  1. I would say garbage is way too strong. If you go and watch almost every sack Nebraska has got this year, they are coverage sacks. I am not going to sit here and say the defense as a whole has been great, but the secondary coverage has been decent. Decent doesn't mean great or even good. With a better pass rush they would be better. Again if the secondary is in pass coverage too long someone is eventually going to come open. The opposing coaches are picking on the linebackers most the time, throwing the underneath stuff. Our Lbs don't cover up real well and they are getting exploited. Our d-line is actually pretty good at doing what the are suppose to do except they don't get enough pressure on the QB with just 4 guys. I would say our d-line is just as good as Wisconsin's and will actually be better this week with Williams out. The problem is that Wisconsin's d-line gets paired with probably the best starting 4 linebackers in the B1G and then the secondary is probably top 5.
  2. The secondary as a whole has played decent this year. The problem is that they have got no help with a pass rush. When you are covering 4+ seconds someone is going to come open eventually. Jackson and Bootle have both played pretty well. Jackson will go no later than the 3rd round. The linebackers have been horrible in coverage.
  3. Not pining for the record. I disagree that an espn writer shows up during a bye week and writes that article if the sit 6-3 right now. I can truthfully say if they were 6-3 right now that would be about where I thought they would be. I predicted 8-4 on the year.
  4. This is actually a pretty sad statistic. This is what Nebraska's o-line depth chart used to look like. Remember guys that would be seniors this year are Gaylord, Jalen Barrett, Mike Decker. We may get Gaylord back for a hardship next year, but the other 2 gave up football.
  5. Not really the way I look at it. Against Illinois and NW Nebraska made plays to win the game at the end. Against Purdue and Indiana they didn't. Indiana and Purdue made the plays to win the game.
  6. It is an easy story to write when the team is 4-5. A couple more stops or a couple more TD's and the record is 6-3 and the story isn't written.
  7. The position coach is the guy who worries about putting in players. But, if a player goes down injured or has an equipment problem the next man on depth chart automatically goes into the game unless a coach specifically tells them not to do it. In the Purdue game I think Robinson was dinged up and Mills had a shoe come off or something. My guess is he went into the game without even being told anything one way or another. But with that being said, if he goes in the game he might as well play more than 1 play in that game. On the subject of the thread. I am not apathetic about the season. I wouldn't be posting and talking about if I was apathetic. College football season is the shortest of all the sports seasons. It is basically 3 months long. Nebraska is my team, and I love to see them win, but I like to watch college football in general. I had the TV on all day Saturday while I got things ready for a dinner party at our house. After everyone left I watched the end of the BSU/Wyoming game. I am really mad about the last 2 games. They should have won them. I want to see them win the games that they should win. I will watch every Nebraska game left this year, because I like college football and they are my team.
  8. No, I think he spoke way to highly of his team. I don't know if he really believed it or if he was trying to pump up his team. But, he oversold his team. There is a difference between saying if we keep improving we can be good vs. we are better at most positions and are looking good. There are a lot of reason's this team is not as good as the year before. Losing the guys you mentioned is a huge part of it. They were good players and have not been replaced with players that are not equal. But, losing those guys talent was one thing, they also lost a ton of leadership that has not been replaced. This senior class is not even close to having leaders. I mean how does a grad transfer senior come on a team for 3 months and then get elected a captain. That tells me they are short on leadership. This team lacks mature talent and leadership. With all that being said they still should have beat Colorado and Purdue and maybe even Indiana. Though I think Indiana is a decent team. At a minimum this team should be 6-3 right now. I think Frost is frustrated by that. Players make plays. Frost and Company have made mistakes this year, but you can tell he is completely baffled by the sluggish play in the 3rd quarter. When you have never experienced something like that it is hard to fix. I think he is frustrated by AM play this year. He knows he is the best chance to win, but he hasn't played great. The problem is he hasn't played terrible, he just hasn't played as well as last year. He has shown flashes, just not anything that is consistent. The fact that our very good kicker has been hurt almost all year has hurt this team also.
  9. The only real failure in recruiting Burrow lies with Bo Pelini and Tim Beck. He really wanted to come to Nebraska out of HS. He was rated a high 3* or 4* depending on the recruiting site. For what ever reason Beck wasn't impressed and didn't recruit him at all. All they had to do was offer a scholarship and he would have been Nebraska bound. This was in 2014, so Burrow took a scholarship offer from Ohio St. After BP was fired Mike Riley and Co tried to get back in on him. Offered a scholarship, but he stuck with his commitment to OSU. It was basically the same scenario with Noah Fant. BP only wanted him as a D-End, Iowa wanted him as a TE. Riley tried to get back in on him, but it didn't work.
  10. This is exactly the way it was with BP. His run fits were to precise, he didn't want to over commit to stopping the run, because it would make him less sound against the pass. He wouldn't drop a safety down a little closer to the LOS to help in run support. So Wisconsin would just run for 400 yards against his defense. Seriously though, If you go back and watch some of those BP coached teams against Wisconsin they would often hold up fairly well against the run for 2-3 series and they would get out of a run fit and someone would rip off a 65 yard TD run and the flood gates would be opened.
  11. The linebacker was blitzing. The safety needs to fill faster and they probably don't get the 1st down. edit: sorry didn't look real close on first viewing. Thought it was 3rd and 3 not 3rd and half a yard. Still should have filled faster.
  12. OK, never even looked at their measurables. They all look the same though. They play fast, because they know what they are doing and they are super aggressive. Last year the had some injuries that got some guys a lot of experience. I would still love to have them playing at Nebraska.
  13. Linebackers are by far the worse part of this defense. This IMO ia more important than having a great NG in a 3-4 having great linebackers. When you can combine that with a great NG then you have something special. Our d-line is actually pretty decent. Are linebackers are terrible. Wisconsin has a fairly average d-line and NG they have excellent linebackers. I mean lets look at the linebackers that are playing. Alex Davis is a converted 4-3 d-end that played 1 year of HS football. He looks the part, but doesn't play the part at all. Caleb Tanner is a little young and a little light to play the spot so far could have used a RS year. Nelson is physically ready, but isn't ready to be the man as a true freshman. JoJo is a converted safety Ferguson- it is my understanding is checked out and just going through the motions. That is why he doesn't play. Barry- Has gained too much wt and has slowed down. He is not a good fit for the 3-4. He is a much better weak side 4-3 backer. Honas has slowed down due to his ACL injury. He is also better suited to the 4-3. Miller is a converted d-end that is probably a step slow to play linebacker. That is our linebacker core. Wisconsin goes 2 deep of guys that are all between 6'2" and 6'4". They all are about 240lbs and can run and are super aggressive. They aren't nearly as athletic as say guys at OSU, but I would kill to have those linebackers. Even with all that said they need to put them in a better situation on defense. They can't have them trying to do something they can't do. Like chasing a RB on crossing patterns.
  14. Well, if that were true this would explain a lot IMO.
  15. Bill Jennings, the coach Devaney replaced was actually a pretty good recruiter. He just wasn't a very good coach. Devaney said as much when he got here. There was actually a good amount of talent on the team he inherited. Yes Devaney did turn down the Nebraska job at least once. Back in 1962 Wyoming was actually considered a pretty good job. The had quite a bit of success in football throughout the 50's and 60's.
  16. Well, for one the 3 teams you are probably talking about beating are not as good as OSU or Minnesota for that matter. So we do have that going for us. Indiana is decent, but their non conference wins are against teams that are not very good and in conference they have beat Rutgers the worst team in the league and Maryland the biggest bipolar team I have ever seen. Lets play the games and see what happens.
  17. Klatt is good not a huge Colin Cowherd fan. He makes some really good points in this segment.
  18. And you are entitled to that opinion just like I am to mine.
  19. I personally would say no, Minnesota 2019 was not even close to that low. Nebraska didn't play well against Minnesota and Minnesota played pretty well. If they played again I don't think it looks exactly the same. PSU, OSU and Iowa in 2017 would look the same, because that team quit. I don't feel like they quit against Minnesota. Part of the problem with the loss to Minnesota is that no one really thought Minnesota was that good going into the game, me included. I think they are a pretty good team. We will see how good as the last games play out, but right now they are hitting on all cylinders, I think every week they are getting better. One thing people need to remember about Minnesota they were 9-4 the year before PJ Fleck took over. It was not like they didn't have some talent. Their seniors on this team were on that team. Their top 2 RB were on that team. They just had some off the field problems that got Clayes fired.
  20. At this time in my life I just want to see a good product on the field, that represents well. I think we will get to a level that we can expect at least an 8-4 season every year with better season's mixed into it. They days of having a 2 loss season being disappointing are over IMO. That is not just for Nebraska that is for most college football teams. I just like watching college football and my team is Nebraska. My son and I are coming back to Nebraska for the Wisconsin game. I booked this 3 months ago. After the loss at Minnesota my wife basically said it was a waste of money to go to the game. It really pissed me off. She sounded just like her father who wouldn't walk across the street to watch a sporting event. I told her she sounded like her dad. She then backtracked and said she just meant it wasn't going to be a good game. I really don't care. I am spending the weekend with my 16 year old son. Going to do something that I did with my dad. We will have a good time whether they win or get their butts kicked. I want Nebraska to be good and relevant in the world of college football again. I just don't think it is going to happen on a consistent basis. They will have some really good years, but their will always be a few 8-4 or even 7-5 season mixed into that.
  21. I wouldn't put Johnny even in the top 100. Singing is such a subjective thing. I would have Freddie Mercury in the top 10 at least. People like what they like.
  22. I can see elements of all of those movies in the Joker. Saw it on Sunday. I liked it OK, not something I really want to see again though. Not really my kind of movie. Both my sons liked it a lot.
  23. Yeah, I saw PJ talking about this in his PC on Tuesday. I think it is probably a lot of smoke being blown up people's asses. Doing wet ball drills and practicing in the cold is pretty standard stuff. I would take the whole dipping our hands in ice water with a grain of salt.
  24. I agree, Martinez has had some happy feet. Three Mississippi's is pretty good protection for the most part. The bad snaps are messing up the running game more than the passing game. The pass pro has been all right, not spectacular but all right. As far as penalties are concerned I think our holding calls are down. Don't have any numbers, but I think they are. The 5 yarders are as big a killer as anything. Going from second and 4 to second and 9 really changes what you have to do.
  25. Wow, that is about the nicest thing you would ever here Severe say about Nebraska. He usually has some offbeat negative thing to say.
