  1. I guess I don't understand the necessity of comments like this when we have one of the better B10 conference records since our arrival.
  2. Pelini has indicated Gregory has the potential to have a Suh type impact on the program. The great thing is we are more talented and deep across the entire defensive line now than we've been in many many years.
  3. He doesn't always say us.....how many times have you heard him say "I told those guys in the locker room......"?
  4. Thank you for your incredible insight.
  5. The bolded is extremely misinformed. Ironhorse makes excellent points about both Tressel and Pelini's contract.
  6. Will never forget. That was Suh's coming out party and when I personally started to notice that this freshman running back named "Rex" had a knack for picking up tough yards and always falling forward. Remember the power going out at the stadium? I'll also always remember in the fourth quarter as Missouri fans were piling out in droves, all the chants of "Go Big Red" that took over the stadium. Awesome night!
  7. You are correct and it's an indicator of Pelini's previous recruiting issues. We've got some young guys who are NFL caliber talent.
  8. I could care less about that audio tape......though there's a specific reason for Pelini's lack of appreciation for the Omaha media. Doesn't mean he's concerned about the media.
  9. I'm not sure Pelini is concerned about the Omaha media. He'd be no real stranger to the SEC media either as a high profile DC with a ring from his time there.
  10. Have Tressel and Frost ever even met one another? Coaches pick the OC, not have them assigned.
  11. Excellent points EZ-E. Pelini is often sold way short on this board due to agendas. Pelini is well known and respected in the coaching fraternity.....having spent time in both the NFL and college ranks under some of the best names in the game. Pelini's career would be just fine if something happened to his job here. I'm not sure what his buyout would be, but significant I think. Recruits continue to commit. There's really not any strong signs of Pelini going anywhere.......and many signs are seemingly quite the opposite.
  12. We continue to get recruiting commitments. That speaks volumes to me about what Pelini believes his status to be.
  13. agree, Bo does seem to possess real integrity.....just may not be the panacea we are looking for....... Pelini's integrity and loyalty is one of the reasons I don't believe he's as much on the proverbial hot seat as we are sometimes led to believe. I don't believe Pelini would mislead a single recruit about what he knows about next season. Pelini has his players' backs......past, present and future.
  14. I was critical of Beck's play calling after the Michigan State game. But in the days since I've read a few pieces that indicated Beck had a great game plan. As I look at it objectively, it's hard to argue the game plan wasn't good based on the production from Abdullah and Cross. I continue to become impressed with what our offensive line is doing.
  15. There could also be a reason Bo is a dick to him as well. We'll know 100% in a few weeks, but as of now, my money is on Bo being the head football coach at Nebraska next season. Right there with you on both these things.
  16. I think there are some that think this might be true......but I don't buy it. Our recruiting is still coming along well for this to be true from my perspective.
  17. Human beings make mistakes. Its how we learn from those mistakes that make us the people we are. It seems he is fixing the recruiting problems he had at the beginning of his tenure. Better now then never. Except, out of all of Bill Callahans faults, he got good guys. And he did it with crappier facilities than Bo has. Solich too. Callahan had a bigger fault.......he forgot to win ball games.
  18. What is your definition of quite a bit of trouble? If it's because ranking with the recruiting boards, that has as much to do with the current lower number of commitments.....which the staff has discussed being very strategic about.
  19. Yes, the next coach (if there was actually an opening) should be given just as much a shot as Pelini. Now, please tell me measurably what that equates to......and I'm not talking about the vaguery of "not getting blown out" or "playing hard" or whatever. Because Pelini has won 10 games in three different seasons and 9 games in his other two full seasons.....including playing in the conference championship game 3 of those 5 full seasons. So, what does it mean to give another coach "just as much of a shot" as Pelini?
  20. I'd go ahead and make it 40 years, 1962 - 2001. And our 2002 - 2013 "trough" hasn't been as deep or as long as other elite programs. Speaking of entitlement, you could take most of the comments here and they would have sounded familiar around the Husker water cooler between 1973 and 1981. Then again between 1984 and 1992. Or what a lot of us remember as the Glory Days, forgetting that the Big 8 was a convenient stomping ground as conferences go. As mentioned on other threads, I've been really unsatisfied with Bo Pelini's teams, the lack of focus, the inconsistency, the big game jitters. But something tells me to hold on for another season or two. There's some very likeable talent here, and having scorched a lot of earth there may be only one direction left for Bo Pelini. Could be fun. Excellent comments and insight about Osborne's tenure, the Big 8 Conference and the thought behind giving Pelini his shot with this insurgence of young talent.
  21. We have won 10 games 4 times since then. 3 times by Pelini, with the other time being in 2003 where the 10th win was by Pelini.
  22. A strong defensive line with NFL caliber talent is a good start. Feel free to pass this post along to tschu.
  23. Yep, you started your first two sentences referring to what we thought going into the season. I'm referring to what we are currently seeing on the field.....which are resulting from a dedicated focus on recruiting. You indicated you saw nothing from the past 3 years to hang your hat on......you can hang (or not hang) your hat wherever you like. I believe recruiting is one of the most important things and Pelini has done a great job in this important area.
  24. There definitely is. The vague answers to convey superior intellect are getting quite old, sir. Vague answers almost never convey superior intellect. Direct answers, however, do Is it remotely possible our talent level has not only consistently improved.....but possibly greatly improved.....in the past two years specifically? We currently have a certain defensive end who leads the conference in sacks and TFL. He's a sophomore. There's a guy on the other side who's not bad himself. Just two small examples of the "that" we can hang our hats on.
