  1. I agree. A juco CB doesnt make sense. An O-Line or LB target makes much more sense imo.
  2. Bray was ranked as the 25th best recruiter in the country.Link? i think i saw he was just 25th best recruiter in the pac-12.... Unless he was bringing in 4 star recruits, which wasn't the case, doesn't mean much. Fishing in a pond with big fish but only catching minows isnt what we need. The problem was he was fishing in the shallow end of the pond at Oregon St. We'll see what he can do in a deeper part at Nebraska.Problem is we have no history of that happening with him. All we can do is hope that's the case. As a Nebraska fan, im tired of just hoping we turn the corner. Id like assistant coaches/coordinators with a track record of success on the field and recruiting trail. The issue with the last staff was developing coaching and recruiting on the job. That needed to end with this staff. My enthusiasm for this coaching hire depends on if established guys are hired. There's still time, but I'm not holding my breath for it to happen.

  4. Trent Bray Hmm. I'm hoping that not many more of his former staff is brought over. Nebraska needs monster assistants. Ed O, Steele... etc. The old OSU staff isn't what I'm looking for.
  5. I'm curious what documents you're referring to and would like to see them when available. Same here. It seems pretty credible that two other candidates were reached out too. Does that mean both were offered? No. But saying he was the 'only choice' is probably incorrect.
  6. Assuming Morgan and Bussey stay, which seems to be the case so far, this coaching change has caused zero issues on the recruiting trail. I say that because Mirko, the OL decommit, was probably going to Ohio State anyway... He's got to hold the class together, find an LB or two, and we're in good shape.
  7. TA was put on notice tonight. Considering his lack of development in the passing game, he better be.
  8. Neither have I. In both cases, do you suppose there's a reason for it? In one case, it's because he was offered 3 times and turned it down. How about yours? He was offered by Bama 12 years ago. It's not like he's done much since then. The first post applies to all coaches who are unsuccessful and moving to a bigger program. The coaches you listed are the exception. There's a reason we don't talk about the boatload of coaches that aren't listed... I'll give the guy a chance, but I don't expect a change in the on field product. The media/fan relationship with the program will no doubt improve, but considering his lack of accomplishments, losing to FCS schools, and lack of success on the recruiting trail, I'll chalk this one up to an unlikely candidate to join the guys on your first post. If he manages to hire coordinators that help recruiting, then I'll be optimistic. For now, however, I'm not a fan of the hiring.
  9. If he implements a similar offense, it will certainly be better for Stanley and our other WRs.
  10. Or the several seasons of hope that are routinely dashed have sapped the fan base of whatever optimism they had left.
  11. This sounds like a very plausible scenario. He might be a nice guy and a decent coach, but I fear he does not have the cachet, splash, or salesmanship needed to bring the estranged players back into the fold and to draw the recruits back in. He is the saltine cracker of coaching hires. Exactly. If we open the season with a loss to BYU, the fanbase will be pretty rough on him.
  12. Unless he manages to do something magical that he hasn't done in 14 seasons, I won't hold my breath. We'll give him time to implement 'his' offense with 'his' recruits, but after 3 or 4 recruiting classes that rank in the 30's and no championship, he'll be fired.
  13. Every time a coach is hired, people find good things to say. I'm sure Michigan thought the same with Brady Hoke, Tennessee with their upteen coaches, Notre Dame with their coaches, etc. The reality is this guy has accomplished nothing. All you can say is he develops untalented football players into decent ones. He's never won anything of note. I feel comfortable saying that in 3-4 years he will be fired, along with our AD who hired him.
  14. Ill keep this mother going until the spring game. That's hilarious. The mere thought of JT coaching this team gets us excited. What will happen to this board if he's actually hired?
  15. He brings zero recruiting ties. We need somebody with his coaching ability but also with some decent recruiting ability. I'm looking at you Tress... That's the biggest issue I have with Bohl. He hasn't proven he can recruit as a HC.
  16. After watching a lot of good football tonight, particularly the Egg and Iron Bowls, I think we need to recognize that Nebraska not only has coaching issues but talent issues on the field. The QBs/LBs/WRs on those teams absolutely outclass Nebraska. We have to start pulling in top 15 classes on a yearly basis to really compete with the best teams in the country.

I agree, I don't think it's an issue of talent so much as an issue of development.

Development is an issue ... I agree. But for me, I think the both the blocking schemes and the defensive schemes are just too damn complicated. We would serve our players better if we had base blocking schemes that we excel at and run plays to those we block well for. Secondly, on the defensive side, simplify the schemes so our players have confidence and can truly use there speed. The Bo years have been full of "mechanical players" on D with only a few able to truly pick up the sc...

I think the talent is there but as many have echoed on here there is a development issue. If its bo or the cordinators i dont know. But our last 2 qbs havent evoked confidence at all when throwing the ball most of the time. And the ball control has been way suspect in Bos tenure as well. But honestly this is not news, it is apparent that there is a problem in these areas. 7 years this sh*t needs to be taken care of.

  17. The Big 10 West will never be good enough to push Nebraska out of a bowl game twice in a row. A 5-7 season is the absolute bottom, but that is difficult. The reality is this: Purdue, Northwestern and Illinois are bad teams and will likely be fringe bowl teams (at best) in a given decade. Iowa is always going to be slightly better, 7-5 or 9-3 on a good year, but an average team without athletes. We're currently watching the best Minnesota team in a very long time, but they're going to be a 7-5 type team most years with Kill as coach and usually worse when he's gone. Only on a truly terrible season can you lose 3 of those games. That leaves Wisconsin and the crossovers. Im of the opinion that most coaches would win 7 or 8 games a season minimum. It just doesn't take much to beat most teams in the conference.
  18. Sounds like pretty standard rumorville stuff. All any good college football story begins with a dude on a message board who is connect to an anonymous, powerful booster, willing to do anything for a change. I personally really doubt that this is the case. It would take a group of boosters, not just one, to assist with the change described. Furthermore, our athletic department does NOT rely on boosters as heavily as you make it seem. If they want to buy out his contract, they have the money to do so no questions asked. A booster willing to assist in the financial aspect is great, but I really don't think it plays that big of a role.
  19. Of course it's impossible to know for certain, but if we do change coaches this is the year to do it with such a small class. I personally get the feeling that the Davis twins, Decker, Jurkovic, Dillman, Lee and Anderson would stay. Even if the class 'implodes' and we finish with 10 commits or so, it's not terrible to the team considering we only lose 12 seniors. Next season, with a much larger class, a coaching change would have a much more negative impact. This is just all my opinion.
  20. It didn't get into that...I am hoping that is the case and we didn't get screwed because of a botched rule call. We got a very poor roughing call go our way right before that. They were just better than us today.
  21. That would be pretty wild, but I'm skeptical. Unless I see a visit reported somewhere, I won't get my hopes up.
  22. He nailed it it. "This is not even close to being a Top-10 program. If NU had played in the Big 12 or SEC or Pac-12 the past three seasons, there’s no way its record would be 27-10. The Big Ten has hidden Husker weaknesses and watered down Husker standards." Couldn't have been more correct.
  23. Right, I agree. It's just for many coaching changes the number #1 thing fans tend to worry about is the negative role it plays in recruiting. This cycle, I think, it would have the smallest impact possible.
