  1. The runner went right off that hold/tackle BS missed call! Can't leave this game in the refs hands.
  2. Just curious, why is Sevion's name not up at the top of page like Scott's? Did it already come and go? I thought the announcement of new recruits stayed there for about 2 weeks or so. Don't want him to feel left out!
  3. I believe anyone who truly believes in the 2nd amendment is concerned about violence committed by individuals using guns/firearms. You're a media guy, right? or maybe I'm thinking of someone else on this board.
  4. N 49 A 14 Akron scores 14 in second half, late 3rd/4th qtr, with Huskers 2nd/3rd string defense in.
  5. Barry Switzer agrees with Tom as far as the '82 and "83 teams go. In a Sports Illustrated article in '83 concerning wether or not the '83 team was the greatest college football team of all time he said he thought the '82 team was better but "they got ripped off by the zebras down at Penn St". Penn St went on to win the natty if ircc. As far as the '93 team goes that natl championship game had to be the most blatant, in your face rip off of a football game ever and Bowden knew it and that's why he called Tom and told him they were lucky to win that game. The worse part about it is, is that would have set us up for the first 3-peat in the modern era of college football and 4 out of 5 years as national champions. My brother remembers a Huskers football shirt he saw after the '97 season that said on the front "Our business is winning championships" and on the back it said "and business is good". It's way past time to get back to our business. I finally feel it's possible with Frost at the helm.
  6. So he's going to the Florida game to recruit those guys to Nebraska? Silent assassin That has been my thoughts on the situation haha.
  7. Never went to the Garlic Festival but used to visit some family friends over there every year for a number of years, grape farmers lol, and you knew when you were getting close to Gilroy because you could smell that garlic. Of course that's out of the San Joaquin Valley going to San Fran on the 101. Take the highway going over to Monterey on the coast from there and you will see acres of artichokes. Definitely a lot of farming/ranching going on in Cali. That will be one thing I will always miss, the fresh produce. Best strawberries anywhere are grown in and around the several central counties there in the San Joaquin, like eating candy. Can not eat them out of the grocery store, that goes for oranges also lol. Anyways, great commercial.
  8. With all of the stereotypes about California, it's easy to forget just how much of the state is farmland... Driving I-80 near Sacramento is much like driving through Nebraska. Flat land, corn fields, John Deere tractors & center-pivot irrigation as far as the eye can see. Grew up in the San Joaquin Valley from about 4 years old, bout an hour north of Bakersfield against the Sierra Nevadas. In different areas there is different crops almost as far as the eye can see, our area was orange belt country but there is all kinds of other stuff being grown in all them different areas along with a lot of ranching. There is a reason they call it the "Bread Basket of the world". Later years there was always a big corn maze somewhere for Halloween. Biggest AG show in the world in Tulare Ca., unless some other place has laid claim to that recently. Great place to grow up and live but I'm glad I'm not there any more. In Big Sky country now for the past 7 years.
  9. It is what it is "Mr. 3,957 posts", didn't know you had the comment/discussion market cornered. The recruits' thread popped up and I hadn't read it and decided to comment, which I rarely do. Been following my Huskers for 45+ years and reading this board for 7. The last 16 have been disappointing, some real disappointing and I feel we are seeing something special beginning to percolate with these new guys. Maybe nothing will come of it. Has nothing to do with the other guy or guys and everything to do with MR and company, the here and now. So I'm not really involved in your argument. Feel free to pass on by my comments.
  10. A refreshing change isn't it...We've always done it.Really? Bc I can't think of a single instance where Pelini and co went after a player of this caliber.Few examples just looking at top 10 prospects with NU offers according to 247:2015: Martez Ivey #2 overall prospect, Byron Cowart #3 overall prospect, Iman Marshall #4 overall prospect, CeCe Jefferson #7 overall prospect, Josh Sweat #9 overall prospect. 2014: Jabrill Peppers #3 overall prospect, Da'Shawn Hand #5 overall prospect, Adoree Jackson #7 overall prospect, Tony Brown #9 overall prospect, Kyle Allen #10 overall prospect. I could go on but don't find it necessary. Fair enough, I stand corrected. For whatever reason is does seem like there are a lot more high profile offers going out though. Idk why when thats not the case, as you just showed. The difference may be how hard we go after these highly rated recruits, i.e., selling the Nebraska experience, history, etc. You could offer every "top 100" player but is it just a token offer to say "look at the caliber of player we offered" without believing in your ability to land said players because of a personal negative view of your location, etc. Not saying that is the difference you are experiencing but......naahhh, that is what I'm saying. A lot more to say here but I'll just leave it at that.
  11. And not only that, but as we're seeing with the press in the national political arena, a free society needs a press corps that will ask the tough questions. The press is the the voice that questions and holds powerful people/leaders accountable and it doesn't matter if it is in the political or sports arena. Check in on this board almost daily for recruiting news this time of year but don't post much (as you can tell by my post count) but had to respond to your comment Chimi. A "free society" needs a "free press" and what we have had for quite awhile now is a corporate owned press, bought and paid for. Tough questions? Much if not most of our press has an agenda per their owners mandate and ask stupid, silly and superficial questions and answer their own questions with biased answers. Now I am all for getting a good education and I am sure they are very "educated" but don't confuse being educated with having intelligence, not that you can't have both. My dad used to say there are folks that are educated beyond their intelligence. I have lived long enough to experience this first hand over and over again. I am persuaded that this mindset is prevalent in both arenas but I don't mind those in the sports arena as long as they stay out of the other arena because it's purely entertainment for me. That is why I don't watch espn anymore except during the football season for the games and I don't miss it.
  12. In 2018 we will have an oline, if we don't have anyone leave early and no season ending injuries, consisting of 3 guys with a lot of experience and ability, Gates/Foster/Farmer. If just a couple of OL from the last two recruiting cycles, Farniok/Gaylord/Barnett/Brokop/Decker/Raridon step up we should be a lot better there. On the Dline the Davis twins will be going into their third year. I believe we will have experience at all levels with some playmakers on both sides of the ball. You never know how it's going to play out. Maybe the BIG10 should be looking out for us in 2018. Give the "coach on the hot seat" a rest. That is a sure way to send us into the abyss and actually become irrelevant. "oh consistency/continuity thou art a jewel". Still believe Riley will get it done. Don't go borrow trouble. We didn't get in this position over night and we will not get out of it over night.
  13. Sarell Holmes Lewis Shelvin Johnson Daniels Slade-Matautia
  14. 10 fewer run plays per game. I don't know how many times against tougher defenses we had good runs to the outside with Newby and then toss the ball around the next few plays. Langs never stuck with the run game except to run inside again and again when we did run, with very few outside runs and if it didn't get us 4/5+ yards we'd just start throwing the ball. Very little if any misdirection plays, screen plays seem to disappear (I know TA...blah,blah,blah and that's true) but we had had some good success earlier in the year with the screen and you are guaranteed to not have success if you are not calling the plays including sporadic run plays. Maybe I am misremembering and was going to go back and watch all the games except for Ohio St but after the Iowa game I just deleted them all. It may just boil down to the OC having absolutely no confidence in our offense being able to do anything he wanted to do consistently. Personally it's not that I don't like him, just some play calling left me scratching my head especially the 3rd and 1 to 3 yards where he seemed to want to pass more often than not. It's just a wait and see what happens next year for me. Folks can say whatever they want to say but Newby WAS NOT the problem!
  15. Well it's time for TA to step up and have the game of his career. Need OC to have exceptional play calling to his strengths. Time to hit some yard plays, stretch the field, and make plays. Win or lose leave it all on the field. GBR
  16. I always thought that bowl games were a problem because of the 5 weeks of practice speed compared to game speed, seemed like we were always a little off on executing the option for the early parts/first half in those games, would take us a little while to get rolling. I really believe that if we had played sooner we would have put up a few more wins thus a few more championships, especially in the early 80's bowls, specifically the 84 Orange Bowl against Miami.
  17. After the 97 championship someone came out with a Nebraska Football shirt that said on the front "Our business is winning championships" and on the back "And business is good" That pic reminds me of that shirt
  18. Tennessee coach Fulmer after 97 Orange Bowl (maybe not an exact quote) "We've never had our ass handed to us like we did tonight".
  19. I was going to sign in just to put this one in, you may be quoting someone else but I remember reading this in Sports Illustrated about the 94 natty game. Warren Sapp "Where you been Tommie" Tommie Frazier "you shouldn't ask me where I've been you should ask me where I'm going"
  20. This is why these games with NW are close, mistake after mistake.
  21. Domination in all 3 phases of the game. I know they have been mostly close games except for the one at NW but it has been because of our mistakes that has made it so. No mistakes, brain farts and we dominate.
  22. Yep, tv is all about selling audiences to corporations and their ads. The bigger the audience, the more ad profits.... Hence, spectacle, hence Trumpf. We do not have a "free press" anymore, it is a "corporate owned press" and it has been that way for some time and just because it is giving a lot of coverage to Trump does not mean it is for him rather by and large it is anti-Trump.
