exactly, this whole SEC run, while ESPN blows themselves over it all day, is cyclical, just like anything else in college sports. At some point in time, someone is going to crack the code on how to tap into their talent down there, and then it's game over. Things can change quickly on the college scene. While the SEC as a conference will probably be strong for years to come, individual teams can change in short order. Before Urban Meyer left Fla there was no end in sight to their success. Tennessee seemed to string together strong teams year in and year out. While it's doubtful the NCAA will find any wrongdoing in their cashcow teams, that possibility exists. Saban could decide to retire for health reasons as could Miles. Life has a way of evening out teams success level. Who could have foreseen Nebraska's fast tumble out of the top ten in 1997 before Tom retired. It seemed like there was no end to the pipeline, running backs and great qb's who would come here to play. Don't think Nebraska can't find it's way back to the top ten consistantly. A few players on defense who have the light go on in the Pelini system and an upgrade at a few positions on offense, improvement in special teams and we'll be on even ground with the 2nd tier teams. Today I'm putting teams like Alabama, LSU, Okla St, Stanford and Oregon in the top tier...possibly USC as soon as they come off probation. 2nd tier would include teams like Georgia, Arkansas, probably Okla if they hadn't lost Broyles, Boise St (most years), Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio St (again most years) West Virg looked lightning fast, and probably Virg Tech. If we played 12 games against the teams I mentioned we would probably win 2 0r 3 games at most. My hope is we can get on even footing with better recruiting. Last year and I think this year will be the start of the turnaround. In a few years our coaches will have matured enough to see the finer details they seem to be missing now. Better days are ahead!
  20. My thoughts too. If Peat is the player we hope he is maybe he could anchor the middle. I hope he has replaced his high school fat with Husker weight room muscle and is ready to be a force inside.
  21. I have heard that Bo's scheme is very difficult to learn. Even harder than some pro teams defensive system. I wonder if he would pare it down enough so some of this fast young talent could get on the field sooner? With so many good young linebackers available might he go with a 3-4 sometimes to confuse the defense and get more speed on the field?
  22. Newspaper writers everywhere have one goal these days. Report the news as it is? Far from it! Their goal is to sell newspapers and if that means they need to drum up some controversy to do it, they always have and always will. I'm sure their editors have told them the bottom line and for hard print papers these days, that line is close to red in most cases. Tom is just trolling for some response to see if anything grabs the bate. After the bowl game there is always some discontent. As soon as signing day passes we'll mostly be drinking the kool-aid again about how this new crop will lead us to the promised land again finally. Only about 10 schools get most of the kids they go after. The rest of the 120 odd schools get to fight for the scraps left over. Every year it's a crap shoot and Bo and the coaches have to find a way to coach them up. The good talent we have is mostly young but the learning curve is high. Bo isn't perfect and neither are the young coaches.....they win some and lose some. I'm not ready to throw away 4 years of hard work because we "only" have 9 win seasons. About 100 other Div 1 programs would love to have a 9 win season.
  23. Congrats to the Huskers on the win vs OSU!
