  1. I think a really good quarterback could make Langsdorf look really good. I think the defense has changed it's style in the last few games and taking chances instead of laying back waiting to get beat has paid off big time....so has looking for and intercepting the ball. Better linebacker/safety play will continue to shore up the D in both rush and pass protection. I think we could get good enough to win the games we should win in this weak division....even if Langs calls passes on 4th and 1. Did you see other teams in our division that looked special? Didn't think so. Even mighty Iowa only won by 8 with the help of our turnover machine and the dumbest play calling. Of course, I thought that this year.
  2. I get the feeling from listening to sports shows talking about coach hires that there aren't many experienced coaches available who are worth writing home to ma about. They seem to be as likely to go with an assistant who knows the program or start from scratch with a first year head coach. I'm thinking that some of the old-timey coaches just don't know what to do with the new game.
  3. Sounds like a great opportunity for Frosty. I'll go ahead and predict that he'll do well by the second season.
  4. I'm thinking maybe it'll be somebody else and them against the world. No reason the quarterback position should be treated different than any other position. But this staff seems more concerned with fitting in than winning...so who knows?
  5. Hey, maybe Johnny is that JUCO transfer we need?
  6. Are you talking about UN-Kearney?
  7. This should be a hilarious subject....better than talking about other things that ain't gonna happen, like firing the Riley. Who should be the Head Coach, OC ,DC, etc....?
  8. Riley will not be fired so asking about it doesn't make much sense. After next year when Perlman is gone ,who knows....maybe the booster-regents will look another direction if next year ends up like this one?? I kinda doubt that as well, unless donations severely drop and apathy sets in. At the moment we have the University /media complex calling the pass on 4th and 1 a good call, so that tells you where we're at. Hey, how did that basketball team do in the Barkleys Tournament?
  9. I guess I'd be for Virginia's on Cornhusker or that Mexican omelet at Shoemaker's truck stop. The QB situation is as much a matter of camaraderie as anything, not sure what the result would be if you yanked Tommy out and started with a new guy....maybe better, maybe worse. Seems like the coaches are trying to keep a lopsided apple cart upright, walking on eggshells or whatever other analogy people like.
  10. I'm gonna keep thinking like an ordinary Husker fan and say 10-2 is expected from that schedule....9-3 minimum. If a new QB shows up who is a super stud, could go undefeated.
  11. The point I took away is the fact that NU has a dusty trophy case since the 90's yet, us husker fans alike scream and shout how great our program is...when teams like Iowa are achieving what we think we are. Iowa's weak ass schedule....pfft. Weak cuz of why? Playing in the same division as Nebraska? They are 12-0, and if the roles were reversed, everyone on here would be SCREAMING about how it's so tough in this day and age to go unbeaten blah blah blah.... No we wouldn't. 2001 is case in point. We're a smart enough fan base to know when we're not the real deal and don't belong. Iowa is going to get rolled, either in Indy or if they make it to the playoffs. We just as easily could have gone undefeated this year with a weak ass schedule, oddly we were close to doing it... How exactly is 5-7 "close to undefeated"? This shouldn't need explaining. 4 games tied or leading with 11 seconds left in the game. Gifted a game to Iowa. 6 games a combined 28 points. The only gane we weren't in was Turdue. See, I take the close losses as the trend, and the Michigan State win as the aberration. There were more close losses than close wins. For anyone to say that NU was close to being undefeated needs their head examined. I think they mean we were close to being undefeated had we had different coaches, a different QB, different O linemen, and a defense that played to win the entire year. If not for that we'd be in the playoffs for sure.
  12. I guess I didn't realize that Kansas State is as bad as us. Maybe we could play them in the Smurf Bowl.
  13. You cannot advance a muffed punt. If the deep man had gained possesion then fumbled, we could have advanced it. Why? And is this a new rule? Why? Because... It's been a rule as long as I can remember. There's really no good reason for it, other than the kicking team will score 99 percent of the time. Maybe it's to give the muffing team a sporting chance. As a muffer, I'm thankful that for once they gave us a fighting chance.
  14. Yes, CONGRATULATIONS IOWA!, go represent our division.
  15. Probably the worst play call/decision I've seen in 50+ years of FB watching. Still can't believe it. Tommy chose to make that pass. He had options and he chose the worst one. There was a guy wide open to his left in the flats beyond he sticks. Gee golly, perhaps you'd be a dumber coach than the guy you're criticizing...moron. I'd call a running play, quite frankly, you know, since we had ~1/2 yd to get the 1st. But hey, give TA another chance to throw a pick or make a bonehead read.... Would have been a nice time to give it to Janovich on senior day... SHAZAAAM!!!
  16. 1000 years combined experience. 'It's 4th and 1...golly, should we throw the fade?'......there's that.
  17. We've all seen the backups in the Spring Game and decided who we thought was best or deserved a shot....then Fyfe was put at #2....then Fyfe threatened leaving ....then Fyfe put back at #2.....Armstrong played 11 games, Fyfe played one......you saw the result......you tell me what their plan is, if there's a plan, what Bush and Darlington think, whether O'Brian or another QB will see the field next year.
  18. I did a search to see if we had any Jucos even on the radar at one time and found this kid. http://247sports.com/Player/Andrew-Ford-15639 No way....the last two staffs evaluated the talent and came up with Ryker Fyfe as the #2 quarterback. No reason to think the coach who specializes in teaching quarterbacks won't have one of the experienced backups ready to go by next fall. We need a guy who knows our system and will buy into it....that's the problem....not just any quarterback knows where to go with the pass on 4th and 1.
  19. That's what I saw....an Iowa team that didn't look like anything special but maintained their positions, sitting back and waiting for Tommy to throw up a jump ball exactly like he did 50 times on film and looking for a defect in our defense to exploit. You guys do realize that our offense got twice as many yards as theirs? We've had no ball control all year.
  20. This is easy and it's about the same thing that happened to Westy and wasn't called in the MSU game...he's falling to the ground ,so you can push him with your hands ,but the one thing you CAN'T do is lower your helmet and spear him...and I guess you could get a different penalty as well...unnecessary roughness....for falling on a guy who is already down. NFL would be different because they can get back up, but even then if you watch them they're very careful to just touch the guy. I don't think Nate was targeting him in this case, it was just that they both went to the same spot. Still doesn't matter though because he put his head down instead of looking.
  21. Yeah, or you run 1 yard for first down and have 4 more plays....there's always that. The pass play was there. The blown call was third and 1 not just plowing Armstrong straight ahead behind center, where Iowa didn't have anybody lined up. Ran it off-tackle or whatever instead and got stuffed. Under ordinary circumstances it was there. Should've just run and took away any chance to make a bad decision.
  22. I learned Jano, didn't get one touch or one pass today. Not one....... Good one....not even on 4th and 1. Unbelievable.
  23. Yeah, or you run 1 yard for first down and have 4 more plays....there's always that.
